I just picked up Nocturne and won't start it until I beat Grandia II (dreamcast version). I watched the intros and started the very beginning, but stopped. I need an extra week off before school starts again, dammit.

Anyway, rate these two games on a scale and tell which game you like better. Just wanted to see how people liked both games since they are both from the Megami Tensei series.

I have yet to beat either, and haven't played Persona 2 in like 5 years. I don't own it anymore either. But I enjoyed Persona 2's game world, music and characters better. Since I had a pirated version (and thus no manual), I couldn't understand the battle system very well (you make special spell combos by lining up your characters attacks in certain orders, or something). I will eventually pick up Persona 2 though, now that it's more available.

So after ~40 or more hours of play time with both:
Nocturne: 8/10
Persona 2: 8.5/10

Both are hard shit. But Persona 2 had an amazing atmosphere.

I personally enjoyed Persona 2 more than Nocturne. I like the modern day RPG theme alot.

I've played both, and I'm favoring Persona 2 more... it's just my preference though... I like the setting/mood of Persona 2... more modern day enviroments...

Wow, I didn't expect everyone to like Persona 2 more than Nocturne. So far, I like Nocturne more. Just because of simple things, like the battle system being very fast (Suikoden I/II fast), because you don't have to equip weapons or armor, because of the nice anime-style graphics, because of the music, and maybe some other stuff.

I'm only three hours into Nocturne though, so I can't really make a fair judgement yet. I've gotten near the end of Persona 2, but discontinued it because I got tired of it. Strangely, Persona 2 is the only game I've ever played completely with a guide (gamefaqs). Usually I play the game all the way through, and then play with a guide the second time around. Anyway, I'm drunk, so sorry if it seems like I'm yaking shit out my mouth.

Persona 2, without a guide, you can really get stuck... I know firsthand from when I first played it the day it came out...

That sucked for the first few weeks lol.

If you like either of these you should get DDS....
I grew tired of Nocturne pretty fast, but DDS is basically the same game with a real story (cutscenes and everything) minus the demon collecting. It's so fun.

They still never brought over Persona Innocent Sin. Eventhough I already have it and can understand it, it would be cool if they brought it over in a Persona collection set or something.

So does the US Persona 2 actually have a conclusion (that's comprehensible)? Is Innocent Sin supposed to come before Persona 2, or after? I always wondered if it was even worth playing through Persona 2 if a lot was left for Innocent Sin...

Of course I would have enjoyed playing Innocent Sin, but even without it, the U.S. Persona 2 can be played without worrying about missing anything. Persona 2: Eteranal Punishment has flashbacks to Innocent Sin (which was before Persona 2) and will explain the storyline of it throughout the game. Plus if you played Persona 1 you'll have more fun, due to cameos of previous characters, but it's not crucial.

The game contains some very hard boss battles, it's not a push over like Final Fantasy. I know alot of people that started playing it then got stuck at a boss battle (sometimes even the first boss.) If you've never played a MegaTen or Persona game, it might be difficult to understand.
