I think I've got a 120GB (Motorola model 6412) one but it still fills up way too fast and I'd like to expand if possible. The CSRs there are impossibly dumb. Anyone know?

That's what you get for not picking TiVo.

TiVo is not an option. I need an HD DVR and TiVo only offers one through DirectTV and it's $1,000 and although I think it's 250GB it's definitely not worth it. Plus, starting next year Comcast has partnered with TiVo so I will be getting the TiVo interface (in 16x9) and all of the features that come with it...

I don't know if they give different boxes for different areas but this one is listed as 160GB for the HD Model:

The other ones that it let me look at were at the 120 you already have.
EDIT: I just went to Comcast.com and found this information.

I just got one 2 days ago and mine is a piece of shit, it resets itself at least once every hour and the HD recordings are choppy when playing them back. They are coming back out today.
from the manual
Your model is 120 GB, the DCT6416 is 160 GB
Should record approx. 24-32 hours of analog, 38-73 for digital channels, and 10-15 of HD.

If you wait Comcast is supposed to be offering TiVo to its subscribers. I believe it was the end of the year or begining of next.

Going by this I would say you got the highest capacity model the offer, comparing the answer to the estimates I posted previously. But there's no telling when this was last updated,
"How many hours of programming can I store on my DVR? What is the hard drive capacity?
Comcast offers several different DVR models, so ask Customer Service about the DVR models available in your area and check the information provided with your DVR for recording and hard drive capacity. In general, you can store up to 60 hours of standard definition programming and up to 15 hours of HDTV."

The problem with recording in HD is even at 250GB (which is the biggest a majority cable and satellite providers offer) you only get about 25-30 hrs tops. I think at least some (if not all) Media Center PCs allow your to record in HD and can be fitted with larger hard drives. Though I admit I don't know much about them and there may be some additional cost for added equipment or something.

yeah, if I knew anything about computers or electronics in general I'd definitely build my own. There's an awesome site dedicated to just that but I think it is over my head... www.byopvr.com (http://www.byopvr.com)

That is great news for both you and TiVo. I don't do HDTV (does it really matter that much, especially if you don't want to own a large TV?). I do have the combo TiVo / DVD recorder. I've played with a couple of non-TiVo DVRs but couldn't stand the terrible, terrible UI.

HDTV is the greatest thing to happen to TV in the history of TV and that includes the remote control, a color picture and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It makes even the crap shows seem not so bad but a good drama like CSI or Lost or ANY sports broadcast is too good to put into words... so yes, it matters to me at least. :D
You are totally right about the UI though - Comcast has some sort of TV Guide thing going on and it completely sucks. I mean, if you are going to put a UI in an HD receiver/DVR box that outputs to 99.9% of the people that have them in 16x9 wouldn't you think to at least make that a feature of the software? I can't see what's on more than 1 hour ahead without scrolling forward. It's pitiful. I hear great things about TiVo though so I am excited.
