wow, no Milwaukeans responding?
Maybe folks could at least identify themselves.
I'm actually in Racine.
There is an EBGames and 2 Gamestops. All pretty much suck :-)

Yeah, I think I outta change the topic title to Wisconsin, maybe more people would show.
Also I've been to Racine quite a few times actually, didn't see any Gamestops or EB Games, I probbaly wasn't in the same area. But thanks for posting this.

North sider here. My only good recent score was a Xbox HD pack for $10 at the GS on Brown Deer road. Though I'm not really the person to ask where to score "rare" items since I loathe RPGS unlike most CAGs. I don't have/care about PS2 either. The only thing I'm really looking for at the moment is component cables for the cube.
P.S. Don't bother looking at the Mayfair BB for clearance stuff. Their selection is "teh suck" and the only thing I walked out with was the new EVil Dead for the box.

Yes every GS and EB in Milwaukee sucks. My favorite is the GS in Southridge mall though because they still have toys. If you ever wanted to see 3 Gamestops and an EB in one square mile that area is your best bet I guess.
The only good place for games in Milwaukee is camped so you'll never find anything good there. It used to be good but it's only a matter of time before hoarders ruin any store.
The Best Best Buy is the one in Brookfield. They don't grill you on returns like some places would. Best selection there too.
That's pretty much the whole story for Milwaukee. Don't get me started on the noobs in Madison...lots of "Comic Book Guy" hoarders around here. I mean appearance wise not that they buy comic books...

I'm in Waukesha, and I agree that the Brookfield BB is the best in the area.
There is one in Delafield that sucks as does the one by Southridge.
There is a Gamestop in Brookfield on Bluemound Road that is okay. I'm not really in to rare games and stuff, but the selection is always pretty decent.
My favorite store in the area, by far, is the EB games off of Bluemound next to Brookfield Square near Fuddruckers.
There are always extemely helpful and knowledeable on anything you want to know. It is a newer store, but the selection is above average. The stock and items are always displayed very professionally, and they avoid looking like a garage sale like most GS do.
Again, I'm not in to rare RPG's or games, but I will pay more in some cases just to go there - the staff is that good.

That's true, GS ad EB suck, A LOT, there are a lot of them...but if they don't have anything good, what does it matter. I'll put that up though for BB. I so far heard that was the best one.

I think this Brookfield store is good as well. They've seemed to go a bit looser in policy as well. They allowed me to return games I got in tradein deals (which some stores won't do). Also, when they had the $5 bonus per game (no exclusions) early in the year, a worker there let me trade in 6 Jampacks I got for $4 at the nearby TRU. All 6 in one trade for over $30 in credit. That was cool.

The Gamestop here in La Crosse pretty much blows. The store is way too small and has too much junk crammed into it.
The Blockbuster just started taking trades on Sept 1 so there is some hope for good finds there. They are building a new, bigger store about 100 yards away in the old Wal-Mart parking lot, but they aren't going to have a Gamerush!
Best deals in town usually come from Goodwill, Shopko, and Target.
Also, the KB Toys in the mall is closing and they are having a 40% off clearance. Unfortunately, they shipped all their video games to another store before the sale began.

You are at one of the lonelist outposts in the CAG universe :-) OK, its not that bad but LaCrosse is definitely out there. I did score some nice N64 deals at that Target 6 years ago.
How has your BestBuy been with this latest clearance?
A new thing I'm doing also, is if you find specific clearance items at one of the stores in your area, or a special sale for only your store, or some deals you wanted to share, posted them, what store they're at, and what deals. Then people can see what stores have what. Thanks for all the info guys!

I tried to do a thread like this a few weeks ago and nobody cared.
Anyway that gamestop in west allis isn't so great. Bad employees and terrible organization of older stuff.
I work at the gamecrazy thats right down the street from that gamestop, btw. on national by pick n save. Our store's in a bit of a shambles cause there's only like 2 employees there right now..
I've found some decent stuff at the record head in west allis on greenfield. Like Time Crisis 3 for $8.

