I'm afraid the stylus is going to hurt the screen if used too much.
By the way, here are my current games:
Polarium - $15 at Fry's
Zoo Keeper - $10 at K-mart
Feel the Magic - $15 at K-mart
Super Mario 64 - free with system
Yoshi's touch and go - $20 from ledhed
Sprung - considering getting from k-mart for $10 the next time they have a sale.
Meteos / Kirby / Wario / Pac-Pix - from you! check my trade list or sell it to me for a good price.
I think with nintendogs I'll wait for the holiday edition because it might have extras, even though guys with nintendogs get all the chicks. my priorities are all messed up.

Man, I just got my DS tonight and couldn't find any Mario bundles anywhere in Riverside. No electric blue systems either, only Titanium. But hey, I've got my Nintendogs. :) I'm soooo tempted to buy Kirby: Canvas Curse, Mario 64, Meteos, and Ysohi Touch N Go, but I think my fiance would be pissed if I spent the money for the downpayment on our apartment on video games. Shit, she'd probably freak if she knew I dropped $170 after tax on the DS and Nintendogs... at least until she would see how cute my German shepherd puppy is. :)

Well, it won't do you any good but the wal-mart in grossmont center (la mesa) has at least 4 blue+mario bundles. just in case anybody cares. The one in El Cajon only had one which was gone the first day of the price drop.
Tell you what: if you can find me an extra of those fiance things, I'll trade you for any DS game, brand new.

I bought the pelican ones from Best Buy. The bottom screen protector gives a grainy feel to the screen, similarly to the screen protector pelican makes for the PSP. The top screen protector is completely clear but since the only adhesive is on the edges, there's an airpocket over the rest of the screen. The problem with that is that the screen protector will stick down (because of static cling) in certain areas and not in other which leaves these annoying areas where it looks different on the screen. ITs difficult to explain precisely but I ended up pulling the top screen protector off and am just using the bottom one. Sure it leaves a grainy effect on the bottom screen but at least I don't have to worry about scratching the screen.

I plan on cutting up a Hori PSP one because I couldn't find anythign comparable for the DS. They run about $4.99 and I've only found them at a local store and at one EB.

They do sell a Hori one for the DS.
I bought some palm pilot screen protectors and chopped them down to size. They worked ok, but the screen protector itself was getting some pretty bad scratches after a while that seemed to ruin the touch screen sensitivity. I got sick of making new protectors, so I ordered a Hori one from EB. I'll let ya know how it is when it gets here.

I also checked out my stylus and noticed a bit of flashing..
i used 600 grit sandpaper and smoothed it out. It took like 5-10 seconds and it made a big difference in the smoothness of teh official stylus.
I have a pelican one also on one of my DS botoms screens. It works fine no loss what so ever. I may pick up a hori one if I can find it locally.
Report back here on how they are..

I didn't waste my time on a protector. I didn't see any excess plastic on the stylus, and I figure it's a game system, and will get screwed up. Besides, Nintendo's products aremade to last.

You've all forgotten that Nintendo Products can go through Hell before falling apart.

that's not true, the previous owner of my $15 SP saw his dog try to chew it in half. It has bite marks all over it and serious dents in the plastic where the doberman really got into it.
actually that is true, because it really does still work fine, save for the mangled R button.

The three most recommended screen protectors are the Hori version, www.nushield.com and plain old vinyl from Wal-Mart. I would stay away from Intec and Pelican because a lot of people have complained about the adhesive they use. It's very difficult to impossible to get it off if you take the screen off for any reason (dust, etc.)
I ended up with the Nushield protector since it doesn't use adhesives, I believe that the Hori is good too, but haven't used it. The Nushield is a 1 minute install and simply slides under the edges of the lower screen and "floats" on top of the screen. It works really well and is very transparent. If you screw up installing it and get dust under the screen, just squeeze the screen a little to remove it. DO NOT USE tape like the instructions suggest. Tape leaves adhesive on the protector and you have to use eyeglass cleaner and scrub to remove it.

