Not to mention its first week sales in Japan:
Nintendogs is the fastest selling Nintendo DS game to date. In the first week of its release in Japan (4/18 to 4/24), its sales totaled over 168,000 units (Nintendogs: Shiba & Friends - 75,000 units, Nintendogs: Miniature Dachshund & Friends - 49,000 units and Nintendogs: Chihuahua & Friends - 44,000 units). This title game also boosted the Nintendo DS system sales by over 4.2 times the previous week to 95,000 units, up from 22,000 ([1] (http://ds.ign.com/articles/608/608232p1.html)). In that one week, the DS sales were more than the combined total of PSP and PS2 sales for the month of March (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March) in Japan.

And to inject some humor into this conversation....

Interesting, we actually outsold Japan the first week, 250k vs 168k

I am sure they sold great, but isn't this just a blog website. Not to reliable of a source IMO. I bought an additional DS for my fiance, and 2 copies of Nintendogs, so like I said it probably sold very well.

I agree, but like most blogs that was unoriginal content. It was on a few other newsites this morning including magic box and joystiq.

Well, we do outnumber them roughly 300 million to 125 million - so they still bought more per capita...

I know... plus Nintendogs is kind of quirky and bloodless so it is definitely a surprise to me that it is selling so well here...

My Local EB said that they were sold out until October despite it still being instock on the website. Will the value of Nintendogs go up over the next couple of weeks? If so, I may want to trade my copy then, I'm not that blown away by it.

It's almost hard to believe that they can fit that number of people on that little island. Then again, maybe it looks bigger in-person. :D

Can't really compare a game where you raise a puppy to a game where futuristic soldiers kill aliens or whatever with really big guns.

I wonder how many more copies they will sell this holiday season. With the DS having some good games now and the PSP still being over 200. I could this game being in the top 10 selling games for a long time.