Wow, I just went to the Gamestop in West Allis today. I was going to stop by GameCrazy, but totally forgot. Yes, the Gamestop in West Allis is terrible, they had some clearance today when I went, but nothing interesting at all. I should probably try GameCrazy, I'm looking for some N64 games, specific ones, maybe they'd have them.
Would you know if you had Diddy Kong Racing or Beetle Adventure Racing for N64? No these or not for me, I'm trying to make a trade with someone for these games. And are your prices high?

I saw 8 Intellivision games at the 27th Street Goodwill. They were common but complete . . . would have gotten them but they were $2.99 each.
Armor Battle (that kind of game)

Oh yeah the EB by Fuddruckers has the best employees working there. Problem is the store is pretty new so they don't get much as far as used games go.
The absolute worst game stores are the GS and Music Recyclery in Brookfield Square mall. The employees at that GS are absolute trash and do nothing but talk about Magic instead of helping people or checking them out. The Music Recyclery has the worst prices in the history of video games. Most used greatest hits games are $30...

BTW that Goodwill also had a SNES system in box (don't know condition because it was on the floor behind the counter (jewelry and valuables area) but it was marked $20 . . . could be a deal if complete and in good shape and if someone is looking for one.
Music Recyclery is a joke . . . didn't know they had one at Brookfield Sq. The one at Gurnee is also insane . . . I saw GBA Iridion ($3 at GS and $4 at EB) for $13!

How has your BestBuy been with this latest clearance?
I picked up Ford Mustang (Xbox), Ty 2 (Xbox), Fairly Oddparents (GC), and 2 copies of FF I&II for GBA. They also had Incredibles (Xbox) at $9.99. GBA games like Tarzan and Texas Hold Em' had stickers over the UPCs so they were regular price. Other than this stuff, they didn't have too much else.
I did pick up a practically mint, complete copy of Resident Evil for the Saturn at Goodwill last week.
I'm interested in checking out that Best Buy in Brookfield since a lot of people have been saying it's a really good Best Buy.
But anyways, if anyone has a store they want someone else to check out for them and see how it is, just post it here, and if someone lives or goes in that area, they could possibly check it out for you. I haven't been toa ny new game stores lately so I have nothing new to share. Anyone else?

Just to help make the list more thorough, there's also an EB Games in Southridge Mall (Greenfield), another GameStop about a block away in "Barnes and Noble Plaza," and yet another GameStop - albeit a slightly larger one - midway between the other two (7420 W. Holmes Avenue).
The W. Holmes Ave. GameStop at least used to have old NES / SNES / N64 / Genesis (?) games in addition to the standard fare....but I haven't actually been there in a number of months.
The Best Buy in Greenfield (just before Hwy. 894) usually doesn't have much out of the ordinary, although I was able to grab a $10 copy of FF I&II there a few weeks ago.
There's a TRU in Brookfield (hidden behind Brookfield Square), Racine, Brown Deer (Northridge Mall), and Greenfield? (S. 27th Street). When TRU deals pop up, I like going to the 27th St. location because it's some distance away from any of the malls.
And, FWIW, I was able to get most of the games I was looking for during the last Circuit City clearence from the Racine store.

The Best Buy in Brown Deer is really frustraing. My friend and I were trying to get Castlevania last weekend and they continually didn't ahve it (I had a BB gift card). Finally, we just said screw it and picked it up at Toys R Us next door.
Also, called there looking for Trauma Center, "Yeah, we've got 4 in stock." Go there, "uhhh.. they must be on the truck. I can't get at them." Wen there the next day and meant with blank stares. "We don't have that." Went to the Best Buy on Port Washington and Brown Deer and picked it up (could that shopping center be more of a circus on the lunch hour?)

I have, and being that its new and in a much bigger location than the other GS's, its quite nice. I was talking to one of the employees there, and apparently its a prototype store, so the look of the store is different from other GS's in the area
Thanks for posting all your info guys!
I'm working on getting a new section that would update any deals in Wisconsin Only, such as garage & rummage sales, weekly deals at stores in Wisconsin, and other's that would be updated regularly to keep you all informed off things happening in your area.
I don't know when I'll get to working on it next, but hopefully soon, in the meantime please keep posting your opinions on any of the stores in Wisconsin even if it's already been rated, the more ratings on it keep it updated so we know what's changed and what stores are worth it to go to, and what aren't.
I will be updating the list even more soon.

