I want to know why the BB on 76th st doesnt sell gamer gift cards with the $5 off coupon but the new BB across the street from mayfair mall has TONS of them.

Really? That's news to keep in mind. I haven't been there lately, but I remember them having ggc's at the bb on 76th about 2 months ago.

Did they always have them?

I haven't found any at the East side one the few times I was there. I'll have to stop by there and pick up a few.

If you're in Madison and still have a functioning Saturn, someone just dumped off their Saturn collection at PrePlayed on the East side. I picked up a few games that looked good (Duke Nukem, Powerslave, MM8) and left quite a few behind. Some of the games still had the original receipts inside.

wow, surprisingly tame state st. last night. i mean, no pepper spray, no riots and I'm up at 10 AM. wonder if tonight will be any crazier

Jeoff

I was expecting state street to be insane on Friday but it was more tame than usual even. Everybody seems content to just pay the $5 and go out on Saturday. I didn't see many costumes that were really interesting. There was a good looking Captain Planet, a Quail Man, and a Rowdy Roddy Piper but I didn't see anything else funny/interesting. Didn't even feel the need to take any pictures. There were about 100 Duke Lacrosse players and about 100 Borats walking around. All the girls were dressed up as ho's like always.

Most of my friends just went to the library to study last night...I probably should have too it wasn't worth the walk over there.

With the extra hour from daylight savings, it's probably going to be insane tonight.

I doubt we'll get riots and stuff though. Kinda wish I was here for that last year

saw someone dressed as Freakazoid and a Pee Wee Herman. gonna be out there tonight with a camera for some shots. If I get anything really good, I'll post them here.

Anyone in Madison camping for Wii? Me and friends will be at the westside WalMart. Since it opens early, if it doesnt work out there we will be moving to BestBuy across the way. We might even have the propane heater going if its really cold out.

I won't be camping, but I'll probably be showing up at a store a few minutes before open to try and acquire one.

Any word as to when the West Madison Wally will be opening?

considered waiting out for a ps3 at one of the BBs. I just know it would be another all nighter like last year, starting around 9PM on thursday, if not earlier.

cept this year I don't know any gamers hardcore enough to go along with it, so I'll probably pass.

Circuit City on the West side of Madison still has 10+ Final Fantasy XII's up by the register. $37.99 until this Saturday.

And yes, you're officially an idiot if you bought it anywhere else this week.

Guitar Hero II was a no go at the East side BB and Target. And most likely the Wal-Mart, I called last weekend and they said it won't be out until the 7th.

Anyone have any luck elsewhere?

Also, anyone find a Wii Kiosk in Madison?

I haven't had a chance to do any running around this week, but I was thinking about trying to run out to Best Buy and Target West after work tomorrow to see if they put it out GHII early.

I was debating taking a walk down to the State Street EB tomorrow as well, but it depends on how cold it is.

I think Toys R Us is going to be the place to be for the Wii launch. It just seems to sound like they're going to have the largest amount of systems.

No Wii kiosk at the Far West Gamestop. Thankfully I was able to walk in... look at a few used games and get out in less than two minutes. The ultimate shopping experience.

I'll cut to the chase on the Madison stores though.

West Madison - 111

How do you know how many Wii's Walmart is getting? I'm just curious since Target West appears to be getting 111 on launch day. This launch is going to be less like previous console releases and more like the PSP and DS launches.

a midnight launch at Target would be sweet. I'm not looking forward to getting there at 6 or 7 AM on Sunday (they open at 8.)

Just went to the East Madison Best Buy to try and pick up some Wii games and they wouldn't sell them to me. Zelda I could understand... but the others... Oh well. Considering they had 4 PS3 games for sale, it seemed a bit odd to be holding out on one system and not the other.

I'd go with you but the radio said it was going to snow :( I don't know if I want a Wii bad enough to camp overnight. I saw the PS3 lines at CC and BB on bluemound were BAD. The CC on 27th st was 8 deep and supposedly they only had 8 units, the BB didn't have anybody so I think they wanted no campers.

