Picked up by today's (8/22) CAG-O-Matic Price Tracker (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/videogames.html) listing.
EBgames.com has dropped the price of the NHL 06 console versions to $29.99. Clearly this is EA's response to 2K Sports' $19.99 sticker price for it's NHL 2k6 title. The PC version (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/go.php?http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=FKSJxY2VJAk&offerid=54879.257603&type=2) currently remains priced at $39.99.
While TechDepot.com (http://www.techdepot.com/search.asp?Operator=ALL&CONTEXT=SITE&Keyword=NHL+06) (owned by Office Depot) also reflects the $29.99 MSRP, GameStop.com (http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?sortby=default&searchtype=quicksearch&searchcount=12&keyword=NHL+06&platform=0)and other major retailers still have NHL 06 priced at $39.99 (which I believe was the release price of NHL '05).
With NHL 06 shipping on 9/13, I expect we will find the other retailers following EB's (and TechDepot's) lead soon.

won't happen...both the NHL and NBA agreed to not sell their licenses at least for a while...
btw.. NBA live is better than 2k5... 2k5 hockey is better than EA's NHL game... the 2k series is not that great...

Nobody cares enough about the NHL anymore to throw down money for exclusive rights.
Shit, imagine if someone did, and they decided to strike again... you'd be out a shitload of money.

so far both have gotten pretty decent reviews... mid-late 7s - 8s.. i think the highest was 2k6 getting like an 8.5 from Game Informer...

I'm gettin NHL 06 this year, I just didnt like the feel of 2k last year, and I like that EA is going back to what worked over 10 years ago...and at 29.99, I can justify purchasing it the first day.

I hate getting screwed over. I liked NFL 2k5 more than Madden and its gone. I liked MVP over MLB2k5 and its gone. :-(

I liked NHL 2005 much more then NHL 2K5. I will definately be picking this up. It's a shame that the Xbox version doesn't get NHL 94 though.

NHL 2K5 had great gameplay, but the game had too many damn glitches, the biggest one for me was the fact you couldn't go through a franchise without the game freezing. NHL 2005 had a great franchise mode, but you couldn't set up a play with the power checks all over the place.
Apparently NHL 06 will have more balanced gameplay, so that is getting the nod this year. People can EA hate all they want, but they can make a really good game.

Will NHL 94 have updated rosters like they did with Madden 2005 CE or will it just be a straight port?
Anyways, I'm going with NHL 06 this year. The new sniper stick sounds pretty cool.

It would most likely be updated as a lot of the players would be retired and they'd have to be given individual contracts to be able to be used in the game.