Unfortunetly this board wasn't here sooner, but recently I picked of Resident Evil 4 at Sam's Club in West Allis on Highway 100 for $15 sealed. They where clearancing out their older games and putting newer ones in, but when I last checked, they where pretty much all sold out, but if you have a Sam's Club near you, you may want to call and check on it. The games will NOT be in the video game section, but in the clearance or As-Is items section. YMMV, but it doesn't hurt to call or if your by there, to check.

Have you been up there before at all? There's a lot to do in Wisconsin in the winter. Depending on where you would be moving, you can easily find wooded areas and either go on or make trails to use an ATV, Snowmobile, etc. It actually can be pretty awesome. I head up to the Upper Pennisula usually every year, and it can be awesome if you have the neccessary things to do of course :)

Maybe I'll see you there at midnight on the 22nd.

I've seen a 360 kiosk at the East and West Madison Targets.
Of course two of the game demos (King Kong and Call of Duty 2) didn't work at the West Side store and the first controller was dead at the East side store.
Oh, well.

Anyone in the Milwaukee area got plans for 360 release? I just called all the walmarts around here and none are doing midnight. Capitol Dr. is only getting 4 premium. I have to work at 6 and cant even call in sick.

Just had to vent a little bit here.
Put an online order in on a CD at Best Buy.com to pickup at store #24 (Brown Deer). I put it in online because I didn't see it out when I was there the day before and have had bad luck with them being able to find things at all. At least with an online order, when I get the confirmation email they've got it behind the customer service desk, right? Wrong.
I get there about 4 hours after I placed the order. She can't find it behind the desk. Makes a few calls tells me it looks like the CD is MIA and then goes away to the back. I kid you not, I stood there for 30 minutes waiting for her to return. Finally she did with some other girl who supposedly works for the inventory dept. She thought it was "Like totally weird, ya' know, that it should be there!" Ugh. Then they proceeded not to tell me they didn't have it but play with the computer, tell me to wait just a little longer, and then just yack about the party they had been to and/or were going to that night. Finally I just said, "Can I just get a refund and go?" (we had pizza waiting to be picked up a fiar distance away). "Oh, your credit card's not charged till we do it here." I turned around and left.
Right around 40 minutes wasted. All they had to say was "Sorry, we can't find it." and I could've been on my way. Now, they've lost a customer for life. If this had been a one-time only thing, it'd be fine, but a similar thing happened with Castlevania DS and Trauma Center. An email was fired off to corporate. I'm sure it'll do no good, but whatever.
Thanks for letting me vent :)

Man that really sucks, I had a problem with a Best Buy in Brookfield, I went all the way there from West Allis with a Staples Online form for a Linksys WRT54G router for $54.99 at Staples when it was $70 at Best Buy. So I wanted to do a price match and I waited and waited. So they went to check to confirm the price and it was confirmed, then the manager comes over and says "The nearest Staples in 44 miles away, and we only price match local competitors but the Best Buy in Jansville could match that for you". Well I was pretty dang ticked off at them, being that I came a ways already and it would cost more than $15 in gas so it wouldn't be worth it and they know that. But even so, I know that was their policy, but it didn't state that (that I saw) on their website, so I really was ticked being I came all that way.
So I ended up buying the router anyways after dealing with them because I needed a router and I was there after all. They are so specific about they're policies and I hate buying from them for anything. The only reason I really bought from them is because I had a giftcard and some BB Bucks. I guess in ways I took advantage of them being that I used the BB Bucks online and now in store, but they never say you can't :D
So I don't plan to shop with them again after I figure out if I'm keeping this router or not because of the fact that it doesn't matter to them if you get screwed or not, as long as they don't.
Another problem I had was after I bought a $4 program off BB.com. It wasn't much but I used BB Bucks to pay for it, so I waited and waited and after email after email and a call to BB, the order ended up getting cancelled, so I thought, whatever I'll get the credit to my gift card and use it for the router. Well I checked my giftcard and there was no credit. So I called and they said they would contact the Tech Support crap and get back to me in 2-3 days. 2-3 days later, no response and still no cash on the giftcard. It's only $4 but I'm sick of being screwed over by best Buy after already being screwed by someone on eBay. So I will probably end up calling again to see what the heck is going on.
Best Buy is doing terrivle with customer service and I really am sick of dealing with them...
Jeoff
11-21-2005, 03:56 AM
Yeah Best Buy customer service is bad in general. BB Brookfield is usually really good. I can understand why they wouldn't PM. I wouldn't be able to PM a Meijer ad there either. Gotta draw the line somewhere. I bet it says in their policy "PM local competitors only" somewhere in the fine print. Hidden under a stack of crates or something.
BB.com rips people off who pay for things entirely in BB bucks. Even if you get them to reply they go "oops BB bucks can only be used once too bad." Such is life though. The best way to make a statement is with your $$.