So we went to a Madison Shopko last night to see how many units they were getting. They say 4, look outside only 1 guy. So we quick run home and grab all our shit, and get back and the guys friend showed up also, so with us thats four. So we sit through the night, we ended up watching Scrubs for about 10 hours. Then this morning, some lady comes outside and informs us they are only getting 2 and it has always been 2.....what a great experience.

They have a nice clearance section at the Wal Mart in Menomonee Falls/Germantown, WI (The new Super Wal Mart that had just moved from about half a mile away). I picked up Grandia 3 for $15 (last copy) They also had a lot of PSP games for under 20 bucks, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for $11, and........ DISGAEA 2 FOR $23 (This was in the glass case, not the clearance rack) They also have the JBL Onstage speaker system for iPods for $70 (I have this and it's a nice speaker dock, I paid $130 for it about 6 months ago)

Westside Best Buy-- it was tough to gauge. There were about 8 large tents, but I didn't see a whole lot of people. So it could've been more or less than Target. I also asked how many they were getting and they said they didn't know.

Congrats! I struck out. I was really suprised by the numbers most places had available! I heard 18, 20, etc. at a lot of stores. I expected more like 50. Preorders eating into the numbers? Or holding some in reserve for "resupply" a bit later in the week? Or perhaps they all really only had 20.

The websites got Target correct, but that's it. Everything else was off by about 50%. Lots of places had 18-22 when the websites said 50ish. I gave too much credit after the site got Target right, and ended up empty handed due in part to a flawed plan based on that site.

Anyway, I'll check for resupplies soon, and hopefully score one before Saturday.

Does anyone know if Nintendo is shipping out another round of Wii's? And if so, any idea when?

Nintendo plans on shipping 4 million Wii's before the end of the year. Around 1 million Wii's were available for launch. You can do the math.

They also said they would be shipping systems every week. Now we just have to hope that systems means more controllers as well. I have to track down another nunchuck and remote by Wednesday for a party I'm going to... otherwise people will just sit around and drink... what a travesty that would be.

I know I'm risking not getting one by posting this, but I just got an email from Circuit City's website stating that they have Nunchucks available at both Circuit Cities in Madison... but when I go to the site, they state they're not available.

I called one of the stores and they said their truck had just arrived... so there is a pretty good chance they have some controllers, and possibly systems on the truck.

I'll let everyone know if I find out more.

For anyone who is interested in the Burger King 360 games...

The Burger King on Odana (Madison West side) started the promotion this weekend. The best part is you only have to buy 1 combo to get all three games...which is fortunate since BK food is vomit-inducing.

Each game is $3.99 and works on Xbox and 360. The cases are styled similar to normal 360 games.

We didn’t get anything that was worth waiting in line for... Unfortunately, none of the big tickets where things either of us could afford on one gift for someone.

It kind of pissed me off about the EB FF XII for $10 thing though. The add made it sound like it was going to be $10 for the game.... not that you got a $10 gift card when you bought the game... yeah, THATS a door buster.... That’s worth waiting in line for... that, and the EB games checkout line was almost out the damn door.

The rest of my shopping is from online this year (unless I somehow pull some extra $$ out of my ass and can buy for myself)

If anyone is interested Circuit City (West) in Madison has 8 PS3's on the shelf as of 11:30 am. They're all the 20g models. I passed them by thinking they were display boxes until I picked one up. $499.99 a piece.

An employee came by to ask if I needed any help and did a double take at the little pile of PS3's.

To clarify...no, I didn't buy one. I'm waiting for the PS3 library to actually have more than 1 decent title. Plus, who the hell wants a 20g?

No Wii's unfortunately. I would've bought one of those immediately.

Did they have any signs outside saying anything about the PS3 being out of stock, or anything previous to that? The East side CC has 2 signs saying both are out of stock. I'm just wondering if they keep those signs up all the time, or if they actually bother to take em down when they get stock in.

No. They had a 3 x 5" price tag on top of the pile saying something like "PS3 20 gig $499.99". I didn't even see a spot (or price tag) on the shelf for the 60 gig.

Circuit City (West) had 21 Wii's this morning, Circuit City (East) had 15.

