View Full Version : The Obligatory Stanley Cup question:

Since all of the conference finals have been decided, and since there's a Flyers fan as the head cheap-ass, some disgruntled Red Wings fans, and at least one San Jose Sharks fan around, the question is, where's the cup going to end up?
I say it's coming to San Jose, with the exception of games 4 and 5 of the last series, they have played as a team, and have done it well. Nabokov has been outstanding in net, and tonight's series winner has some momentum building.

Keep in mind that I don't watch hockey at all, but having said that I will pick Tampa. I think it would be amusing for a recent expansion team in a state that rarely sees ice to win it all.

I'd like to see the Lighting win it. I'm not too big of a hockey fan, but I do know that for a while they were the laughing stock of the league, if memory serves me correctly. This could possibly be the last hockey people will see for a while if the current situation isn't resolved.

I don't watch hockey either, but I remember back when I was a kid I was a Sharks fan because I liked their logo and jerseys. Yeah that's pretty pathetic :)

i know this is off topic, but when was the last time the nfl has had a lock out. i know mlb and the nba had lock outs in the 90s and i was just curious about when the last nfl lock out was, if there was one.

well having lived in calgary previously for well over 10 years, i'm gonna have to go with them. even though i know the chances of them winning are slim; i just have to go with my old team.

Sharks all the way man!!! We had the toughest competition in the second round and handled the Av's, about to plow through old coach Sutter's Flames. And then you just can't have a Stanley Cup champion in a place that rarely ever is cold (and yes, I consider the Bay Area colder than Florida). And we got Nabokov. 'Nuff said.

I'd gotta stick with my local Sharks :)
they been a good team all year long, and the pre-previous season where they were eliminated.

Calgary...they are riding too much momentum eapexially after knockin off my Wings. Lombardi,Leopold, and inginla are way too much for teams to underestimate and Kipprusoff is riding abetter hot streak than Gigeure or Nabokov is having..

sometime in the 80s there was as strike shortened season. i think it was 1987. i just know cause every time they mention something about records on sportscenter or anywhere they talk about excluding the strike shortened season. if it happens wont this be the 2nd lock out in like a decade for the NHL? it will be interesting to see how many teams are around following the aftermath.

a san jose/tampa bay final would be absurd. too bad it looks like it could happen.
Unfortunately, that seems to be what's going to happen...
At this point, I don't care. I wanted Detroit to win. I wanted Toronto to win. I wanted Montreal to win. By the end of the San Jose series, I even wanted to see Colorado win, just so we couldn't have that San Jose / Tampa final.
They're all out of the playoffs now.
So...I give up. I don't know how much hockey I'll be watching for the rest of this season; all that I know is that it won't be nearly as much as it would have been if the Wings (or Leafs) were still in it... :?

So long as Calgary loses, you mean.
They'll lose no matter who they play, I'm sure.

Even though i really do mean **** Calgery... I want them to win. I want Canada to have a winning hockey team. also, i went through Calgery on my way to "The Worlds Largest Mall" (yes, bigger than the mall of America) and it seemed like a nice place.
Oh, and as far as Tampa is concerned...Just think of the resemblence to the movi Cool Runnings. Any Hockey Team who plays for a state that cant sustain ice should drown.

I cannot stand Philly, and Roenick is up there with Brett Hull with players I dispise. I'd like to see Calgary take it, but I wouldn't mind seeing Jonathan Cheechoo's name on the cup.

well now that my 2 teams are out (Sens and Wings), I'm gonna post my predictions about the final 2 series of the Playoffs. post your predictions if you want.
Eastern Conference Finals- Tampa Bay Vs. Philly
Personally. I think that Tampa is gonna win. I mean don't get me wrong, both teams are great, but to me, Tampa Bay has the better goaltending in Nikolai Khabibulan(SP?), and Martin St.-Louis is a great player, plus i dont know if Sami Kapanen of the Flyers is gonna be able to play after that HUGE hit last night in OT. Plus in their season series, Tampa went 4-0 against the Flyers, so my pick is Tampa Bay.
Tampa 4, Philly 2
Western Conference- Calgary Vs. San Jose
I am adamantly behind the Sharks in this one. I hate the Flames, always have, always will(always used to beat my ass on NHL 94 lol). Plus they fucked the Red Wings(we got SOOO many penaltys for bullshit, but they get NOTHING). I think this ones gonna go to 7 though.
Sanjose 4, Philly 3
Stanley Cup Finals- San Jose vs. Tampa Bay
oooh boy this is gonna be a hard one to predict. both teams have an equal chance of winning, but just cause ive been a fan for years, im going to pick Tampa to win this series. I Hope this series goes to 7, and it is a classic Championship series.
and i didnt realize there were so many disgruntled Wings fans here. but i say FUCK CALGARY!

hey dude the Pistons are gonna win it this year. I couldnt believre that ganme were we set the record for the lowest total points in the first half. that was just bad.
and the Lions are gonna do better this year. As will the Tigers. they may have slipped under .500 for the first time this year, but goddamn they are on a tear(except against the Angels lol wow we get our ass kicked by them).

05-05-2004, 03:39 PM
too add to that the lions had the best draft this year and the tigers will atleast be better than last season......
As in the past years it has always been the more hungrier team...and after watching all 6 games of the flames-wings series...I havent seen anyone more hungrier than the flames...If you can make Mikka Kipprusoff that good...than your doing something right..Also just remeber if Calgart and San Jose go OT...San Jose has no chance..No OT goals in the last 7 OT appearance than meant 0-7 in overtimes. I just can wait to see Martin Gelinas pop in another ez rebound to end the series...

I want it to be the Sharks and Flyers because that way I will be less upset if the Sharks lose and because for the second straight year we can have opposing brothers in the finals.

too bad...
Sharks just lost 3-1, series lost 4-2.
So now its Flames vs [winner of] Lightning/Flyers.
Now I'm picking Philly as my #1 seed.

I want to see an eternal draw...... I don't want Calgary to win, since they beat the Sharks, I don't want Tampa Bay to win because they entered the NHL after the Sharks, and I just don't want to see Philly win either, so an eternal overtime till the begining of next season would be the best outcome.
Doylerulez
05-21-2004, 01:34 PM
Eternal overtime, that would be interesting. Anyway, other unlikely scenerios:
Kiprusoff is found to be receiving steroids from BALCO, so Calgary is DQed for cheating, San Jose takes their place as the runner up.
Instead of letting a Canadian team play for the cup, the NHL enters it's lockout before the finals start.
Keith Primeau pulls a Donvan Mcnabb and does not register an assist but has 3 passes intercepted and converted into goals. Philadelphia cries about never getting passed the semis again. Actually possible.
If Calgary does win though, I'd be scared of what might happen. flamesgirls.com shows how crazy their women got after they beat San Jose. (warning, not appropriate for younger viewers or at work, hence no direct link)
