Remember: each RIAA CD you buy contributes to their war chest.

i always felt that if I got caught I would do the same thing, the RIAA is just a bully and people are too afraid of their Gestapo like tactics

Back when I still downloaded music, I thought that if they sent me a letter or something, i'd get media attention by setting it on fire in my yard or something.

I watched the tv specials and crossfire type specials they had were people would argue about who was right or wrong and after reading that article and the sales figures. The only people who got it right was south park. Where they were talking about how musicians can't afford the G5 Jet they have to fly around in a G4. Master P's son can't add that whole gold and diamond basketball court.
Yes RIAA it does seem that downloading is really hurting you when sales are Fucking INCREASING. [/sarcasm]

Yea, but if you really dig into what they were saying it's not even true. According to south park downloading is only hurting a little bit. But if you look at the numbers it can't hurt something that is increasing in sales every year.

The last music CD I bought (a long time ago), was a Carlos Vives CD that cost $16. I had heard one of the songs on the radio and decided to get the cd. The only good song on the cd was the one I had heard and to make things better the $16 cd only had 7 or 8 songs.

I don't understand how they have a leg to stand on at the RIAA... people are allowed to share pictures and texts on the internet, as long as they aren't selling it... so what is wrong with listening to some tunes?

I hope she wins her case. I'm tired of hearing about how the RIAA are pushing people around for downloading stuff when their sales are up.

Huh? Their own pictures and words, ones that they own the copyright for, or public domain or otherwise freely sharable (say, creative commons licensed) content.
Sharing copyrighted material (text, images, video, and audio) is all the same legally. However, not all industries view their customers the same way.

Originally I was glad for what the RIAA was doing. They were going after the people who were downloading huge masses of music and had harddrives with thousands of songs. Now they're just bullies and are pushing around essentially anyone who just has a P2P program on their computer/downloads the occasional song.
And the huge "losses" aren't real. I remember seeing somewhere that when a company reports losses due to piracy, it's not the real number, it's sort of a "well, we COULD be losing this much" equation. Say you download an mp3, they then assume that you burned a copy for so many friends, and shared it with so many people online, and THAT is how they come up the huge losses. So really, the losses are just potential losses.

They kick down your door in the middle of the night, drag you off, force you to sign a confession, and threaten your family members with bodily harm? Or did you just hear a line from the movie Face Off and decide to talk out of your ass?
I don't agree with them either, but I agree even less with comparing them to the Gestapo. Let's leave that to people who deserve the analogy.

I personally think the RIAA knows music is in a glut and they simply want to use piracy as a scapegoat while they wait a few more years until the audience has changed and another huge pop boom picks them up.