Circuit City, Target, and Shopko all have Wii's in their newest weekly ads. I'll never understand why stores feature new systems in their ad so soon after launch. You're guaranteed to sell out within a few minutes that Sunday morning. Then your left to deal with angry customers for the rest of the week. Why don't stores just advertise the games? Every system will sell regardless if it's in the ad or not. This is borderline "Bait-and-switch".

They do it to let customers know that they will have them in stock Sunday morning because otherwise only a few customers who had called or stopped in would know that they have them.

As for the bait and switch, unless someone goes in and is offered a different system because the Wii is not in stock (and that system is more expensive), there is absolutely no bait and switch going on.

The "bait" is the new system which the store knows will only be in stock for minutes. The "switch" is what the empty-handed customers will buy instead of the system (e.g. anything else in the store).

I know this senario doesn't break the law, but it's still sleazy and is strictly designed to get bodies into their store.

I worked in the electronics section at Target for 4 years while I was in school. This was during the Saturn, Playstation, and N64 launches. You wouldn't believe the foaming at the mouth and pure hate that retail employees have to deal with around Christmas time. When there's a new game system in the mix...it gets 10x worse.

Considering that they again handed out vouchers at the store and then told everyone who didn't get one that they would not be getting one even before the store opened, I fail to see how there was any "switch" going on. It's not being sleazy in any way. The store is doing what they think is the best option for what people are going to complain about no matter what. Just as you are now. People would still be complaining because they didn't let people know ahead of time if they had just sold them ahead of time.

Oh, and I would know what happens considering I work at that store and know exactly how the situation was handled and how much the best way to handle the situation was discussed before it was decided as to how things would be handled with the systems that were recieved.

You missed my point entirely. If you work at a retail store, you of all people should understand how idiotic it is for a store to advertise items they know they won't have.

99% of people that saw the Wii's and PS3's in the Sunday ad would never wait outside before the store opens. They just see the ad and go to the store expecting to find a system. When they find out that you're sold out they take it out on the employees. I think it's a sh*tty thing for stores to do to their employees and customers. That was my point.

As for me complaining...not even close. Let me be clear: I haven't actively searched for a Wii at all. When I'm out shopping, I'll swing by the video game section and look, but that's the extent of it. I'll get one eventually, but it most likely will be by chance.

They said they other place has to have it in stock for the to price match it (I've PM'd at BB before when they knew TRU had none left). Then they called up CC, I would've just told her it wasn't there but I was hoping they would get confused and think she was referring to the Wii version. No luck.

BTW: Walmart had easily 20+ copies left in the display case as of noon. If you need a copy of the CC Sunday ad, they have stacks of them at the CC service desk. If you head into CC and they still don't have Zelda, just grab and ad and head over to Walmart.

That never happened. When I went to get it (I believe the day it dropped to $10 or the day after) there were 4 guides left, meaning they either hoarded the last 3 or left a few, or they got a restock. Either way they didn't wipe the store completely of them.

I got Tomb Raider Legend (Xbox), Jade Empire (Limited Edition), Trace Memory, Gunstar Super Heroes and Ape Escape 3 at the West side TRU, at various times after Christmas...There wasn't much good left, X-Men Legends 2 for Xbox was tempting though.

I find it amusing that they have probably at least 20 copies of the "limited edition" of Jade Empire...but hey, I'll take a good game for $10.

Madison's West side is a relatively good area for buying games, new and used. I also just discovered GameCrazy over by Woodman's last weekend, I was hunting for a DS and finally found one there after calling, that made my day. Unfortunately, I go to college in Minneapolis, so I'm not around most of the year to take advantage of this area.

I used a copy of one of those $5 off coupons at BB west, do they generally take copies, or odes it depend on the cashier?

The have Feel The Magic for $10, so you can get it for $5 with a coupon. I know TRU had it for $5, but their out, so this is a good oppurtunity to get it for that price still. They had about half a dozen copies left at BB.

I can't believe that there are NO WII's left in Madison as of 12:30pm. Completely pathetic. Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Gamestop on the West side are sold out. I'm starting to think it may be months before I find one. I simply REFUSE to wait in line or outside of a store to open.