Madison was uber camped for 360s. On I side note I think Madison has the highest proportion of lowlife FW hoarders of any city in the state.
There were plenty of good games to be had here with the B2G1 used game sales though. Luckily very few people in Madison buy games to play only to sell.

I searched back a few posts but didn't see it mentioned so if it is, my apologies for trolling.
This week's ad for River Falls (not sure about the other WI ShopKo's), Far Cry Instincts for Xbox is $29.99 until December 10. Not much, but considering it just came out recently, any Hudson folks or nearby towns really wanting the game to give as gift should check it out. Please call for availablity because we all know how unreliable Shopko's can be for stocking.

Costco plans Grafton discount warehouse
Grafton – Costco Wholesale Corp. plans to build a discount warehouse in a proposed 15- to 18-store retail complex at the northwest corner of I-43 and Highway 60, according to Continental Properties, the complex developer.
This would be the first Costco store in Wisconsin. Costco currently has more than 300 stores in the United States. Construction is scheduled to begin at the Grafton location this coming summer.

But I haven't ever seen one, so what exactly are they? I know they are a warehouse sort of store, but is it anything similar to Sam's?

Just to let you all know...the Sam's club in Eau Claire just got 16 360's in and they were letting ANYONE in to get them at 7:00am. They are gone now but you may want to call around to see if there are other Sam's in the same position. Their shipment was later than all the others. Good luck!
So anyone go to any of the TRU is Wisconsin?
I went to the one of 27th St in Milwaukee. They had 2 copies of Pikmin 2 (which I passed up and now regretting), but I was able to get Mr Driller, Polarium (which was $10 for some reason, maybe regular price) and Final Fantasy CC. Not to bad, there was almost no people there, though I did see a few people looking around for games, and then leaving (probably because they couldn't find the one's they needed).
Overall though the employee's where as helpful as ever! The one would look for any game i wanted behind the counter, and checked and offered me some other games that where $10. Worth the trip!

I'm down in Platteville, WI for college. A couple friends and I went down to the Dubuque Toys R Us on the outskirts of Iowa.
They had about 4 carts full of the games that she was pricing as we got there around 8.30 AM. i picked up Pikmin 2, Super Monkey Ball 1+2, Digital Devil Saga, Dark Cloud 2, Metal Slug 4/5, Ninja Gaiden, Mario Party 4, Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 LE.
Massively Successful trip.. I skipped on Resident Evil 4 and Dead or Alive Ultimate, since my bill was pretty high already.
Not a lot of news or new stuff has happened in Wisconsin lately has it.

There's nothing too special in Madison in terms of game stores, especially on State St. The only thing that comes to mind is an EBGames on the campus end of State, as well as a Blockbuster a few blocks up. There's another EBGames at East Towne Mall; there are two Gamestops on the west side, one near Target and one (actually a Software Etc) inside West Towne Mall. None of our Blockbusters have Gamerushes, but the west side Hollywood video has a Gamecrazy. The local indie chains are Pre-Played, with one location near East Towne and one near West Towne, and Video Game Xchange, with at least three locations. There are a few Frugal Muses throughout the city, but they're spotty when it comes to games. Other than that, there are two Best Buys, two Circuit Cities, two TRUs, Targets, two Wal-Marts, etc.
But State St. is awesome in many, many other ways. Too bad your first taste of Mad life will be winter.

