I haven't looked through this sale yet, but it has been some time since the last one so perhaps they have added some new items. This sale will probably last through Labor Day Weekend...oh and I haven't seen this posted yet.

As usual, buyer beware on these sales as they can have the back of the box slashed, mangled, or worse. I know one of my orders came in slashed on the barcode, but it wasn't as bad as some others have reported it to be.

The prices are pretty good.
BUT the sale is kind of DUMB if they destroy/ damage the merchandise like that on purpose.

The Mechazawa plush is awesome and all they did was punch the barcode tag on mine (way back when). $6 = great deal if you can find enough stuff to make shipping worthwhile. Another good deal is Kino's Journey 1 + box for $8. You get a little mini-license plate with it.

Weeeeeeeeeee. Didn't see much other stuff that would still be worthwhile with the barcodes destroyed though. I think they should've just limited their sale to 1 dvd per title per person instead of mangling their merchandise before releasing it to the market. But that's just me.

Some, especially at first had a light score. Others were drilled into slopily. Still otheres were gashed on the upc.

I if you see what you like just buy it. They offered the cheapest anime out there when there is a sale. I purchased anime boxsets from them from two different sales. There was nothing damage except a small hole on the UPC barcode and shipping is ok. But if it kill you because there is a hole in the UPC barcode, then go get a life stupid.!!!:bomb: Again here is the description of the items if you are purchasing. Everything is NEW, except the UPC barcode has a small hole on it. If this kill you painly just go hit yourself a few times in the head for being stupid and passing up on this cheap ass deals.!!!!!!

there are cheapass collectors too, who would prefer that their merchandise isn't damaged, regardless of how good the price is. A hole in the upc is no bother, but if the art box or case is ruined, it doesn't look as good on a shelf.

Well I don't really care about the cases I have plenty of extra lying around. Though Art boxes if there is a huge slash on them that would suck. Could care less about the bricks but like the Azumanga art box, Kaleido, Kino, Zaion and whatever other art boxes they have (can't remember off the top of my head). I'm sure the customers (especially myself) won't be very happy about it If adv does mess up the boxes like those bar codes. I just can't picture how they would mutilize an artbox and am kind of afraid of the possibilities. So if anyone who has ordered an artbox from them please tell me the condition and how they mutilized it.

I purchased Final Fantasy Unlimited, Wild Arms, and RahXephon art boxes from them on the last sale. All there is on those boxes is that a small hole is drill on the UPC barcode. So don't worry I think they only slash the single volume anime if you were to purchase it. I only buy art boxes or complete series like Arc the Lad.

I wanted to read more about this but the extensive thread at AnimeOnDVD seems to have been removed and I only found two pages in Google's cache. It seems to be random. Either nasty cuts all along the case or a neat X on the UPC.

I took the risk. At 5-8 bucks a pop for a single volume and some sets at $20, it was hard for me to pass up. Azumanga Vol 1 @ $8 was wayyyyy too good for me to pass up.

This picture is from their _first_ sale. After people complained, they switched to tiny drill holes. Unless they have some stuff from their first sale (unlikely) it's probably fine. I ordered perhaps a dozen items from them, and all had the drill holes. Most (non-collector) people wouldn't even notice them.

I've ordered dozens of things from them since they started doing these sales and I have never gotten the slash. Mine have always been drilled and a few times nothing at all. They do drill through art boxes as well as regular cases. I had 1 or 2 that were sloppily drilled but almost all of them have been small clean holes. The one plush I bought was not damaged but they did open the plastic instead of messing with the UPC.

Despite me having most of the stuff that is on sale this time already (Much of it for even cheaper than I got it originally, doh!) I still managed to place a $150 order last night.

For me, the best purchases from these sales are always the Vol1 + Box and things of that nature. They are usually ridiculously cheaper than you could ever get in normal retail. Plus, the type of paper or cardboard used on the art boxes generally lends themselves well to the very small hole that is drilled. This means that the hole comes through very neat and clean.

I have bought Azumanga Diaoh Box, Chrono Cross Box, Mezzo Box and a few others and every one of them has been very neatly done. You cannot even tell the hole is there unless you are actively looking for it.

You realize that this is like saying "I've never watched a movie before, so what would be a good one?"

