I just want to know what everyone thought. I liked it. I really like the animation, very amazing stuff. The voice acting was good (not that I can understand japanese, but it didnt sound stupid, no girly voice for cloud or anything) and I really liked all the fight scenes.

The story was good, I wouldn't say amazing. It might be confusing for people that havent played the game, so I'm not going to want to watch it with my friends that haven't, theyll be asking me all sorts of questions.

The thing I found most disapointing was the soundtrack, I was hoping for some more original stuff, not just copies off old CDs.

Also, does anyone else think they left it open for a sequel, either game or movie. I don't know, maybe it was the translation, but Sephiroths last words seemed to foreshadow something. (just noticed zewone has this as his avatar and rank...)


On another note, I like how the movie opened the same way the game ended. Pretty neat.

Care to elaborate wtf you're you're talking about. How can you not make another FF movie without Uematsu at the helm. Only a few songs were taken from FF VII Piano Collections and One-Winged Angel and Jenova are both brand new arranges. Here's the tracklist coming from the OST due on the 28th:

well it sure didnt sound original, maybe those songs just stand out because ive heard them before. as for the songs that were "newly" arranged, I didn't care much for them, I would have preferred more symphonic stuff.

I can't wait for the soundtrack to come out. I loved the soundtrack of the movie. Especially the rearrangement of One Winged Angel. Definitely loved the movie. Watched it a second time today with my friend. And I seriously wish there was more Yuffie action in it. I feel ya on the fast moving camera. But I thought the animation was really great, even the showing off stuff. I mean if it looks good, flaunt it. I like the story, for the most part, but I didn't think it was totally amazing like wow this is the greatest movie I've ever seen. Saying the movie sucks is definitely just as extreme as saying the movie is the best movie ever. You're looking at it from a technical standpoint and not even at a big picture. I'm also wondering, did you download it or import it? Because the jerkiness that you complained about could be due to the download/codecs.

There were only a couple big things that irked me.

1) There was too much flying going on. I know it's FF but cmon. It was like crouching tiger x10. These people shouldn't be fighting they should be playing basketball.

2) Where was Cait Sith's big puppet dude?

I think the moogle part of Cait Sith got left behind. I guess Reeve just wanted to ride on Red XIII. As far as the whole CTHD-ness of the movie, it really makes sense for Kadaj, Loz, Yazoo, and Cloud, as the JENOVA cells in them give them superhero like power. As for how EVERYONE else does it, I'm just gonna blame it on low gravity.

I think that was supposed to be a sort of grave marker for Zack. And come on, would you use a level 1 sword or a level 75+ sword?

Yeah. Cloud doesn't use the sword in the game (unless you're crazy) because it's so weak with him. With Zack, on the other hand, it would be the ultimate weapon. Cloud, according to knowledge, didn't know how to properly use the weapon.

Nope, the movie itself takes place 2 years after the defeat of that guy with the long ass name that noone can pronounce.

That Red XIII was completely unnecessary because after he howls it goes to say 498 years before.

Man, what a fun movie.
Pretty much the same sentiment as everyone else. It is not the greates movie ever.
BUt just think about it. Here is a movie that was based on a game that a ton ( I know not everyone) loved. And they put a lot of time and love into making this movie. I know that they are going to make money. But I just think that the whole idea and the movie was pretty awesome.

The graphics and animations are truly awesome. really great motion effects.
The story not my favorite but I still enjoyed the crap out of the movie. Thanks Sqaure Enix.

The Truks stole the show. They did more than the FF gang. The only ones that did anything were Tifa and Vincent. Cid, Barret, Red, Yuffie and Cait just jumped in to say hi.

When they showed midgar lighting up, man, that made me happy. My wife watched it with me. Which is pretty awesome. But she has not played FF7. So I had to explain a lot to her. It would have been fun to watch it with someone who knew the story. She was probably wodering why I was happy to see a city with green stuff coming out of it.

they were the comic relief. It was a shame that Elena had a small role. I was never big on the Turks but I loved what they added to the movie. The game it was like "Oh fuck here's another battle"

All you see of Elena is her ID and then when she shoots the thing that catches Rufus and her standing at the end....thats sad.


And they worked well for the comic relief, I liked them the best....almost anyways.

Pretty good movie. Loved the ring tone, the Bahamut fight, and the second half of the credits. How does Cloud get his motorcycle back after the fight in the forest when Vincent helps him get away? Does he go back and get it somehow when he takes Marlene back?

All of these things almost make me want to dust the game off and play it again. But I dont know if I have the time to play through the whole thing. Grrrr, stupid Advent Children.

I watched the movie last night but today skipped around and watched some of the fight scenes. I really like this movie. I do graphic design related work, so I think I am more enamored by the animation. BUt still, I like it.

I totally agree with you as far as the fight scenes go. The were well done and just looked plain fantastic.

I thought the ending was rather cheesy.

The action sequences were completely spot on though.

The story just didn't do it for me though. The reluctant hero, the themes about family and friends, it was just SOOOOO Square and seem so overdone to me at this point.

I found it odd that I like the two Shinra lackeys more than the "team." The rest of the party besides Cloud and Tifa got like no screen time. I also found it a little meh that Square didn't animate the faces with a little dirt here and there, or just something other than pure white, bright, milky skin 24/7. It's like everyone's faces were perpetually under the protection of Loreal and Maybelline. I think scruffing up their faces a little would have added to the rawness of the action.

High points on animation, and pure style, but low points for unimaginative narrative, facial animation.

I stayed out of this thread until I got a chance to watch the movie. I finally watched it today, and goddamn, the movie was amazing. I loved every minute of it. My favorite part was when Cloud cut the fucking motorcycle in half.

The story was good, I wouldn't say amazing. It might be confusing for people that havent played the game, so I'm not going to want to watch it with my friends that haven't, theyll be asking me all sorts of questions.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a sequel story, based upon the game, would end up totally lame. ----- One positive - Hopefully they'll use these polygon characters in a future PS3 game. Like a remake!

You do have the DivX codecs and whatnot, right? The K-Lite codec pack should keep you covered.

And most importantly, use real-looking people instead of lego blocks. When I think "Cloud" or "Tifa" it merely conjures up images of toys. Talking, walking, goal-oriented toys who are determined to save the world, yes. But still toys, not people. I feel no emotional bond which is a serious flaw.

Plus, it will sell millions and put Square back in the black.

just finished it. For anyone who doesn't have it yet-- I highly recommend getting the full DVD version. I also highly recommend waiting for a better translation, cause it's like someone Babelfished the whole thing. Or maybe the story just doesn't make much sense in the first place.

The only line that didn't make any sense in the translation I had was when Yazoo and Loz are trying to tear down the monument, and they say something that pisses Reno off for some reason. In my translation file, it came up as "You don't have any faith in us, eh?", which didn't make any sense to me. Apparently, it was supposed to be something like "So he doesn't have faith in you?" regarding Rufus. Then it makes sense why Reno seems so offended.

Holy crap! It was great! The fight scenes, especially the last one, were amazing! Story lacks a it of punch but I could care less considering that everything else was damn near perfect. Maybe some more of the other characters would have been nice but still DAYMN it was hella awesome! Make sure to turn up the sounds since it sounds so awesome!

I'm pretty sure it's just a part of his speech pattern in the Japanese. Just like how he uses the "buddy" honorific when he talks about Rude (which is the same honorific that Yugi uses with the Pharoah in Yuugiou).

I finished the download, downloaded xvid and got it to play. But, I can't get any subtitles. There is a separate folder named "subs" and has 2 files. One with a .rar extention, and the other with a .sfv extention. Any suggestions?
