PlayStation 3: What if...?
Is Sony engaging in early damage control – or some incredibly savvy (and risky) marketing?

Game Over is a weekly column by Chris Morris (chris.morris@turner.com)

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft might have gotten suckered.

I was wondering the same thing. Even if their system is expensive, most companies aren't going to go around saying things like 'you need to work more hours'. Maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part though. With all the future proof technology that will be in there, it will be hard to keep it at $300, IMO.

I also found this
http://www.audioholics.com/ces/CEStechnology/PhilipsAllinOneOPU81BlurayDisc.php

It will read and write pretty much all formats:

* Dual Layer Blu-ray disc (50GB)
* Dual-layer DVD+/-R
* 16x DVD+/-R/RW
* 40-50x CD-R/RW

that is alot cheaper than I was expecting most of the early blu-ray players to be. Add to the fact that this is also a writer is a pretty good price.

I shook my PSP like a magic 8-ball, asking it if the PS3 would be cheap.

It said "Do you remember what you paid for me, bitch?"

I don't think Sony will come in with a low ball price. They want the best of everything in the console and that will cost them some money. Being the leader in consoles sold I think they could charge $400 and people wouldn't be too shocked. I think Microsoft's bigger problem is getting some games people really want to play. I don't see any reason to throw down $400 as it is right now.

Sounds like author of the article was smoking too much weed. He is clearly a MS hater that is just trying to muster up an interesting article. The theory is nice but Phony is known to be cheap asses that overpice their hardware.

Notes:
P.O.S II HDD?
PSP Value pack 250?

350 is my prediction.

Just more speculation, but I don't think with the impass with Toshiba and Sony over a DVD standard, we will see the PS3 for some time.

Unless, Sony says, "Fuck-You, Blu-ray, Bitches", which would segment the market. I doubt they want to repeat the Betamax lesson, though...

Thanks for craping the thread. :roll:

All I know is that I'm skipping the ps3 launch, if the prices will be that high. I'll just hold out with my collection (and various games that I have yet to purchase).

If they launch it with an FFVII remake, people will pay anything for it.

Off-topic: Speaking of FFVII, I should replay that someday.

still OT: I'm replaying it right now and I remember why I liked it so much the first time I played. the story is a lot better, now that I can pick up on all the little innuendos and have a better understanding of evil corporations and resistance groups :-) The game play is still great, but a remake is in order

Regardless of where the PS3 is priced.... $300-350-400-450-500 they've already acknowledged that a HDD is not going to be in the bundle. If the 360 and PS3 are both $299 for base models this argument is pointless.

I don't think there's any way Sony can lauch that hardware with a HDD at $299.99. That's what they'd have to do for MS's strategy to be a big fuck up.

I-8 and Killzone 2 are the only things that look interesting to me on known PS3 titles. I-8 though might be a system seller for me, I won't know until I see and play Huxley and Gears of War, I may be far too entertained to really "need" it. I'm not planning a PS3 at launch.

Just like this generation I see my order of purchases as MS, Nintendo and Sony. Hell, I waited until the $179 PS2. Don't think I'll wait two price drops this time out though.

Keeping it OT: If Square-enix releases a PS3 version of the game, I'll play it, no doubt. Will I get it a PS3 over it? Maybe, but not at launch.

If SquareEnix releases it on PS3 they will allso release it on the 360 and the Revolution. SE has made it clear that they are going Multiplatform next generation.

I am just clarifying because every PS3 topic I read it says "PS3 will have Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest what will 360 have?"

He's saying that they've always released their games on one console because there has always been one dominant console, but if the split is much more even, they could make games across multiple consoles because it would make good business sense.

Way to clarify. :roll:

Way to read into things.

So you believe PS3 will be dominant and SE will only have FF on PS3 :roll:

We can't read into the future but SE has said many times just not in that article but many they are going multiconsole.

BTW SNES was not dominat over the Genesis here in the states. Wada's point is that in Japan PS3 may be dominat but in Europe and NA could be a differnt story. SE is working on being more dominat in the US and Europe next gen.
