When you guys arrange your games on shelves, do you keep them strictly alphabetical or keep sequels together? For example:
Contra and Super Contra
Wizards and Warriors and Ironsword
Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari

Genre, then alphabetical (unless, as you note, sequels aren't sequentially named).

I put mine in order from oldest to newest (with the exception of sequels being put together with the original).
I should also note that this is done with a CD holder. I arrange my games separate from their cases.

My PS2 is set up on a rolling cart with 3 slide-out drawers. The top drawer is for whatever games I'm currently playing, as well as the next ones to go off the pile. There are probably 20-30 games in there.
The middle drawer is for games that haven't been played that aren't high priority (usually ones picked up for $5 or less that I wouldn't have bought otherwise), as well as games I'm done with but tell myself I might play again someday. Another 20-30 in there.
The bottom drawer is for the games I'm done with but have been to lazy to trade in. Also my never used Gameshark, an extra controller and a few of those $5 off PS2/PSP coupons from BB.
The games themselves aren't arranged in any special oder, and sequels aren't grouped with the original. It's a little odd, because I tend to be very anal about the way I arrange other things, like DVDs, books, CDs, etc.

WHY?
I just think the cases take up too much space, so I put them away elsewhere. And it's so much easier to flip through all the games in a CD booklet.

Visually, and by system.
My top shelf is all PS2, with "big box games" like FFXI and Syphon Filter on the left, and all GH's on the right. I also put sequels together.
I've thought about alphabetising, but I wouldn't want my GH's mixed in, and if I didn't mix them in then it would defeat the purpose.

Alphabetically, regardless of platform, but I seperate the games in DVD cases from the ones in CD cases and alphabetize them that way. It seems to piss off a few CAGs that I do it this way, which is funny to see.

Wow, lots of variety. I kind of assumed most people separated games by platform and then alphabetized them (I don't know why I assumed that, though).
I'm just torn between wanting to keep strict alphabetization and wanting to keep sequels together.

I like to keep them in piles. Since I'm typically playing 6 games or so at a time I find it useful to clump them together. I also have a seperate stack for classics I somtimes play and a seperate one for GH games because they look ugly.

Alphabetical by system...most series are the same alphabetically anyways: i.e.
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Yes I do put them out of order to keep them in the set of release for series.

i do them in Alphabetical by system. I don't put sequels together unless they share a title. example: tony hawk 3, tony hawk 4. But i don't put mark of kri, and rise of kasai next to each other.

Alphabetically by system, but I do sequels a bit different I guess. If they don't have a common name in the title, I won't put them together (like Rise of Kasai and Mark of Kri). If they do have a common name in the title I will (ex. Contra and Super Contra), but they don't have to be sequentially titled.

I have a big cardboard box I put them all in. I group the games by what I've finished, what I haven't played yet, and what I'm currently in the middle of. For some reason, I had never thought to organize alphabetically until I read this thread. I try not to get too anal about certain things or else it would drive me crazy.

I have shelves. I put them together by system and then alphabetically and the old games I don't care about and no one wants to buy at the bottom. the just random stuff games that I like or are current sports games. Then my top shelf is sealed games also new games that I bought used. Also I bought my favorite games on the top as well. I don't put sequels together.

Whenever I get around to finishing my basement, I'll be trying to orgainize them better. At the moment they're just in the bottom of the entertainment center. No real order other than grouping the Marios and the Sonics.
This thread reminds me of a few years ago when I got new shelving for my CDs. I drug them all into the family room and my wife offered to help me put them on the shelves.
My wife: 'OK, so alphabetically by artist, but within each artist do you want the albums alphabetically?"
Me: "for each artist I want the albums in order of release followed by any singles in order of their release, and then any bootlegs or oddities."
My wife: 'I think you better do it.'

I pretty much do the standard Alphabetical by platform deal.
I use one of those CD books for PlayStation and Dreamcast, because I was in college when I bought most of the games for those systems. The frequent travelling between school and home made the book much more practical than keeping them in the original cases. When I got PS2 I just mixed those games in with the PS1 games; those are the only platforms I mix due to the backward compatibility. Though I suppose I wouldn't mix if I used the original cases, because putting the CD cases and DVD cases together would look weird. I use the same book for Dreamcast games but I start in the back; I do this weird thing where I unfold the book vertically when I alphabetize so it actually works well.
I don't keep Game Cube games in the cases either. I got this weird flip-top GC game holder from GameStop that I use for those. I have the games alphabetized for the most part, with "extra" stuff stuck at the end (GameBoy player, MarioKart bonus disc, Action Replay, etc.) Oh and I put Zelda games under "Z." Putting them under "L" (for "Legend) felt weird to me for some reason.
XBOX is the first system where I've kept games in the cases. I have them all lined up on a shelf. I got XBOX pretty recently... I dunno maybe I've been feeling a CAG influence this time around ;-)
I don't really have any cartridges alphabetized. n64 carts are sort of organized into two rows, but I dont' really keep track.

by system, not alphabetical.
a lot of the stuff I've recently got, or haven't played yet is stacked in no particular order.

I seperate my games on three shelves... one shelf is games i've started but havent finished, anoth er shelf is games i haven't started or opened, and the other shelf is for games that i've completed. (thats only for current generation games all the games for older systems are seperated by platform.)

One self for PSOne games and Gameboy Advance, another for Gamecube and PS2.
All other console games are in my cabinet arranged alphabetically (SNES, Genesis, N64, GB).

I have my games in too many different areas, but I'll try to describe them. I put all of my current gen games on a dvd shelf, from top to bottom it's XBOX, GC, PS2, DC. I put them in order of my favoritesOn a shelf in my closet I have PSOne, Genesis, N64, and SNES. In a rolling cart I have my NES games and some loose N64 games. It's all kept neat though, whether or not it sounds like it.

i go by genre, and then converge from game to game in terms on how closely the games relate from one to another example: I have my fighting games lined up 2d, 3d, and then into semi fighters such as Onimusha Blade Warriors and War of the Monsters... which then from war of the monsters converges to twisted metal black, becuase it was made by the same developer as war of the monsters... then from there, car games... so on, tony hawk into my yanya caballista, which converges to my niche games... and so on... it's complicated, but orderly to me.

Alphabetical by system, then game title. Sequels don't go together. Katamari and We Love Katamari won't be right next to each other.

Alphabetical, all (current-gen) systems together. However, I put the top 25 most-likely-to-play games on a shelf closer to my consoles, and alphabetize them, too. All other consoles get their own shelf/order.
