whats the coolest surround sound moment in a movie

I got a new surround sound sytem and I was trying it with different movies. My favorite so far is in the second matrix movie with the car chase. When the cars go by it feels like they are really doing it. What is yours?

The space ship crash in Planet of the Apes is pretty intense. Probably the only good part in the movie.

Equilibrium is pretty cool...there's a pretty awesome gun scene that will really have your surround sound rocking.

Those are two of the movie discs I use to test home theater.

To get the best results and provide help with setup, I'd also suggest using the THX disc.

I have the one with just the trailers. I also love all of the thx trailers. One of my favorite scenes is in half baked when the voice goes "Marijuana affects the memory" the effects are really cool.

Black Hawk Down has excellent sound throughout the whole movie. Sounds like the bullets are whizzing right past your head.

I have to agree with Black Hawk Down. I also like the "Seismic charges" in Episode II. That really messes with my speakers.

my favorite would have to be in the movie "fallen" when the soul or whatever it was gets transferred from one person to another. that was totally badass with all the speakers

Check out the 6th sense on your new system. Theres really no crashes or gun battles but if you turn out the lights and pump up the volume this flick will freak you right out. Especially if you have never seen it. It's like the perfect combo of audio and visual. In certain parts of the movie the sound tells the story. With a decent system you will be totally blown away. It really puts an intensifeid ominous tone to the whole flick.

For DTS: The Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan is awesome. It's totally immersive, like you're right down in the fight. Other good DTS tracks are Die Hard 5 Star, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and T2 to name a few.

For Dolby Digital: The pod racer scene in Star Wars Episode 1 sounds awesome, especially when the pods are whizzing around and crashing.
Star Wars Episode 2 is equally good during the clone war sequence and the flying car-chase scene at the beginning.

I'd totally agree with this. There's a part of this scene where a bomb goes off and you can't hear anything except a dull ringing out of the rear speakers like your ears just popped. Cool effect, that really puts you in the scene, but subtle enough that you don't notice it unless you're listening for it.

Each of the first two LOTR movies have some great sound. But I can't really think of a specific scene. The scene where the orcs are carrying Merry and Pippin piggy back (in the 1st one) is neat because you can hear the orcs all around you.

Some of the coolest moments I have with the surround setup is when a movie has a ding or squeak or whatever and I actually look over thinking something just squeaked in my house. Or when there is a rainy scene and the sound makes you feel like you are really standing in the middle of a rain storm.

That movie freakin' rocked! It was really Matrix-esque, but it was still pretty cool. The gun fight at the end was one of the best movie fights I have EVER seen.

Thats interesting. The first diehards didn't even have surround sound in the initial release. Dolby digital and dts came out around 1993 so they must of remastered that movie liike they did for Indiana Jones.

I can't recall any specific scenes, but I remember Hulk having an awesome transfer, both audio and video. Check out that DVD, definitely.

Rules of Engagement iwith Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. some of the gun fights in the jubgle give a great sense of being there.

I saw the first matrix, and thought that the surround was done entirely well during the entire movie (I.E. when the telephone rang, it really sounded like it, the whooshing, the bullets zzing by, etc)
i've also watched winged migration. if you have a plasma screen, i definitely suggest checking it out. even if you don't, it's got amazing camera angles and the vibrant colors and textures on the birds and them skimming across the water is nothing short of breathtaking on a panasonic plasma. and the surround sound was great too.

i just bought kill bill and while the movie uses the sound sparingly bill and everyone walking around in the cahpel was a pretty cool effect

Matrix Revolutions when the machines get into the docs and the humans retaliate, so much gun fire, so loud. Also lord of the rings two towers the scene with the warg riders is pretty good.

I also have to go with Black Hawk Down. It's pretty much the only good thing about that movie. Bullet sounds are unbelievable. I wonder- are there any thriller/horror movies that really creep anyone out with surround sound? Like having you look over your shoulder and say "What the hell was that?!" I really haven't seen any that have had that effect, but then I'm not really into the genre.

The final fight at the House of Blue Leaves in Kill Bill Volume 1 is INCREDIBLE in surround. Every scene with Gogo Yubari, when the chain is flying around, just uses 5 speakers perfectly.

Thats interesting. The first diehards didn't even have surround sound in the initial release. Dolby digital and dts came out around 1993 so they must of remastered that movie liike they did for Indiana Jones.

I have the special edition boxset, and that does have surround sound.
