For any Zelda hardcore Fans out there:
http://dvdtoons.com/news/790
Shout! Factory and DIC Entertainment bring the complete animated series "The Legend Of Zelda" to DVD for the first time. The three-disc set includes all 13 episodes of the series spawned from the massively popular and influential 1980s Nintendo video game. The Legend Of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series captures the adventure, action and nostalgia of the game, and breathes life into its characters: Link, Princess Zelda and the evil wizard Ganon. Bonus features include two games, a downloadable character sketch gallery, selected original live-action segments from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" and more. The DVD release reinforces the continued popularity of Zelda properties and adds to the buzz of Nintendo's upcoming new Zelda game release, The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Legend Of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series will be in stores October 18th for $29.98 (suggested retail price).
"The Legend Of Zelda" animated series originally aired in 1989 in conjunction with the popularity of The Legend Of Zelda Nintendo gaming releases. The 17-minute segment aired on Friday afternoons as part of the weekly-daily broadcast of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" Each "Zelda" episode follows the adventures of Link as he bravely defends the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil wizard Ganon and tries to steal a kiss from Zelda. In addition to the complete series, the DVD boxed set features five of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" original live-action wraparounds, starring Captain Lou¬ Albano (Mario from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!"), Danny Wells and occasional celebrity guests such as Moon Zappa, Norman Fell and more. Other bonus material includes a Legend Of Zelda trivia quiz, a Legend Of Zelda match game and a downloadable character sketch gallery.

I'm not sure if this really "adds to the buzz" if it's being released half a year ahead of Twilight Princess.

They need to release the Adventures of Captain N....I always wanted his controller belt which gave him all these super powers...like PAUSE!....and I use to pretend to use the NES blaster like he did as well....my childhood was very impressionable.

One of my earliest childhood memories was watching the intro where they are falling from a castle and Link fires bolts from his sword into the water to break their fall - I recall he lands on a lilly pad and Zelda eats lakewater.
Zelda: "Thanks a lot hero."
Link: "Well excuuuuuuse me Princess."
And I'll never forget Gannon's nasal laugh too.

That show was RETARDED. I noticed this when I downloaded an episode where Link and Zelda were dry humping each other, and her dad was taken away by flying pigs. Then Link did 22 frontflips in the air and caught one of the pigs by its foot, and he fell from that far up in the air and landed on the ground, somehow killing all of them.
Why can't I do that in the games?

13 episodes on THREE discs?!
the article states that the episodes run 17 mins, this comes out to slightly over 3.5 hours..
you could SO easily fit that on 2 discs, and arguably, on one even.
its shit like this that pisses me off about dvd box sets, companies think they can charge more because they water down the number of discs? its total crap

Did you miss the part talking about all the extras? It's likely that the series could be on two discs and one disc for extras. Besides compressing everything into less discs = crappier quality for video and sound (btu that probably won't matter too much here). Anyhow according to Amazon the MSRP list price is $30, which is just about the standard MSRP for every new release DVD, they don't appear to be charging more due to the number of discs.

the extras (listed) dont amount to that much at all, the smb:ss skits are about ~5 mins each, so add 25 mins, bringing the total up to around 4 hours, now i can see them not wanting to cram 4 hours of video on 1 dvd because as you said, it might lose quality (depending on the condition of the source, if restoration is used, and how much they actully care about the transfer) but can you honestly say ~4 hours on 2 discs is alot to ask?
i own every lotr movie, which i think we all know are 3+ hrs each, and i have no qualms about the sound or video on these transfers (2 disc sets, not the 4 disc sets)
maybe the msrp is $30, but 3 disc sets rarely seem to drop as low as 2 disc sets with similar msrp's

Well there's also two games and apparently more extras which will no doubt take up a litte more space. I wouldn't say that all of it on two discs is too much, and I agree with you that sometimes a set is intentially watered down, but I don't believe that's the case here. THe MSRP is the same as even most barebones movie releases and the claim that 2 disc sets drop in price more than a 3 disc set is not totally accurate either (Samurai Jack Season 1 is 2 discs and I've never seen it cheaper than $22 anyplace despite it being out for over a year). DDD.com has it on pre-order right now for $18, whcih is cheaper than any of the cartoon network 2 disc sets they have and even if that where the case here, shouldn't be the retailers that are in the wrong? In tis situation I think the prices are pretty reasonable.

Jesus, shit like this gets released and there are still no Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Freakazoid DVD's.
I bought a cheap bootleg of Freakazoid a while back for 15 bucks. Shitty quality and a VHS caliber transfer, but ti was all the episodes. Some episodes have aged well, some not so well. There were a lot of jokes I would have never gotten as a child in it as well, such as references to David Lee Roth, Henry Kissinger etc.
I hate buying boots, but I don't have the means to get these any other way (at least, easily). The same deal goes for the Three Stooges (fucking Howard and Fine estates won't allow the release of a comprehensive collection) and a few other short lived shows (Police Squad, Brisco County etc).

So, do you think the nintendo article is BS? Do you think Nintendo is really behind schedule? After seeing the company operate over the past year, I believe that they are not ready to release it and had to make an excuse about "levels".
Saucy Jack
08-29-2005, 09:37 AM
Well, no one knows how many "levels" are in the game, so Nintendo could easily say, "We're adding new levels" and no one would know if they were telling the truth.
All I know is that the game should be, and better be, great with the delay. It should give them plenty of time to work on things.
