The game itself looks pretty sweet though, but I hope they balance it a little more this time.

Yeah, DOA shouldn't be too hard to refresh in. I played a lot of it over the years just not in a really competitive setting. Usually just against my sister or a few other friends of mine.

Sometimes when I go back to playing a fighting game, I'm actually better than before because I don't think as much. after about 20 matches this goes away ;-)

Can anyone get this to work with a gamepad? My character stays crouched even though I re-calibrated my controller.

Aha! I see what was wrong with my other pad. I had to change the controller ID from 2 to 1 in the Gaming Options area in the Control Panel. That's good because it is a much better pad than my USB one.

is SFIII: 3rd strike, i usually play as hugo, remy, or makoto. i've tried playing with Q a few times, but he doesn't hold my interest much. maybe I should give him another chance.

hugo really sucks though. his large size realy makes it difficult to jump over projectiles. and his HK is pretty much worthless to me. but he's got a 360 throw, and that's why i use him.

makoto i haven't tinkered around with much but i love her rushing punch. i usually alternate that with a few low attacks and mix in the command throw and i'm set... damn i need some real strategy with this game. :(

Hugo is effective up close, not far away. Parring is okay, but you can't gain any ground if you parry projectiles all day long.

Do alot of people play that online still? Seems like the only people that play older titles online only care about their stats. Nobody plays SVC Chaos online anymore (and why should they) except a couple cheeze balls who exploit Shin Akuma. I hate playing these people, It's like they'll kill their own mother just to win a single game.

Alot of people would argue that it's not cheating since it's in the game so anyone could do cheap moves. That's true but unlike online choads, I play for fun, not for stats. Picking Shin Akuma everytime isn't fun for me. It's fun to mix it up.

kof chapter 11 is due out soon, along with samurai shodown 0. marvel:nemesis comes to mind for confirmed titles

There's also a new Mortal Kombat title in the works that might come out on 360 instead of current gen systems.

EDIT - for the stick, finkle can make it however you want, slightly angled, flat, etc...

For my stick I asked for a Korean joystick to be put in instead of a Sanwa, and for quick disconnects so I can change out things at will... also all metal instead of wood...

I don't know what legeal paths Capcom USA and Capcom Japan have to go through to make a new Street Fighter since Capcom USA owns the rights. I heard Udon (They do the crappy Street Fighter comic) will be doing artwork for it.

Capcom Japan, although unannounced, got the rights to make the next Street Fighter title... also members of the original team that worked on SF II, Alpha/Zero series, and the III titles will have involvement in the project(even though they left Capcom to form their own company...)

I completely forgot about the convex and conclave issue. Damn I'll have to do some thinking now.

If you prefer ball type sticks, the best one to get would be a Sanwa stick.

As for button parts... American style like in the arcades are Happ buttons... they're either concave/convex... it's more of a preference thing... If you want something similar to an Agetec DC stick, you should go for Sanwa buttons.

I always seem to find a game within a minute or two at most when I play. I played some SVC Chaos but I hate how you can't challenge people to rematches after the fight is over. I play the older titles because I like them a lot. My stats aren't that great so it is a true statement! :lol:

i started my first day on my campus (junior year) and had four classes... between my third and fourth classes I went to the main building to grab some food. To my luck I bumped into a group of guys (about 10 different guys) all playing fighters in the in-campus sports bar. Some SNK vs Capcom 2 action was going down. They were some very skilled guys there (way ahead of my league in terms of 2D fighters). I got my ass handed to me every time, which I liked (losing and winning seem to be pretty equal for me, since both ways have equal learning experiences). Ok... now for the reason for all the fuck s I noted above... I noticed the guy who had his PS2 plugged into the TV had a bunch of other fighters... 3D fighters. I asked about Tekken 5 if anone was willing to play me (or any 3D fighter for the matter). I talked to about 4 different guys and I got the same response "No man! 3D fighters suck! Why would I play 3D when I can play 2D! (So and so) is so damn cheap in that game (please note... 50% of the wins in the 2D games they were playing actually happened to be cheap/blocking wins... shamefull)!" I tryed conviceing the other guys, but they tried to totally ignore me... then it made sense (as well as other things, but I am genrealizing here, so don't take me seriously): Almost every single guy playing had a slicked back poneytail like dan... ala VGM... Every single person there reminded me of VGM, but in some ways worse. I know it's okay to be an ass sometimes, but when someone new comes to join their group (If they were more friendly I would have gladdly gotten together again with them) don'y be an ass... welcome anyone new... this really pissed me off... alot... Mainly because I know there are certain imature kids who play fighters as well as the fact that too many people have become narrowminded gamers (I am going to write an article about this on CAG... with this incident, this really bugged me). 2D, 3D, Dolphin Car Racing Shooting Basketball game... who cares! a game is a friggin game! Now you may say, I didn't want to play 2d fighters in order to play 3d... but they were playing the same game for 5 hours straight (non-competitive). whatever... *end of vent mode*

Oh, about the Hori Real Arcade Pro... if you can get it for it's retail price, its a good deal.

