View Full Version : Polarium puzzle mode: wow, that was easy.

I started playing this (and several other DS games) on Thursday, and just completed the 100th and last puzzle in puzzle mode. The in-game clock says 1:45, which means slightly over one minute per puzzle.

Now, to be fair, I did write a little program on the PC that lets me look properly at the puzzles, since the DS version was annoyingly missing a feature - letting you flip horizontal lines before even starting the puzzle. This feature would have no effect on the difficulty, and wouldn't let you do anything you couldn't do with pen and paper (or in my case, a badly written but still functional 30 line Python script).

So I'm willing to add another very generous 1:15 for the ten or so puzzles I solved on my PC screen. Still, 3 hours doesn't make for a long game.

I know, I know. Some of you will claim the main game is the challenge mode, or maybe the vs. mode (I don't even know if you need a second cart for that one).

It almost makes me want to rewrite the game on the PC, with a better interface.

By the way, if you're curious about my solver, here's what it looks like. Warning: This spoils #100, although staring at it for under a second is probably OK.

Nice.. close enough to the original it's easy to mistake it for an emulator in flash... but that means it has exactly the same interface problems as the original.

Or maybe you just don't know the rules?

Using a single, straight-angle, non-crossing line, flip tiles to create a pattern of horizontal lines.

If you think you need to get all one color you'll get stuck pretty early.

i always thought the point was to make the whole board a single color... thanx. i couldnt figure out #5 on polarium.nintendods.com . btw that flash that an above poster posted was great. playing it makes me REALLY want to go get polarium... even though ive been wanting it all this time... too bad i missed out on that ebgames.com "sale" of sorts.