The Hori one for the PSP doesn't use an adhesive. Or maybe it does but you can take it on and off without not problems. It more like a super static kling. But any who my Hori one should arrive on Monday and I'll tell you guys how it is then.

I don't really see a point in getting a screen protector. I think you'd have to purposely try and ruin your screen to get it to scratch/malfunction, unless you are praystation and manage to get scratches on your screen in less than an hours worth of use (while playing the DS's killer app, Ridge Racer).

The Pelican one for the touch screen is cling as well. The one for the top screen is adhesive. Toss that one.

i must be really "rough" on my DS if im the only one who gets scratches on the screen. When the system is on, you can't see them but when you turn it off and put it at an angle to the light, there are scratches, mostly up and down scratches (curse you Meteos)...
maybe it's because I've probably put in over 100 hours of gameplay into my DS. but its my belief that people who don't get scratches either A) dont play the DS much or B) are lying.
Not that I'm calling anyone a liar though... i am actually pretty gentle with the DS too... =/

I have the Hori one for my DS and it's great. I went for Hori since their SP screen protector worked well. When the system is on, you won't even notice that it's there.

I have the Hori screen protectors as well. They work really well as long as you're good at applying them (I have an air bubble that's obnoxious and won't go away, but too frustrated to deal with it). They sell them at EB for $7 for protectors for both screens and come with a screen wiping cloth.

at least someone is with me here. generally, if you say your DS screen is scratched (not on these boards), people will reply with comments saying 5 year olds shouldnt own a DS... or to stop using your car keys as a stylus... or... stranger comments...

I have had my DS since launch day and have put over 150 hours into playing almost all stylus based games (Kirby, Wario Ware, FTM, Meteos etc.) and not a single scratch anywhere on the system. There have been times where the bottom screen appeared to have very fine scratches but some alcohol and a lens cleaning cloth revealed them to be nothing.
The ones who are lying are the ones whose screens get scratched. Either they haven't tried cleaning them or they are don't know how to use and care for electronic devices.
As for the top screen, for the price of a good protector you can by an entirely new screen directly from Nintendo.
Nintendo DS Screen Cover $3.95 (http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1¤cy=USD&ignoreCrumbs=N&crumb1=&crumb1Ignore=&crumb2=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527X%2527%252C%2B%2527ChooseView%2527%252C %2527%2527%252C%2B%2527%2527%2529%253B%2522%253ENi ntendo%2BDS%253C%252FA%253E&crumb2Ignore=&crumb3=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527C%2527%252C%2B%2527CategoryDisplay%2527 %252C%252758694%2527%252C%2B%2527N%2527%2529%253B% 2522%253EParts%2B%2526%2BAccessories%253C%252FA%25 3E&crumb3Ignore=&translateFrom=%C8%C9%C7&translateTo=EEC&usrSearchText=&searchText=&selSrchType=&page=&view=&productId=83650&categoryId=58694&lastAction=ProductDisplay&orderTotal=null)
Even comes with the tool to replace it. Not worth buying screen protectors for the DS in my opinion.
---------------------------------------
Edit: The times I have actually seen the DS get scratched was from people using a third party stylus, such as the Pelican or Mad Catz ones. Stay with the first party stylus and you should have no worries.

Whether or not the screens are easy to scratch, I figure by buying the screen protectors I'm paying for the comfort of knowing that I can play without worrying about damage to the screen. Being incredibly paranoid, hearing everyone's testimonials about how their own touch screens are scratch free after a bazillion hours of play doesn't make me feel any better about my own screen. It's not like I mistreat my stuff or anything; I just feel a lot better having the screen protectors.

I have one of these for both of my DSs and they work perfect. Hori protectors are hands down the best.

You can also get those at EB. They have identical packaging, except everything is in English.
Here's the EB link so you can find stores near you that have them:
