My good friend down in FL has been bugging me for months, when are you going to get a PS2/XB so we can play together online... Im a PC gamer mostly with a GC to boot :)

Anyways was at gamestop yesterday looking at there used/refurbished PS2's. They mostly had the original PS2's with the Eithernet adapter and some without.. After waiting for over 30 mins for the guy to finally get to me :| I managed to ask a few questions, wiether or not did it matter of I got the slim or the normal one and I knew that the slim couldn't use the hard drive. He said you don't really need the hard drive but I told him I have read that RE:Outbreak loads a heck of a lot of faster with one then without ... other customers were in the store and then he just started to brush me off by helping a mom and her kids who were annoying him to "try out" some GBA games and he took a returned on a game that a customer came back with saying that his PS2 had the problem and wanted full refund on the game with recepit... after coming back to me we were also talking about that E3 dvd that came out and the only one he had was the store demo that has been running continuously.. I wanted that E3 dvd but since he was new he didn't know if he could sell the demo or not.. I didn't want to buy it for full price as 1, it was opened and two its been running for hours and hours for weeks. He said he'd get back to me by calling me but never did. Then he went off helping other customers and I just got annoyed because he was loosing a PS2 system sale.

Anyways I checked Ebay...watching auctions and no matter what with shipping it was basically the same price used as if I bought it in the store.

So basically what should I do, get the slim, normal, new or just wait for black friday and "hope" that there is a sale for it?

PS-I would like to fire up my old copy of Castlevania:SOTN for PS1...will this be a problem on the PS2?

I would get a used slim PS2, you cant use the hard drive, but you're not going to be using it most of the time. It comes with a built in network adapter so you wont have to buy one seperately. Also you know that it cant be too old since the slim version came out a little while ago. If you buy a used PS2 from Gamestop or Eb then it could the a launch version that will get DRE's very soon. PS1 games will work on the PS2, but you need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 files.

I agree. I never played Outbreak, but I would suffer the load times knowing that I got a used system that was less than a year old. The PStwo launched on October 26, 2004 with GTA: San Andreas. So the oldest it could be is from that date. Also, the network adaptor is built in as well as the remote IR port. If you do decide to get a remote you'll be able to power the system off with it. You cannot do that with the original style PS2s. Nothing is better than playing in bed and then just grabbing the remote when it's time to grab some sleep.

On a side note, SOTN runs perfectly on my PStwo.

There has been some rumor gonig around that the PStwo will drop to $99.99 when the 360 launches. If you can wait a few more months I'd wait to see if you can save yourself some money.

ooOOooo this news me like..yes waiting for it to drop to 99 would be acceptible. I really want to play that new castlevania game when it comes and I am also somewhat looking forward to the RE4 port to the PS2..currently playing the GC version. Hopefully blackfriday will be the day for the sale :)

Screw the Slim PS2! Get the regular one with the Network Adapter. With that you can get a 200Gb hard drive with HD Advance w/ fliptop and then load up your games on the HD and keepem nice and mint.
