Interesting article. I'm not sure if the coaches went too far though

Coaches like this are why some kids (Myself included) hate playing youth sports.

I understand the mental repercussions that could have - but it's funny as hell.

That is one f**ked up award. The coach should have much more sense then to embarass a player at banquet in front of all those people.

Don't judge the man until yo've been in his position. You are assuming the kid was weak. It could have been an inside joke that the parents didn't think was funny (which IS very possible) or taken out of context.

This kid is lucky he got a trophy. In real life, I like to give people the crybaby award by presenting them with a boot to the skull.

Just remember, Disparaging the boot is a bootable offense. It's one of our proudest traditions.

I could see giving a parent this award. Or giving a professional athlete this award. But a kid should not be given this award.

Then it's agreed, one carmel apple and one canided apple.

If this kid is 13 years old and is acting like a 5 year old, he deserves the award. If I was a coach, the kid who begged for playing time would be the LAST one off the bench. The kids who practice hard and keep their mouths shut are the ones who will get in first.

Booting?! Couldn't we just do like the old saying says and let our children run wild and free?

whats messed up about it is that the actual award had his name spelled wrong. i saw the interview of the parent. he said he was embarrassed because during the banquet when they awarded his son the award everybody laughted at HIM and his SON.

"special education teacher" means "helper of the retarded" and that my friends is what makes this story JimmieMac's LOCK of the Week.

It's kinda funny, but sucks for the kid at the same time. It should just make him work harder for next year.

I mean he is a special ed kid and trying harder probably is not the goal
It sickens me that he got to keep his teaching job. At least force him to transfer to another school

That coach deserved that 'You got fired, asshole!' award. Well not really, but I wanted to rip off Fark with that quote.

Was it a special ed team? or was the coach just a special ed teacher? I am so sick of these fucking liberal schools that try to teach kids its ok to be yourself, and every one will accecpt you for that. That kids needs to step up and be a man about it. He probably deserved that award.

From what the articles said, I think it was just that the coach was a special ed teacher in addition to being a coach, not that the kid was in special ed.
I think the coach was punished fairly for his actions. I agree with the decision that he shouldn't be fired but will not be allowed to coach anymore.

on PTI I believe they said he was a special ed student.
Wilbon said his dad should have went CAVEMAN on the coach
