View Full Version : Why do websites get redesign crazy?

I dunno I must be getting old but I hate go to my favorite sites and seeing that they are redesigned. I like knowing right where to find what I need. is it really worth it just to use some of the newest tech tools? I also hate when magazines do this as well like EGM and GI lately

Let me guess. You went to GameFAQ's today, right?

to keep things fresh. yes, sometimes it backfires (IMO, IGN at the moment) but most of the time it helps . Of course, there are certain magazines (wizard, egm..) that decide to move the logo to a different corner and cal it a redesign every 5 months.

i call it annoying.

Who hasn't?

I think it's hideous, personally...but according to CJayC, there are going to be "classic" stylesheets. All of that white hurts my eyes...

I never really appreciated the CAG color schemes (especially the green one) until today. Thank you, CheapyD, for not attempting to blind us with your website. :D

oh, note the fact E3 is coming up. No better time to make a change than right before new readership.

Gamefaqs site now officially sucks. It is god damn near unreadable. Ceej (the webmaster) is a god damn idiot.

I dunno...all those faqs are still in ASCII (unless you count the oddball PDF). That's about all that's worth going there for.

Why else does one go there?

:imwithst: Change is good. In 3 months you will forget how the old style looked.

urg... gamefaqs layout does suck now.

I don't know if this was too recent, but they changed around bungie.net within the last couple of weeks (I haven't been there in a while, so I'm not sure when)... I don't care for it.

Not if it continues to be what it is right now. This morning it was simply annoying, now it's freaking Gamespot. It's not even GameFAQs forums anymore.

What will have to my 1750 karma?

Nothing has changed except for the fact that Gamespot forums have merged with the GameFAQs forums. You can differentiate users from either forum by the little "gs" or "gf" notation after a persons username.

Other than that, what is there to complain about? Obviously, there are some quirks that need to be fixed, and you can have your classic skin in a few. Be patient.

Bye.

Personally I feel the new layout for GameFAQs blows. Thats not including the whole GameSpot factor. GameSpot users can have pics in their profiles as well as edit messages. Although the pic thing doesn't bother me, it's the editing feature. Let me explain.
*GS user makes a post titled "How Long Have You Played (Insert Game Name Here)" or something to that degree.*
*Someone replies saying 2 years.*
*GS topic poster edits post to a new title of "How old are you?"*
*Replier gets banned*

A few other bad kinks need to be worked out.

Isn't it wierd that when you learn a new word or notice something new, it plays a little role in your life in a couple of days? I went here today, I had not been for about two months, I got stuck on Blood Omen 2. I too noticed ther layout and I too thought it sucked.

I would personally laugh my ass off if a mod is stupid enough to think a two-year-old could post on a forum.

Most web sites get an increase in traffic every time there is a site redesign. New site design = more hits.

Even if the design sucks it will draw more hits.

People have been banned for joking about it before...

That's true. One guy on LUE got banned for posting saying he was a -4 month old fetus.

It does kind of bite having to adapt to the changes. But the learning curve is usually quick and relatively painless. I've noticed that some websites (not gaming sites) actually provide a link to view the site in their old format. I think that is a pretty good idea. A poll option to the effect of how do you like our new look or something along those lines is another idea these sites could implement even as gesture that they have concern for the people that use their site. Sometimes having a viable way to state your opinion eases the pain of what you might consider a bad change with something. It's harder to accept change when it's being force fed to you and your opinion goes unheard.

I'm noticing the older I get the less tolerable I am to change. Im hoping baldness holds off for a few more years
