Fashion mogul sues New York City mayor after permit for promotional Getting Up Bloc Party event is revoked.

The ongoing struggle (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/08/16/news_6131203.html) between Mark Ecko and the New York City government over the graffiti game Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure has reached the level of litigation. The fight over a graffiti party scheduled for this week in Manhattan heads to court Monday.

Last week, the city revoked a permit for a block party Wednesday in Chelsea because it is expected to include graffiti artists spray-painting models of subway cars.

Organizers of the party, including fashion designer Mark Ecko, claim that Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the city are violating their First Amendment rights.

Ecko is holding the party to celebrate the upcoming release of the video game he designed for Atari, "Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure." The game features characters who vandalize a city called New Radius with graffiti in defiance of a corrupt and tyrannical local government.

The mayor's office says the city isn't obligated to issue a permit for an event that "encourages the vandalism of subway cars in the name of selling T-shirts and video games."

A decision on the permit could come as soon as later today.

Fashion moguls shouldn't have the right to make video games or assemble on public property.

I'd say Atari/Ecko are probably secretly happy to get the extra pub this court drama will provide. If the block party had gone ahead as planned with no legal problems I doubt I would have heard anything about it.

I'd hate to be the person at Atari in charge of marketing this game.

I really do agree that getting that permit revoked is violation of Ecko's 1st admen.

You guys are being so unfair. What if the game turns out to be great? What if this guy can turn his very basic fashion sense into an aweso...

Oh forget it, I can't even keep up the lie. BWAAHAHHAHA.

This game is a worse idea than Fiddy Cent.

If this game turns out to be great, I will fly to New York and get Marc Ecko to autograph my Limited Collector's Edition (with the included Limited Edition Marker, of course). After I procure that, I should have no trouble wandering around New York and filling up my Limited Edition Black Book with all the ladies digits.

Every time I see this game mentioned, I think "Maybe, just maybe this will be fun!"

...then I realize I'm just wishing in vain for a Jet Set Radio 3, and this is definitely not going to be it.
