Like the topic says, is it possible to choose if I want 1.5 or 2.0 coming from an original 1.0? I will be receiving a PSP soon and I have no idea how the upgrading and firmware work along with all those emus people are getting. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

If you do it via network update, it automatically does the most recent update. You can choose which one you want if you download the update on your computer and then transfer the file to your memory stick

There is no difference between 1.0, 1.5, 1.51, 1.52 besides 'security upgrades'. 2.0 is where the 'new' stuff actually occurs. If you really want 1.5, rent Dead to Rights or Midnight Club 3 as they have a 1.5 loader on the disc.

What type of stuff does the 2.0 version have? And did the PSPs for the US launch have 1.0 on them or 1.5? Any other firmware advice and/or tidbits is appreciated.

US PSP's came with 1.5 at launch,
2.0 has custom BG's, web browser, and other features that you can learn about here (http://psp.ign.com/articles/637/637289p1.html)

Thanks LN. This may sound like a total noob ?, but since I haven't received my PSP yet, I guess it's justified. Can you browse the internet on the PSP, and if yes is it through your ISP or somewhere else? This may also be another silly ?, but can you play someone (WiFi) while in your car or traveling? Thanks again for any help.

? I think there's a pretty big difference from being able to run emulation (1.0 and 1.5) vs not being able to (1.51 and 1.52)....
Correct if I'm behind and 1.51 and 1.52 have been hacked.
^^ answering questions above
You can browse the internet using the 2.00 PSP update and you will do it through a wireless connection. And I guess technically yes, you could play against eachother in car, but you'd have to be driving next to each other. The PSP's range for wifi multplayer is supposed to be 100 feet, but with moving vehicles? Highly doubt it.

So is it not possible to play someone out-of-state, and is that 100 feet limit just temporary or for good?

No it completely depends on the game. Some games support what's called "Ad-Hoc" multiplayer (the equivalent of a PSP LAN) meaning you're within 100 feet of the person you're playing the game with. Then there's "infrastructure" multiplayer, meaning you can play people all across the globe. There's only 1 or 2 games that support infrastructure multiplayer, Twisted Metal and NBA I *think*. Most other PSP games only support Ad-Hoc. However, alot of the upcoming games are said to support infrastructure.

Oh, okay. I thought there was some way to play people across the globe. Thanks AHP.
Does anyone know if Darkstalkers is Ad-Hoc or Infrastructure, and Twisted Metal:HO as well?
And also, is there a way to play Infrastructure on the go?

You can play against people across the globe, but companies havent yet released too many games with full online play,
there is a way to play online that you can do, but I didnt do it because you have to change the firmware on your router and such and I dont want to royally fuck up my internet,
the only way for infrastructure on the go is to be in a WiFi hot spot,

Yeah, I know I can "google it" but with google people don't usually give their opinions on how the LAN (Ad-Hoc) or Infrastructure runs, i.e. how long loading times are, a lot or a small # of people on, bogged-down gameplay, etc. which I thought someone would do here. And Twisted Metal actually is supposed to work for both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure, I'm assuming the LAN play might be a little faster or smoother.

Twisted Metal you can play onine, not Darkstalkers. Infact, I think there are less then 5 games playable online, and they were all launcg titles.

However Darkstalkers is ad-hoc playable.

Well I was asking kind of both. Even when one website or company says 1 thing, it might neccessarily be accurate (Darkstalkers not online capable stated by gizmogc and corrected by AHP who I think is correct). So I thought I would confirm with CAGs if each game was Ad-Hoc or Infrastructure and after that they might respond or comment on how everything runs or is setup if they have used the either the LAN or Infrastrucutre before on either game.

What is the main difference between a regular memory stick and a duo of the same size?
A Happy Panda
09-09-2005, 05:17 PM
The duo is about half the size (physically) of a regular memory stick. It's just a different format really so Sony can make more money.

Might sound like a noobie ?, but what does OEM stand for and is which is the better memory stick, the SanDisk's or Sony's?

Actually it uses a lot less electricity.
And if they used regular MS than they would have had to either make the PSP 1/4 inch thinker to put the slot behind the UMD drive or 1/2 inch wider to put it vertically on the side, or remove the WiFi card.

Original Equipment Manufacturer.
Sony and Sandisk cards are the same speed, but the PSP reader/writer has a bandwidth limit below their maximum transfer speed.
The Sony highspeed cards are for professional digital cameras that need to save multiple large picture files per second.

Thanks QZ for the info. But aren't users here saying that the SanDisk sticks read a little faster than the Sony brand? And is $85 a good deal for a used 1GB Sony Pro Duo Memory Stick? Thanks for the help in advance.