If anyone here is looking for a Premium 360, there's three of them in West Bend at Wal-Mart.
One question for all you classic game hunters: Where do you look in the West Bend/Menomonee Falls/Sussex/Mequon area for NES, SNES, and Genesis games? I check the thrift stores in Hartford, Slinger, and West Bend nearly twice a week, and all I find is the same exact NES games at Hartford and two broken Genesis at Slinger.

DS is the best-stocked games section at the close-out TRU (the one nearest to 90).
The other TRU still has lots of $10 TRU games. I only know Gamecube, but they had Metroid Prime 2, Fight Night 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, Virtua Quest, Geist ....
The Best Buy in Janesville, which is between Madison and Illinois on 90, has some harder to find games like Meteos on DS. You can use the store locator on bb.com to determine if they have something you want. I was just there and they had bunches of Guitar Hero.
Otherwise, nothing jumps out at me right now.

There used to be some great deals to be found at Target and Best Buy about a year ago, now there isn't really any great place to find deals.
Occasionally Best Buy will have a few games on $9.99 clearance, but not often. Oddly enough the best deals I've seen lately have been closeouts at walmart; they had new Eye Toys for $15.00 on clearance about two weeks ago.
Shopko is terrible for deals, their "clearance" is taking about $5 off of a $50 game from three years ago. It used to be that you could find insane, wild discounts at shopko, but no longer.

There were a lot of DS games still but other than the ones I listed not any I was willing to jump on. They had 5000000 copies of Baten Kaitos with the soundtrack included for GC. None of them had prices on them and the price scanner didn't work since there is a plastic ridge over part of the barcode and I didn't want to find somebody so I don't know the price. I'll probably get one if it's $14 next time I go.
There were a surprising amount of PSP games...most of them crap...and the entire display of psp games was covered in other random dvds/umds and stuff so I didn't bother looking (I sold my psp awhile ago). Lots of stuff for really little kids is left but most of the regular toys are gone.

hey guys i am to new to post on the trading site yet so I thought I would ask some of you. I just pick up a used copy of FF X-2, but it didn't have the manaul with it so i wanted to see if I could just find that.
Thanks
Welcome to CAG! Right now I would think if you don't want to find it online (which may be your best bet), you could look at a rental store like the above said, or try and older game store, just an unordinary one. Sometimes you'll get lucky.

Was anyone able to check out a Sears in Wisconsin for the clearance I heard about?
i checked out the sears at bayshore today and there was nothing i picked up(i was looking for dragonquest VIII, castlevania CoD, fire emblem sacred stones, metroid zero mission, and conker). this is what i remember seeing: the suffering (xbox, didnt check for ps2), metal gear 3, battalion wars (tempting but not cheap enough for me), the warriors (xbox, ps2), bujingai, ico, mario tennis (wish i knew that was 24.97 when i was there. i would've picked it up. i may have to go back and get it) and maybe battlefield MC, spartan, and WWE day of reckoning 2 (dont hold me to those last three, i was at best buy today too and that is affecting my memory) i was looking for the ones i listed specifically so i biasly (is that even a word? sounds right so i'll allow it) overlooked any other titles.
EDIT: went back today (3-3-06) and can confirm battlefield MC (ps2) and spartan (ps2). i also saw burnout revenge (ps2), tony hawk AW (GCN), donky konga 1 w/bongos, MK: shaolin monks (xbox), warioware twisted, L.A. Rush (ps2), x-men 2, and baten kaitos. i'm sure there's more that i'm missing, but thats all i can remember at the moment. i ended up getting war of the monsters (still a couple more there), mario tennis (last one), and pikmin 2. there's not a huge selection there, but there are some worthwile titles.

Green Bay has a Sears with a lot of clearance games. I was interested in the GBA games, but sadly there were few of those. A couple of DS and PSP games/movies. Mostly PS2/XBOX/GC.

