View Full Version : Official List of RARE OOP DVDS *Fixed and alphabetical on 3rd page*

The List is now on the 3rd page alphabetical and with all errors taken out. I worked on it for a long time. I will make another post of it without the spaces soon. ENJOY!! And don't forget to sell me one of these real cheap if u snag one from an unsuspecting seller at some yard sale or some shit.

Saw someone looking for these and I wanted a nice comprehensive list myself. I ripped this from a link provided by CAG member IKOHN4EVER from DVDTALK. I copied and pasted what their members were listing as rare or OOP. Other than reading pages of posts, here's the good stuff. Duplicates i'm sure are in there. I have retooled the list and if someone wants the file to fix and post it is all complete. Just PM me your email.

Is the Usual Suspects in the plasic slipcase rare or The Andromeda Strain?
Tool: Salival - there were 50,000 copies printed in 2000, and now it seems to be considered very rare. Unfortunately, my CD is slightly scratched, but the DVD is in great condition
Cinematic Orchestra: Man With a Movie Camera - Corvin mentioned this one, too. I haven't seen it ANYWHERE (eBay, amazon, etc.) since.
Eraserhead - not exactly "rare", but definitely a "specialty" item that was worth every penny.
Wicker Man LE - wooden box with two different cuts of the film.
A few OOP Criterions (Silence of the Lambs, Straw Dogs). I would have had the Wrong Men & Notorious Women set, but was scammed on amazon.com marketplace. On the upside, I got my money back, but now the set is way more expensive.
The Red Desert
nekromantik limited signed european edition, only 111 copy all around the world
Starcrash collector edition signed by Luigi Cozzi
demons boxset limited edition (JP)
sergio leone collection - limited
Shoeshine (R1 version) - This went out of print right after it was released. It shows up on ebay occasionally and almost always sells for over $100. In fact there's one on there now that's up to $51 with a day left to go. It will probably shoot up over $100 towards the end...
Pixote
Pig (Rozz Williams) - I suppose this would actually be the rarest i have as there were only a thousand or two made.
Clownhouse - This one should be really rare but it's not for some reason. It was recalled before it ever hit the stores a year or two ago yet you can find brand new copies all day long on ebay for less than the normal street price of a new dvd. Where are all those copies coming from?
Parents - Fairly rare, you don't see this one for sale too often. On the other hand it's not particularly desirable and therefore not particularly valuable either.
Other recently out of print stuff, not particularly rare or valuable (as far as I know):
I Will Walk like a Crazy Horse
Viva la muerte
Presence of Mind
The Tree of Wooden Clogs
Come and See (Special Edition)

All the early WWF dvd's (Theres about 10 of them that go for $30-$60)

I think this is probably referring to the DVD's that came out around the time the WWF had to change its name to WWE. If I recall right they were pulled from shelves and recalled so that the slipcovers could be exchanged with ones that have the WWE logo instead. Ones printed well before this had to change too, but there were probably already enough out so that either version is common. The WWF also has had to blur any WWF logos in its footage on all subsequent releases. I'm not sure if they made this change or not to the DVD's that were pulled or if it was simply just new covers.

ok done
now this list needs some major editing since there are alot of dups
also the criterions need to be marked as such
i think though we have a good start of a list that has most of the rare oop stuff

I'll see what I can do if I can remember anything to contribute after you clean up and retool the list (it's currently too hard to read and quite confusing). Also, it may help to indicate certain releases that were never a R1 release.

Edit:nevermind, there's apparently three topics about the same thing (Why?)....

The Freighteners should be added to this list.

The Freighteners should be added to this list.

Not anymore, because there is a new release coming out, and it's possible that it might contain some material from the laserdisc release. Not likely, but possible.

Sunrise (fantastic movie, by the way ) was a mail order only a couple years ago, but is readily available (not oop) on the FOX STUDIO CLASSICS box set with three other movies for less the 25 on Amazon, DeepdiscountDVD, etc. )

Not all the Disney Treasues are rare, basically the earlier animated releases, and Tomorrow land (which was printed in an edition 105,000)

The Tex Avery box is in print overseas, and was never issued here at all, don't know if that really is RARE, now, is it? THere are several movies not released here but available overseas (Pandora's Box, Delicatessen, Dune extended) but you can find them through the usual places.

Eraserhead (while not oop being packaged with the David Lynch short films dvd) is getting a wider release this year for only $70!!!!