Given that you want it for a film editing class, of the ones in the ADV sale, I'd go with Kino's Journey. You would have to track down disc 2, as it's not in the sale.

Elsewhere, somewhere in the DVD forums, you can get Now and Then, Here and Now for dirt cheap.

Both are relatively short, self-contained series that would hold up well for critical analysis. They're also both available on Netflix.

Not necessarily. I've heard both good and bad and, personally, when I ordered my Nadesico Collection (the larger one) several months ago for $10 instead of the usual $90, the DVDs, the insert, and the box came in pristine form and was still in its original shrink-wrap. No cuts, no scars, no holes, nothing.

But then again, that was over half a year ago, so your mileage may vary.

Don't bother... the 10$ coupons seem to have gotten axed early in the ani-mini printings. My Super Gals was supposed to come with one and didn't. My Azumanga Daioh didn't.

And as mentioned before, I'm sure you can't use it on this clearance sale.

No I don't believe there are any codes, but i fyou load up on a bunch of $3-$5 stuff with what you are already going to buy, it makes shipping a little bit more tolerable.

Haven't bought anything in awhile but all the barcode holes have been neat on mine. If I'm getting a boxset or multiple dvds for a set though I'm getting them for keeps and I want them pristine. Otherwise I'd just download them. Scratch that last sentence...

I got the Arc the Lad collection when it was like $30 (when ADV didn't slash barcodes). I liked it okay. I got the Soul Hunter one too though not from the ADV site. It was kind of boring and uninteresting but not terrible.

I forget which sale it was that gave free gifts before (April Fools Day maybe?) but I got a random volume of Crying Freeman. I ended up selling it to a used place without watching it so I don't know if it was any good.

Same, I ordered the weekend before labor day, was charged on labor day, and still haven't received my order. I live in Texas, too, so it shouldn't take this long to get my order...bleh. Especially if they're charging $7 for shipping. I ordered Azumanga Daioh vol 4 from Best Buy a few days after and got it 2 days ago, and that was shipped from CA for $2. they did say 1-3 weeks for due to sale volumes at the bottom. Dont worry it will get there soon. im still waiting for mine also. i ordeed mine the same day.

Donate it to a local library. All the libraries around here are trying to beef up their DVD sections, and most have pretty anemic kids' selections.

Same. It doesn't bother me that it's taking so long as much as they've already charged me the full amount without sending anything. That's a very poor practice and requires me to go through extra crap if I end up wanting to cancel my order. Damn ADV.

well they did say shipping delays due to high sales volume. i placed my order same day 9/2 and sent them an email about it. they still havent sent out my items yet but will provide me with a tracking number later in the week...hope it does get sent out....crossing fingers!

My Slayers Best of Radio and TV, Slayers the Motion Picture Soundtrack, Lost Universe Soundtrack, and Slayers: The Motion Picture came in via Fed EX. The wait was worth it with near mint condition of all of the packages (sans a little poke on bar code) and I got a free Generator Gawl to boot too.

Okay I finally got me order on Friday 9/23 when I ordered on 9/2. Didnt get atracking # at all. Holes were really small in the UPC so they were totally worth it. Disc 1 of Arc the Lad Collection was out of the case and its really scratched, so I e-mailed them and gave a call, but I think it might be a while becauase of the Hurricane. Also, I didnt get anything extra for ordering 3 items. I hope they get back soon so I can see whats going on. Anyone else not get the extra surprise?

Just got mine today. After this I don't think I'm going to ever order from another ADV sale again. It took them over a month to get my order to me(I ordered on the 2nd), they didn't respond to my emails, I had discs floating loose in their cases when I finally did get my order, and, of course, I didn't even get a free gift :bomb:

Wow. I'd heard before their customer service sucks, but I got a reply in under 3 hours, with the tracking number. Seems the DVD's arrived YESTERDAY and my apartment management never bothered to mention it to me...

And in my case, no hole through the barcode or anything!

In other words: if you haven't seen your package yet, email them!

Well if the next iteration is even cheaper than this one it would be hard to pass up 10-15 buck complete 26 episode series even with a month wait. Regardless, I will now order day 1 of a sale. My order on day one of this sale came like in 2 weeks vs this 2nd order that came in like 5 weeks.
