View Full Version : Wrestlemania Anthology only $151.18 at DDD!

I was just writing about this in that bumped Invasion thread, then I decided to actually check DDD to see if the Anthology was listed yet. Sure enough, the box set is already showing up. And the price is amazing... $151.18. That's OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS LESS than the retail price!!!
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=WWE094517
I've double checked, and this set does in fact include Wrestlemania 21... which means that now, you're only paying $7.20 per Wrestlemania. The inevitable 20% off sale will bring the set down to $120.94 (or $5.76 per Wrestlemania)!
The set will be released November 1st... get ready!!
EDIT: the Wrestlemania 5-packs are also listed at $37.78 each ($7.56 per WM; $30.22/$6.04 per WM after 20% off sale) . Together, these sets make up Wrestlemania 1-20 (which is why WM 21 is considered a "bonus" in the full box).

Of course all the 20% off prices I listed here are based on the assumption that the price remains constant until the next sale... we can only hope! Either way I think we'll be hard pressed to find a better deal than this.

That is a great price for the entire set.
I wonder if the scratch logo from the "Attitude" years will continued to be blurred out on this set? If so, that may detract from people purchasing the entire set. I'm sure all licensed music will be edited out like it is on all WWE DVD releases (unless Vince and co. have clearance to use it), which stinks.

IIRC, the entire set comes with WM21; the 5-WM sets, obviously, end at WM20.

I assumed it used a nice round number like 20, but the box cover says 1985 though 2005 (which would imply 21 is in).

This really is a great deal! The 20% off code doesn't usually apply to preorders though, but its a great price even without that. If the 20% code comes out after it is released though let's hope they keep the price where it is now and don't raise it closer to the $260 that it is selling for everywhere else.

Apparently this is an email sent out by WWE (source is http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=12622&p=1 , but it's pop-up HELL so I wouldn't recomment clicking that):
For the first time ever, the complete WrestleMania DVD collection. Includes all 20 WrestleMania events plus (exclusively available only in the box set) WrestleMania 21.
Additional box exclusive extras:
-Historical DVD photo gallery
-Four collectible cards each featuring a famous WrestleMania moment captured on a replica piece of film.
-WrestleMania 1-14 events have never been released on DVD!
WrestleMania 20 and 21 are currently the two best selling WWE DVD titles of all time, each shipping 200,000+ copies.
SRP: $279.95 (complete set)
So Wrestlemania 21 is in, as a "bonus" bonus for getting the full box!

I have all of the WMs that have been released on DVD, but I'm considering ordering this bad boy.
Refresh my memoy...what was the first WM released on DVD? I have to figure out how many WM DVDs I'll have to resell due to duplicates.
Thanks OP.

I'm curious to see a complete, confirmed list of features. The recent DVD's have been jam-packed with extras... so I can't help but wonder if we'll be getting, say, all three discs of Wrestlemania XX. Wrestlemania XX and 21 in particular had outstanding extras (the Wrestlemania documentary and the Hall of Fame dinner), good enough to make me keep the originals if they are not included in the set.

I actually sent them an e-mail telling them that their Retail Price was wrong (They had $299.95 instead of $279.95), and that it was cheaper to buy all 4 sets separately. I provided them a link to one of the wrestling sites I visit that shows the correct retail, and asked if they could lower the price. 1 day later, its went down $10.80, only $.06 more than if you buy all 4 volumes separately, and it includes the box, all those extra items and WM 21. Not a bad deal at all.
Also mykevermin, DDD does not lower prices. They charge what you place the order for. I just called and cancelled the one at the old price off of my order, and just reordered at the $151.18 price.

Well if its 21 Wrestlemania's and I think I read there is 31 dvd's in the set there must be some extra material in there of some kind. Just a question as to what that is would be key. I'm sure I'll be making the Plunge also to get the whole set though. :-)

DDD doesn't strike me as the kind of place whose prices fluctuate, so you're probably good if you want to wait.
Wal-mart carrying this for $3 under MSRP is a little odd, however.

I'd love to see a disc-by-disc breakdown of what we get, along with a list of any bonus features! I still want to know if the HOF dinner and Wrestlemania XIX documentary will be on there, so I can decide on whether or not to sell my WM 20 and 21 DVDs.

I hate to be a downer, but those DVD's are going to be heavily edited. All of the WWF scratch logos will be blurred out, any commentary from Jesse Ventura will be removed, and of course, a lot of licensed theme music will be edited as to not pay royalties.

But at least the scratch logo and (for the most part) licensed themes won't be an issue for all the older shows that have never been available on DVD until now (with the exception of WM14, that was the first WM to use the scratch logo IIRC).
Fudging up the commentary will be a bummer though, no matter how you look at it. :-(
Still, getting them for $5.76 each when that 20% sale hits (assuming the base price remains constant until then) makes the whole thing worthwhile IMO. Theoretically the sale is not too far off; people have said to expect it around Thanksgiving.

Why is Jesse Ventura removed from commentary? Can anyone else confirm this (not to doubt the man who has the Cabanarama in his sig, but this is the first I've heard of it)?
What themes would be changed (just a few, I don't expect a comprehensive list over 21 ppvs ;))?
Lastly, WMXV was the first with the scratch logo. Only WMXV through X-8 will be affected.

Back in 93, Ventura sued WWF over royalties for use of his voice and likeness in WWE video releases. He thought that he should get a bigger piece of the pie, or rather, any kind of piece at all. WWE begged to differ, settle with Ventura for about $810,000, and decided to just edit his likeness out of future video/DVD releases, instead of paying him royalties. However, I hear that WWE plans to fill the holes left in the commentary tracks by putting Todd Grisham in there to do commentary..........just kidding (thank god)

i'm definitely waiting to get more info on the contents of each DVD. i have the 1-13 VHS set (although I'm curiously missing a couple of them), but I don't want to have to hook up my old ass VCR just to watch.
the plus side of those VHS tapes is that they were taken directly from the PPV feed, complete with promos for next year's wrestlemania. they didn't even edit out Vince shilling WM7 being at the LA Colisseum during WM6, when it was eventually moved to the LA Sports Arena due to low ticket sales. that was a major embarassment for the company...so you know they probably weren't keeping a close eye on the home video releases around 7 or 8 years ago.
of course the negative of the VHS series was that the quality looked as if it was a bootleg. each one looks like it was taped on EP mode.

However, Ventura and WWE have worked together a lot since then. I'm pretty sure they are on good terms now. I mean Ventura was a freakin referee in SummerSlam '99, and more recently made an appearance at WrestleMania 21 (or XX, i forget). Of course it's possible that Jesse is letting business be business and so this newfound friendliness won't change anything, but I do hope we'll get to hear him on these DVDs. Does anyone know if he was edited out of that Superstars of the 80's DVD? I have that, I should check when I go home.

Ventura's commentary has been replaced and/or taken out in many releases. The Foley and Benoit sets have it removed, as does the Austin DVD, while the Andre DVD has the commentary replaced with Tazz and Cole. With 'Mania, they might be okay, since I'm sure those would have been covered in the initial lawsuit. Thus far, they've said the DVD set will be as accurate as the initial PPV airings, so his commentary should be in going by that.
