try startup inspector for windows, it does a good job determining the good, the bad and optional

You can get a free trial of GLARYSOFT's REGISTRY REPAIR for 30 days at www.GLARYSOFT.com

I like that one a lot but for some reason it wouldn't le me stream WMV after I ran it...so I had to uninstall WMP10 & then reinstall it to get it to work again.

RegSeeker (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) & RegClean (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,4666,00.asp) are both good.

i use a variety of programs.

but of all, i use regcleaner a lot because it's fast and gives me many options to clean including the startup section and the shell extensions.
