Ok, new DVD is on sale this week. 4 best of episode set. $9.99 at BBuy and CCity confirmed. Rumor has it that this is the "Tv Test" like with Family Guy (sales numbers will decide if it comes back to Fox Tv or just the DVD only movies) So, if you like the show and want to help, nows the cheapest time to buy!
Amazon link for those who miss the first week (still pretty cheap):

The episodes are all already released. Obviously this is to see if a more general audience would be interested in having futurama back.
The Season Sets sales are high enough that they already greenlit a new DVD movie. This "best of" is to gauge the more casual fans interest.
That said, its a good 4 episodes and well worth it if you dont want to drop $30-$40 per season * 4. A little futurama in the collection is better than none at all, especially when its four solid episodes.

I would buy it, but I already have all 4 seasons like any fan would. And yes, I am also waiting for them to bring this back. The Adult Swim reruns are the best thing on TV. Also, I heard rumors about a direct-to-DVD Futurama movie. Did that somehow turn into this thing?
EDIT: I don't know why The Sting is on there. It's good, but the other 3 episodes are freaking incredible. $9.99 is worth it just for Roswell that Ends Well.

Again guys, you are looking at this the wrong way. It is NOT intended for those who already have the box sets. OF COURSE those people want it back on tv. Those sales greenlit the movie. This is
A) To cash in even further on already done content
B) To gauge GENERAL INTEREST in the show.
There are a lot of people out there who'd pick up a $9.99 DVD before theyd throw down $30-$40 on a box set. Yes, in the long run if youre going to get it all its rather silly as all you get is a few bonuses but not everybody out there has/wants all FOUR DVD season sets.
This "Best of" is like any best of, mostly for the casual fan of something.

It really isn't that cheap $10 for 4 episodes ($2.50 an episode) or $25-$30 per season (about 20 episodes, $1.25-$1.50 per episode). Who would want just 4 episodes anyway?

*EDIT*
I don't think this is the viewer test DVD at all....as said before, PISS POOR attempt. I think the movie will be the true test of general interest in the show, not this sad attempt to cash in.
I will be purchasing that movie most definently, but not wasting $10 on 4 episodes I already have (I own all 4 seasons). And yes, I call myself a pretty big fan, not my favorite show of all time, but it definently shouldn't have been cancelled.

Here's the specific info that sparked the rumor of a Futurama movie. This is Billy West (the voice of so many Futurama characters...most notably Fry) on gotfuturama.com:
Well, I spoke to David X.Cohen because we did promos for a new Futurama compilation and he said that they did have talks with the top guys at FOX and they were extremely impressed with the sales of the Futurama DVDs. The idea was to make a Futurama movie right to DVD and then a 2nd and a 3rd. That's what's being discussed. Fox is trying to figure out a budget for the whole project, and it sounded like David X. was very jazzed!
I would love more than anything to do that show again. I thought it was best experience on every level... creatively, voice-wise, writing, animation and the laughs. The laughs. Writers and performers that respected each other.

Its like supersized fries or restaurant sized mayo. If you arent going to use it all, its still a bad value even if your per ounce cost is less.
Obviously, like any greatest hits CD this really isnt intented but for the hardest of the hardcore and those who have a passing interest in the show and would like to have something of it.
If you didnt want to spend a whole $35 for one season then this is an alternative. Since when the fuck was choice a bad thing?
And an fyi
Season 1= 13 episodes = $2.69 per
Season 2= 19 episodes = $1.84 per
Season 3= 22 episodes = $1.60 per
Season 4= 18 episodes = $1.94 per
For those who want lowest $ per episode.

Not worth it, I rented it from netflix to hear the new commentary track on the Hell is for Other Robots animatic and they didn't even include commentary tracks on the 4 episodes on the disc from the original season releases. Also, if this was meant as an introduction/aimed at the casual fans, why not include a 5th episode, the Pilot.
I'll most definitely purchase the movie when it is released on dvd, but I'm not going to blow $9.99 on a skimpy release like this with hardly any new special features.

IGN doesnt know their shit from their cereal.
Nothing has been confirmed. Matt Groening and David X. have been in talks for one, but nothing has been cemented yet. Not saying there isnt going to be one, there is about an 80% chance, but keep in mind, its not FOR SURE!
As you can tell, i love Futurama. <-----Avatar! I am still debating wether to buy this. I am almost positive i am going to, but i have all 4 seasons, so it just seems like a big waste for me. But i want to because this is one of Fox's tests to see how well futurama will do.
Looking at the sales of thier dvd sets, the series should have already been renewed, but for some reason the Fox exec's have some thing against Futurama, i guess they would rather play shows like; Nanny 911, So you think you can dance, and Trading Spouses. God Damn they are pathetic.

That's one of the things I love about Futurama, with the exception of a few episodes, the series ran just long enough that all 4 seasons are comedic gold. In addition, if I did not already have all 4 seasons I know multiple places nearby where i could get used Volumes for $17 to $20 each. And New boxsets can be had for $30 or less with free shipping online.
If people new to the series want to blow money on a skimpy collection which isn't nearly as cost-to-episode efficient as the season sets, I could care less, but there is absolutely no reason to buy this particular 4 episode collection if you own the season sets based solely on the new content on the release.

not sure if this has been posted here or in another Futurama thread but I just realized that there are some extras on this disc.
IMO, $10 is not really a great price for only four eps of Bender goodness.
The extras I know about are:
* Special introduction by series creator Matt Groening and executive producer David X. Cohen, joined by Futurama characters and crew
* Additional introductions for each episode
* Full-length animatic of Hell Is Other Robots featuring optional commentary Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, Claudia Katz, Rich Moore, John DiMaggio (voice of Bender), and Billy West (voice of Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, and more)
With that stuff on the disc.. the sale price seems a lot more in line to me.
*lights another candle on the Futurama shrine*

