For personal use, Professional Single Edition and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.289 is best suited. I would recommend the Free Edition since it is, free, not a trial.

I personally use the free alternative AntiVir. It's minimal, it's updated daily, and it doesn't require many system resources.