I blame the stores for this hoax of a shortage. This new retail policy of holding Wii's until the Sunday ad is complete BS. This forces everyone to try and buy one at the same time. Who the hell is awake at 8:00 on a Sunday morning anyway?

I think it's Nintendo faking a shortage. Making the Wii harder to find then the other consoles, makes people want it more. I noticed the Milwaukee/Madison craiglist.org postings have a few Wii's for a markup. I had a Wii and sold it besides Zelda there wasn't anything PURCHASE WORTHY to me.

I did ebay the one I got in the mail, but I'm picking one up next weekend.

So I went to BB to cash in my PS2 warranty (gonna get a new one and ebay it to cut off the cost of my PS3) and was told they haven't had any PS2s for 2 months. then of course, the guy asked me 3 times if I wanted to buy a PS3.

I had left the PS2 up at the front while I went to ask. I went back to the counter and told the guy they were out...and he then proceeded to try and sell me the PS3  They must be desperate. He even said "oh yeah, I don't think we get PS2s in stock much any more." as if the thing was obsolete.

I really think you should wait for a price drop on the PS3. If you've been keeping up on the latest PS3 news...it seems Sony is positioning itself to cut the 60gig to $500 sometime this year. I think I can safely say that only a sucker would buy a PS3 right now. They are just sitting there collecting dust...no one is buying these things. Not to mention there aren't any exclusive games (besides Resistance) worth playing on the damn thing. At the very least, I would wait until this Fall to see if the price drop really happens.

You're well within your rights to think that, but if someone doesn't have a next gen game console and wants an BluRay player, it's a good device that serves both of those purposes.

For me, there isn't any games other than Resistance that I would like to play on it, but I would like to have a Blu Ray player... and that might be enough for me to pick it up.

People have to weigh waiting 6 to 9 months for a 100 price drop versus spending $100 for having the device for that amount of time.

Buying a PS3 makes a little more sense if you don't have a 360. I assumed you did.

Part of my (personal) objection to buying a PS3 is that the act of purchasing it validates the ridiculous decision to charge $600 for a console. However...I will admit that I'm a little hypocritical seeing as I would plunk down $600 in a heartbeat if FF13 or MGS4 were out right now.

for me, I knew I would buy one eventually and I just happened upon a few opportunities to get one under retail and I finally hopped on one. I also really wanted a 20gb model (the chrome trim is lame and a 60gb laptop HD is like $50.)

Finally, the "no games" argument is true for this moment, but the year is looking pretty good, starting with Virtua Fighter next week, Heavenly Sword, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Devil May Cry 4 -- these are games together are enough reason to own the thing.

I got the last copy of Wii Play today at Walmart (Westside - Madison). It's essentially a $50 game with a free Wii controller or a Wii controller with a $10 game (it depends on your perspective I guess).

While Gamestop/EB sold out of pre-orders almost instantly (Wii Play isn't even listed on their website), Walmart and Target were supposed to be getting copies yesterday or today. If you're looking for this game, it may pay to look there first.

Thanks a lot guys. The east side Sears is totally dry right now. They had some good clearances on Gamecube/Xbox/GBA games, but they're all dried up now. If I find any more good stuff there I'll be sure to post here.

BTW, is it time for Madison to bust out into it's own thread? Seems like we're 75% of this thread, and it's probably justified as it's a college town.

Pewaukee, WI Wal-Mart had about 6 GBA Micros for $35 as of 7 PM last night.

Be careful though: all but 2 of them were opened. They were still complete though.

I picked up one of the unopened ones.

Hmm... I might have to try and hit the Madison WalMart's here to see if they have them as well.

For anybody around the Brookfield area the Best Buy still has FF12 Art Collection dvds left for $.01. They had a million of them. Don't be a dick and hoard them though.

Any Crackdown sightings around Madison?

I've got nothing to do tonight (except homework....) and really wants me some Crackdown.

I called one place this afternoon that I was thinking of stopping by and they informed me that they would definitely not be selling it until tomorrow.
