Can the PS2 SCPH-10000 go online?

I don't know much about gaming online with a PS2. My roomate brought over a network adapter for the PS2. It's a Japanese PS2 but hardware are universal. I noticed a long time ago the back of this version's PS2 is different. This is the PS2 that's also a all region DVD player, which is cool but I didn't get it for that, still it's nice.

I don't think they ever made a Network Adapter for that model. I know that there is an external hard drive enclosure for it, but am unsure whether or not that has any network connections on it.