I bought two of the Nintendo shirts. They're pretty cool, actually, not some lame crap like "Nintendo Rehabilitation Center" or anything. They just have a small squiggly D-pad type thing with Nintendo in the middle. And it's not really black, more of a grey

Went to Sears today, all I found was Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (which is up for trades) and NES -Metroid for $6.99 (referring to this list, this was the only NES game I could find). They had a little basket in the isle with some clearance games, but nothing was a really good deal, everything was still overpriced than what it should be. Example, Trace Memory $24.99, Metroid Pinball $24.99, and Meteos $19.99, I thought they should be less, but whatever. If someone wants one of these games, let me know and I can try and pick it up if I go back.

had to pop in for one last brag-- decided to hit the west side store on my way out before hopping on the beltline...walked out with--
--parasite eve -- complete, non-gh (did it ever go gh?) -- 6.99
--xenogears -- complete, non-gh -- 9.99
--Star Ocean 2nd Story -- complete -- 29.99
and last weekend i hit the east side store and got FFVII complete non-gh for 19.99 and Persona complete for 9.99.
I'd hit up preplayed every day if time permitted :D

Four Kmart stores are now Sears Grand
Grand opening activities are scheduled this weekend for four new Sears Grand stores in Wisconsin - in Menomonee Falls, West Bend, Baraboo and Oshkosh.
The stores are among 13 Sears Grands around the country that opened late last week, all conversions from former Kmart stores.
The Sears Grand format was first introduced in 2003 by Sears Roebuck & Co. in Utah.
The early stores, including one in Gurnee Mills, were about 200,000 square feet.
The early Sears Grands offer most of what is in a traditional Sears store, plus packaged and frozen foods, health and beauty products, garden supplies, books and magazine.
The off-mall concept was intended to compete with Target and other big box chains that offer food as part of their merchandise mix.
After Kmart Corp. bought Sears last year, the company converted 50 Kmart locations around the country to Sears Essentials stores, a hybrid of both formats, but with Sears brands. There were no Sears Essentials stores in Wisconsin.

I live in Hartford, so the nearest EB/GS are in West Bend and Menomonee Falls.
The GS in West Bend just started up a few months ago, and they had an AWESOME stock of rare games. I picked up Disgaea used and complete for $44.99, and a used (manual missing) copy of Zone of the Enders 2 for $17.99. I also saw a Shin Megami Tensei Deluxe copy and picked it up for $54.99, even though it was a display copy--so it was opened and everything. Also, when MGS3:S came out, the guy at the counter gave me two copies of the Saga DVD for no reason, plus one when I picked up the game.
The EB in Menomonee Falls sucks. They don't have much of a selection, the staff is pretentious and not very informed about new games. Their stickers seem to really stick on used games, too, since I had to go over my cases with Goo-gone three times to get the crap off. I didn't even get a Saga disc when I went to pick up MGS3:S either, they said they gave the last one out. Idiots.
Man, I wish my parents would move to nearer to Milwaukee.

I've seen in the Big Lots thread that some have Icewind Dale (I don't recall I or II, but I'd like another copy of each, so...), and I was wondering if anyone's stopped in lately. They have a lot of stuff, but I don't feel as if you're going to get a deal there. I've gone in a few times, and walked out saying...$20+ for Majora's Mask? They just seem high to me. The last time I was there they had a pretty fair price on Magic the Gathering boosters...then some jerk bought them out :P (Seriously, if you're buying more than like 5 booster packs...buy a box online...way cheaper to buy in bulk...)
I like Preplayed, though I've only gone a few times. And of course there are EB games, Gamestop, and Software ETC. I like to refer to them as "EBGame Etc." I actually have nearly stopped going to EB on state st. and GS on Mineral Point, they've gotten real pushy lately, IMO.

Somewhat substantial rumor is that an EB is going in the strip mall that's going to adjoin Costco.

None that I know of, atleast I haven't experience any, they just take a bit of blood out, take out the plasma, put the blood back in and repeat until you've given as much as you can according to your weight. Takes about an hour

Anyone get a PS3 pre-order in? I was considering going to the Software etc in West town mall, but decided against it at the last minute. Anyone go there? I was gonna go around 8:30 or 9 to get in line.
Peaked around the corner down State and saw a small mob outside EB at around 9:30.