Does the Previous Blues Brothers release have anything unique that warrents tracking down, now that the new one is out?

As nice as box sets can be, if there isn't unique content on the DVD itself (Special features, commentary) and just a fancy package, I think it should be in it's own section.

Can add the Trasformers box sets to the list (as covered in a recent thread)

Flash Gordon... I've looked high and low for that thing in the past. Someday I guess I'll just have to shell out $50 for it...

Some other movies I have had a hard time finding (just a couple of movies that I saw on cable long ago that were amusing) are:

The Vanishing
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108473/

and

All I Wanna Do (a.k.a. Strike!)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120692/

Not the best movies in the world, but entertaining...

Lupin the Third: Mystery of Mamo would be a pretty rare one, since Streamline went under right after its release, and this version of the film never got a reprint.

I actually have some of these. I have four Disney Tins (Silly Simponies, Mickey in Black and White, Complete Donald, Complete Goofy). I also have the Ultimate T2, ET 2 Disc, Snow White, Beauty and The Beast, and the I Know What you Did Last Summer with the quote about Scream on the box.

Thanks for the list! We need to find a way to condense it down very small so I can print it out and take it with me when I go pawn shopping.

You know, I have wanted one of these for DVDs for a long time, since I don't know my way around them at all when it comes to rare - so this is damn awesome! Thanks for posting this! ^_^

Question though: does anyone out there know which WWF DVD releases are the "10 or so" mentioned above...?

Sorry dude, my kids would kill me if I got rid of their Disney stuff. It's amazing how much they all get watched. I actually bought I Know What You Did as part of the 2 for $10 deal that Gamestop has. That was before I knew it was on a rarity list.

I am starting a alphabetical "price guide" from this rare DVD list for myself, so when I go out shopping, I'll know what to look for and how much would be a good deal or not when it comes to purchasing them.

The prices are real rough, just numbers taken from recently ended eBay listing (and averaged quickly in my head) and I am just compiling the whole thing in Word, but if someone would like a copy when I am done or have it posted it here, let me know.

Thanks again for this huge list OP! Now if someone would just make one for video games, I would be set in my cheap ass deal hunting! ^_~

I am starting a alphabetical "price guide" from this rare DVD list for myself, so when I go out shopping, I'll know what to look for and how much would be a good deal or not when it comes to purchasing them.

The prices are real rough, just numbers taken from recently ended eBay listing (and averaged quickly in my head) and I am just compiling the whole thing in Word, but if someone would like a copy when I am done or have it posted it here, let me know.

i would like it if you posted it here. so, count me in.

Ha, I highly doubt any of you will see a copy of the Alien Quadrilogy head in your local GameStop used bin. I need to get a more reasonable search for list together.. because half of that list is not going to be found used, and a lot of stuff on this list is not rare.

Thanks again for this huge list OP! Now if someone would just make one for video games, I would be set in my cheap ass deal hunting! ^_~

The Fight Club 2 disc (the one that looks like a cardboard package) I believe has been reissued because I've seen it at several places lately when I hadn't seen it for a couple of years after the initial release.

It was originally realeased only in that 2 disc set, and then around '01 they put out the cheapie 1 disc version for $9.99, and apparently stopped making the 2 disc. It's become such a cult hit that they probably knew new fans would snap up the more expensive set.

I think they started to reprint the Special 2 Disc edition of Fight Club because I see it in abundance in stores now. I remember because I was proud to have the 2 disc edition and shocked when I saw so many in stores.

I haven't been able to work on this as much lately as I have wanted to, so I have made a printable list on the web that I will update as I can. It's real easy to print out, take with you and use to shop. Blank spots mean I couldn't find the info, FYI.

Enjoy!

I'm hoping someone can help me out with the criterion robocop i just bought. on the Criterion website the case looks like it's a metal tin of some sort:

http://www.criterionco.com/content/images/large_boxshot/23_box_100x140.jpg

but the dvd i got is not a tin. it has a sort of greenish tint to it. the dvd looks fine, and from pics on ebay it sort of matches what those sellers have. does anyone know if there is a way for me to authenticate my dvd?

I have never heard of the figure one, but here's another one: with what must have been the first print of Helling volume 2 came a Helling iron-on patch. I did not get one with mine, but a friend of mine got one and he rubs it in my face EVERY DAMN TIME I go to his house, hehe. ^_^
