I've got to work on a few windows machines, so I'm trying to locate software to make life a little bit easier. I'm only interested in free software (that can be installed freely on any number of machines) - none of those demo / trial / nagware / limited functionality / lite versions.
Here's what I'm looking for:
1. GUI FTP client
2. Macro utility
3. Dual/multiple pane file manager (I think the best file manager in the world is total commander ( http://www.totalcmd.com/ ) - but it's not free.
And just for fun
4. Which programs would I need to rip audio from a DVD chapter to an .mp3 or .ogg file?

Hmm, they do have two versions... I wonder what's that "License Reminder" and "Expire Notice" they mention in the feature list.
I'll install it and check.

SmartFTP
Agreed. It's the absolute best IMO since this other FTP went down (don't remember the name of it). There's also WSI FTP which isn't bad, but just not as good.

If you want a totally free gui FTP, try the plugin for Firefox, appropriately named FireFTP. It's pretty decent for what it can do and it's a nice plugin that works as a another tab in Firefox.

I think BeSweet can rip audio from DVD chapters. I can't remember for sure though.

FileAnt (http://www.dirfile.com/fileant.htm) looks like it could do #3. DirFile is a pretty good site, check out their Macro Listings (http://www.dirfile.com/freeware/macro.htm).

Bump for #4 as well. All I found were prog's you have to pay for in order to record more than 1-4 minutes (some short limit anyway)...

Filezilla! I think its a lot easier to use than SmartFTP. Can also host an FTP server from it too (have to download an extra file though if I recall correctly).

I'm seconding FileZilla, also for mp3 ripping maybe Easy CD Creator? You can always find "extended" versions of it around if ya look :D
