View Full Version : Private Message Time Limit?

I was responding to private messages and I received the following warning:

"Sorry! The administrator has specified that users can only post one message every 45 seconds."

I can see why this would be useful for forums so people don't flood or post garbage, but why is this needed for private messages? I haven't really tried using private messages until recently when I started using the forums a bit more.

What made it rather annoying was that each time I tried to send a message and get this warning, the clock was reset. I sat and counted to 45 and then hit send and it went out.

You can put more than one receiver on the To: line of the PM. That helps if you are sending the same PM to more than one person.

I hit that myself every once in a while. Usually when I have a PM I am typing up on one tab and a reply I am typing up in another. I'd guess the setting is universal and applies to both posts and PMs the same, no way to seperate the two. Or it could be Cheapy wants to keep a pad between PMs to discourange PM spamming.

I dunno, I'm not seeing the point of shooting off such rapid-fire PMs unless you're spamming.

That's exactly the reason, and it's for that purpose, spam protection for both posts and PM's.

It used to be 60 seconds between posts, and Cheapy dropped it down to 45 seconds.

If people need to post quicker than 45 seconds, then they should try cutting back on their uppers, amphetamines or caffeine.

This limit isn't going to change in the future, people. Stop asking for it to be less than 45 seconds or gone. It's simply not going to happen.