But if you have to shell out $50 for shipping, then it's a questionable deal. Nonetheless IMO, it is the best readily available stick out there.

But when it comes to sticks, it's all preference, it depends on how comfortable you are using them. It is indeed sturdy/reliable. My friends and I have been pounding on that stick since I got it almost a year ago, and it's still in perfect working condition.

The RAP is similar to the Agetec DC basically by type of stick, that's all. The RAP uses a Sanwa not a Seimetsu or ASCII stick... the Sanwa sticks are the more commonly used sticks in arcade machines in Japan. The buttons however are Seimetsu brand, which is actually preferred more by top SF and Tekken players as they are more durable than Sanwa buttons... but again I think that's just preference.

Ya know, i was surprised by how tight they got the game mechanics-- I could pull off most of the combos and strategies that I use in the regular version. The main problems were the controls (GBA layout sucks for fighters, imo) the difficulty which was wayyyyyy too easy and of course, graphics and sound.

that said, it definitely isn't worth buying and I hope the DS version is better

I have also met gamers like that. There was this video game club at my college that would get together every Friday afternoon, which I attended for a semester. After a few times, I realized it was just this group of friends who came there to use the college's equipment(projector and tvs) and they were pretty much a clique.
I kept on going, cause a few of the kids were good competition for fighters, but they weren't the nicest group of guys. I'd bring my stuff in and people would use it but they didn't want to converse or anything...very stereotypical gamers. they didn't respond to friendliness, kinda like the dudes you ran in to. It was kinda sad because it seemed like they were out to prove their manliness through games, cause they were quite egotistical and very sore losers :lol:

I do realize alot of gamers are like that, so in some ways it's sad. Japan's arcade expo this weekend is going to be so crazy. I plan on going to Japan next year to attend both the arcade show and TGS... But man, this year is nuts... Street Fighter IV, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, Virtua Fighter 5, King of Fighters XI, Guilty Gear Slash, and who knows what else!

and i like to play cvs2, but have no clue on how to use the a-groove efficiently. i tend to favor the capcom characters because the snk ones just feel weird with a 6-button layout.

dude dan is cool because he was made to look weak on purpose. he's one of the few capcom characters that has a personality. he's a parody and that's what makes him cool... at least to me anyways

I play online occasionally. I don't have a whole lot to offer on strategy though because quite frankly, I am not that good. I still have fun playing though. The team I seem to have the most success with E.Honda, Joe Higashi, and Ken.

you are correct. the only games based on the CPS III boards are the SFIII games and a few obscure Capcom games. Pretty much everything that is newer is Naomi or Naomi 2 (which includes Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and the CvSNK games ).

Street Fighter III Third Strike
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Guilty Gear XX# Reload
Marvel vs. Capcom 2

I plan on entering all except MvC2 (I personally dislike that game). I have a good shot at T5, and I'm almost sure I'll be winning 3S (not to sound arrogant or anything, but I've played again most of the guys who play fighters on-campus, and they're all shoto scrubs), but I'm seriously gonna need some help in CvS2, so any strats in that area would be helpful.

Any tips from anyone?

Too bad Kaillera is complete trash! I've had a few matches without lag, but most of it is sub xbox-live level. Then you have these guys like vgm who think they are tough because they are used to the lag, but really have no decent strategy whatsoever.

anyways, the tourney was very interesting. first up was vgm vs evilmax these two put up quite a show. evilmax won the first bout using blanka against vgm's akuma.

then vgm took out evils blanka with ryu.

vgm's ken then lost the 3rd fight against evil's sakura( in their best bout IMO) it was very close.

then evil wanted to end it and chose his blanka to go up against vgm's akuma. vgm spanked blanka like a little red-headed step-child.

feeling cocky, vgm decided to use dan to finish off the tournament., but evil's blanka proved to be too much for the saikyo master. and evilmax17 moved on.

sadly, my opponent didn't show up and i moved on ahead to challenge evilmax

we had a few practice rounds before the tourney, and i was feeling confident...somethign i regretted later. his blanka took down my charlie in a very interesting match.

the second round i picked my gief and he chose cody. i told him earlier that cody can take out gief like nothingbecause of the rock throw. that is true, but he didn't use them often enough giving me the win.

my gief then got rocked by his sakuraand evil was up 2-1

i picked blanka and he stuck with sakura, blanka one with a super

evilmax then lost connectionso we had to wait for him to log on again. afterwards, my akuma defeated his sakura to win the tourney.