I drove by the gamestop on mineral point on my way to get clubhouse games from BB. It was right at 10 and there were 12-15 people going inside. I went to watch the ps2 launch at west towne and it was crazy. If I remember someone was actually assaulted after picking thiers up.

I don't know. There used to be a different one at u square which is obviously gone now. Just go in and ask how much they pay. I've never heard anybody say they regretted selling plasma.

Do you guys ever hit Preplayed on Mineral Point or E. Wash? I've gotten some nice deals there on my rare visits home: Lunar PSX for $12, Magna Carta for $35 a week after its release, Growlanser Deluxe for $50. All the stuff is used, but still pretty nice. Also check out Mister Money (pawn shop) on S. Park St near the Beltline. I've gotten TONS of amazing stuff there for a song.

It's hit or miss at Mister Money. Last time I grabbed a MegaMan Anniversary, Metal Slug 4/5, Ico, and a few other titles for $7 apiece. In the past i've gotten FFT (when it was expensive), Tactics Ogre PSX, and a few others...all under $10 a pop.
Other times there's nothing but sports games.

How does Madison get all these good, small game stores and milwaukee really doesn't have any? All GS/EB except for those two (or did one of them close?) video game exchanges on the south side

thanks for the tip about Mister Money. I'll have to check that place out. I take S. Park to get to 90 and haven't noticed it...what stores is it near?
my best scores at Pre-played were Persona 1 for $9, FFVII non-gh for $14 (right when it shot up in price) and a bunch of decently hard to find guides for $5 (best one was Ogre Battle.) I have to say, their disc buffers are awesome. Makes them look new with barely any marks. Sometimes I can't tell the difference.
Video game exchange has pretty much been a bust for me. Found D for the PS1 for $15, but it was in bad shape. The west side VGE had Castlevania SOTN non gh for $35. I thought it was sealed, but it was resealed, unfortunately.

Jeez, i haven't been back home in like 8 months. It's in the same center as a Madison Public Library branch. that's about all i remember in the vicinity. It's about 2 blocks short of the freeway on the right side, if you're coming from downtown. I was always kinda bummed that Mister Money is the ONLY true pawn shop in the city, but at least it's always been a good one.
Preplayed is great for other stuff, too. I got 3 hardbound Harry Potter books for $5 apiece, some quality CDs for $7, and they have excellent prices on Criterion DVDs. VGE used to be a fabulous place to go for deals. Got a Nomad for $30 back in the day. Now they're pretty spot-on with their values, unfortunately, so it's REAL tough to snag a true bargain. You'll have slightly better luck with the east side location, but it honestly isn't worth the drive if you live in any other part of town.

I've never had any good luck with VGE.
Last time I had a good experience there was when I got a ton of Genesis sports games for .50 cents each.
I know where you're talking about now for Mister Money. I'll have to drive down there some day on my lunch.

Wow..that shit doesn't even start for another 12 hours. I bet you could walk in at 10:15 get a pre order and you'll get a Wii day one. I probably won't even order one, I'll most likely be able to just walk into Sear or Shopko and pick one up.

I was out around state last night but didnt even think about checking the ebgames. I wish I would have, to talk to the people camping. Camping for a preorder is just dumb. I need to have something in my hand after the camp not just a receipt saying I might come release. Therefore I will be camping at westside BB or walmart, possibly with propane heater and drinks. Thinking about finding a fake palm tree to put up.

I thought about pre-ording a Wii, but decided against it because i had no problem getting a gamecube on day one by just walking into Best Buy oh so many years ago. Same thing with the PSP. I'll just show up at the northridge best buy a half hour before it opens and will most likely walk out the a system, zelda, that dual stick snes like controller, and anything else i may need.

As for which Wii games I'll be picking up... probably Red Steel, Excite Truck, Rayman, Monkey Ball, and Zelda.

Madison westside walmart is not 24/7. They open at 6, so it could even be the second option if BB sells at midnight and someone misses out. Anyone in madison for 360 launch? I was in milwaukee so i have no idea about midnight opening, more popular camping spot type info.