In the past 3 months, I rented all 4 seasons from the library (yes, you can rent DVDs, they're free, and you keep them for 3 weeks just like books). I had never sat and watched a full episode before renting them, and I loved every episode (Leela's secret past storyline was stretching it, though). After sitting through that many episodes in such a short amount of time, I'd say it ended at a good point. I never lost interest, but...
A fifth season? I'm not too sure of that. Wouldn't that take Futurama to the realm of The Simpsons and Dilbert (daily strip, not the cartoon). It seems everyone and their mom gave up on them after stretching them out for so long. I'd say a DVD movie to finalize the series is perfect at this point, as long as there's no more than 1 short song (only sung by Bender) and they don't all end up rotting in prison at the end...

Dr. Zoidberg: Now open your mouth and lets have a look at that brain.
[Fry opens his mouth]
Dr. Zoidberg: No, no, not that mouth.
Fry: I only have one.
Dr. Zoidberg: Really?

Dr. Zoidberg: Young lady, I am an expert on humans. Now pick a mouth, open it and say "brglgrglgrrr"!

Neutral Vice President: Your Neutralness, it's a beige alert.
Neutral President: If I don't survive, tell my wife "Hello."

Narrator: You are entering the realm which is unusual. Maybe it's magic or contains some kind of monster. The second one. Prepare to enter... The Scary Door. Please send a man 'round back and pick up Clyde Smith, a professional gambler who's about to have an unfortunate accident.
Clyde Smith: [Smith is run over by a car, then awakes in a casino. He plays the slot machine and wins] Ha-ha-ha! A casino where I'm winning? That car must've killed me. I must be in heaven!
[wins again]
Clyde Smith: A casino where I always win. That's boring. I must really be... in HELL!
Sebastian Cabot: No, Mr. Smith. You are not in heaven or hell. You are on an airplane!
[unrolls the curtains, revealing the airplane windows. A creature sits on the wing of the plane, ripping wires out of it]
Clyde Smith: There's a gremlin destroying the plane. You gotta believe me!
Sebastian Cabot: Why should I believe you? You're Hitler!
[Pulls out a mirror. Clyde's reflection indeed looks like Hitler]
Clyde Smith: No!
[turns to a woman sitting next to him]
Clyde Smith: Eva Braun! Help me!
[the woman pulls off a mask, revealing the head of a fly]
Clyde Smith: A-a-ah!
Bender: Saw it coming.

Fry: Listen, Bender, uh... where's your bathroom?
Bender: Bath-what?
Fry: Bathroom.
Bender: What room?
Fry: Bathroom.
Bender: What what?
Fry: Aaah, never mind.

Captain Zapp Brannigan: Don't blame yourself, Kif. We were doomed from the start. I guess all that remains now is for the captain to go down with the ship.
Lt. Kif Kroker: That's surprisingly noble of you, sir.
Captain Zapp Brannigan: No, it's noble of you, Kif. As of now, you're in command. Congratulations, Captain.

Bender has Doomsday bomb planted in him that detonates when he says a predetermined word]
Leela: We couldn't disarm the bomb so we reset the word that triggers it.
Amy Wong: It's from the list of words you almost NEVER say.
Bender: That's using your ass. So, what's the word?
Hermes Conrad: We think it better if you don't know.
Bender: Oooh come on. I'm not going to say it. Please? Oh! Is it "Please"?
Fry: Nope.
Bender: Hmm... words I never say. Oh I know: "Thanks!"
Leela: Bender, stop trying to destroy the world!
Bender: Wait, wait, wait, is it "Sorry"? No. "Funderfull"? Ehh..."Non-alcoholic"?
Amy Wong: Quit it!
Fry: Bender!
Hermes Conrad: Stop it mon!

"Roswell That Ends Well" won an Emmy and is the funniest thing ever. The best time travel episode ever, besides Oddessy 5.
Fry yells at his grandpa for looking at the guys in the calendar because he doesn't not want to exist. In the end through he is his own grandapa...
"I thought we weren't suppose to mess up the timeline?" -Fry
"Oh yes... a speech about the timeline coming from 'I'm my own grandpa'." - The Professer
That leads to a great storyline with the Brains.

Wow, those were some HUGE favorite "lines"...I felt like I watched those episodes all over again, thanks. There's a little comedy gold in almost every episode. The setup-dialogue is the best, but one-liners are harder to pull off without the surrounding context.
Best Taken-out-of-context quote from Bender:
"Call me old fashioned, but I like a dump to be as memorable as it is devastating." - Bender
It was funny when he said it, but he was talking about dumping a girl...out of context (as a standalone WAV/MP3 bite) it's comedy gold, since, well...we all know clever jokes about excrement satisfy on such a higher level than dating :)

$10 is definitely worth it, just for the new commentary tracks. Plus, I don't have the Sting on DVD, since Vol. 4 is still a bit too pricey new.
Commentary Track, as in singular FYI.

Anyone else played the video game? It's like a whole other episode, now if they had included all relevant video clips from the game on this release then it DEFINITELY would had been worth the $10.

oh the game is excellent if you are a fan of futurama.
although, i wish after the game instead of all the clips being unlocked.............all the clips were also put together to make the entire episode...........that would have been cool.

Basically the atmosphere and style are dead on, but the gameplay itself is kinda of mediocre and the game itself is kinda glitchy, especially when in the menus. There are some great quotes in the game as well.
