The Burnout: Revenge price conspiracy

So this is very interesting. I've been contemplating preordering Burnout Revenge for a few weeks because I KNOW it will be in high demand. Early on in the run, the game was priced at $39.99. I thought that that was a :hot: deal.. $10 less and nearly 5x more fun than Burnout 3, can't be beat.. imagine my suprise when the price went up to $49.99!

Now normally this wouldn't be an issue. Game preorder prices raise and drop all the time. However, in nearly every single platinum hit and greatest hit copy of Burnout 3, there is an advertisement insert for Burnout Revenge, and on it, it clearly states $39.99. Here's where the issue comes in. That's a national, HUGE advertisement for $39.99. If they were to change the price, couldn't they get in some huge amount of trouble?

Anyway, onward to the point that I am trying to make: After a long discussion and a call to corporate headquarters, using the insert, I was able to preorder Burnout: Revenge for $39.99.

Cliffnotes for this post: If you're going to preorder Burnout Revenge, find a gutted copy of the GH or PH copy of Burnout 3, grab the Burnout: Revenge advertisement, and demand it for $39.99.

Well, if they're gonna raise the price $10 I say fuck em and buyin' it on release day. I'll just wait till somewhere has it on sale then. I think the reason it was only $40 to begin with is because they were worried about their own competition from Burnout 3. I mean seriously, there's so much to that game that there doesn't seem like a point in buying a new version already. I'll just keep playing 3 until Revenge has a decent sale price.

whatever . . . I'm a CAG! . . . I'll get Revenge next summer for $15 . . . in the meantime, I'm waiting to MC3 for $15 (or less). I'll rent Revenge with a BB coupon after release to play for 10 days.

Plus, I have a ton of games I haven't played yet ($10 Scrapland coming . . .)

Xbox 360? maybe in 07 after a price cut and when some cheapass games are available.

I can relate . . . some games are like that . . . I moved over one of my Ndog preorders to We Love Katamari . . . can't see waiting on it. And like Burnout, the first game was $20 and now they want $30 . . .

I actually think that Urban Asphault GT is a descent Burnout ripoff in terms ofGraphics and Gameplay. I am sure that Burnout Legends can be awesome on the DS. Single cart multiplayer.

Certain games just require the best graphics possible. Seriously, half the appeal of Burnout is just how damn cool the crashes look. Put it on DS and your taking away a good 50% of the fun of burnout.

Well, I guess this a rental then. Burnout 3 was a fun game but it wasn't worth the $45 I paid for it the week it came out.

While there's no repercussions except poor PR for this price raise, I am curious as to why they did it.