I wasn't, but I'm hoping the variety of stores on the West and East sides will break up the crowds. Like everyone around my home town was at one Best Buy for the 360 launch since it was the only one in the area....but Mad-town has a bunch of different stores that'll be getting these systems. Shopko seems like the obvious choice for the PS3 launch, seems like less people would think to go there but I dunno...I'm sure 50 other people are thinking the same thing :)

For anyone wondering about hitting Shopko (or Kmart/Sears for that matter) on PS3 launch day...good luck. The day of the 360 launch, the four Shopko's in Madison only had two 360's per store. They didn't get another shipment until February (and even then, they were only shipped 4 core systems per store).
The only system launch where Shopko actually had product was the DS launch in November 2004. They were pretty easy to get around town, but sold out by that Sunday night. Shopko (on Aberg Ave.) still had 20+, while Walmart and Target were long sold out. Still...I wouldn't count on Shopko having PS3's before Christmas. Personally, I would hit the out of the way Shopko's in Fort Atkinson, Watertown, Beaver Dam, etc. You may even want to throw in a Pamida or two. Nobody who shops there has $600 to blow on a video game system.
Besides, you're not just competing with other local gamers. There is a group of Ebay nutcases who scour Madison on a daily basis for all kinds of collectable goods. Video game systems on launch day is just one of them. I became familiar with these fat-ass hillbillies back when I used to work at Target (back in '97 on the West side). I still see these losers out and about in Madison almost every time I go out and look for games (they practically live at PrePlayed on the West side).
Anyway,
Changing the subject...I have to brag about my best vg deal ever in Madison. In October/November of 2004 I found Earthbound (SNES) at PrePlayed on the East side for $25.00. Perfect box, players guide, and all the inserts. The game cartridge was still in the little plastic bag that cartridge games used to come in. I love a town full of poor college students. Even the clerk was surprised when I brought it up to the counter.

well, this makes sense, since I rarely find anything in Madison-- which I find strange since there are so many stores all over the east and west side and there's rarely anything good. I wonder if they hit up garage sales too...I went garage sailing a few times in april and saw some guys who fit this description.
not sure if I posted this story already, but there was one dude who was like 250-300 lbs, sweaty as hell, had a hearing aid, and would pull up with his truck, run out really fast to each sale and yell "YOU GUYS GOT ANY VIDEOGAME STUFF?!" while scouring through all the tables frantically.
at one sale, they told him "no" then asked how his day was going. He replied "well, it would be nice if I could find some stuff for ebayyyyyyy" in the snottiest tone possible. then he went to the free bin, grabbed a tiger handheld really fast, then ran back to his truck. it was so pathetic.

I have a hard time believing that he "ran" back to his truck. hehe.
I've seen plenty of those guys around town though. I'm just happy that I was able to score a copy of Super Mario RPG from the $5 deal at Game Crazy last year. The cart is beat to hell, but at least I have it.

Yeah, you'll never find penny guides in Madison. Whatever that couple can't sell on ebay usually ends up at PrePlayed on the West side. All of a sudden, you'll see 5 brand new copies of a particular guide show up.
Anybody know if any of the Border's in Madison (or anywhere else in WI) stock video game stuff? I'm 99% sure the one by Hilldale doesn't, and I don't think the East side one does, but haven't actually checked.

None in the vicinity of Madison do. I can't speak for the whole state though.
Edit: oh I've run into the fat and sweaty FW'ers/hoarders in Madison too. Fat woman with presumably her husband in PP east. Fat woman is knocking all the games off the shelves because she's a douchebag like every other hoarder. Finds a copy of NCAA basketball 2k3 for PS2 and shouts to her husband (who is standing right next to her) "THIS IS THE RARE ONE!!!! IT IS WORTH A LOT OF MONEY ON EBAY!!!!!!!!!" in that retard voice that all hoarders have.
I was going to tell her that she was a stupid bitch and punch her in the gut, but I wanted her to waste her no-doubt greasy money. And I was afraid my arm would get stuck.
I hit up preplayed east/west whenever I'm in the areas, which is often, but I don't buy games I don't want to play. More because I'm scared of turning into the people I see than because of any moral issue.
