The game and console boards are awful...but the smaller game boards (usually for older games or cult classic) and social boards are decent.

Gamefaqs main problem is WAY to many message boards. There is no way that they can be monitored well. That is why they have that half-assed karma system and are more concerned about censor-bypasses than flaming. Plus from what I understand, the mods on Gamefaqs get some kind of compensation. It's a lazy way to moderate the boards. Espcially when they have the volume of boards that they do. There are guys on the Fighting Games board that flame, get a karma reduction, then come back. They take it easy for a week or so and then start acting foolish again. It's getting to the point where there should be a 3 strike rule otherwise people just keep coming back doing the same stuff.

Ive been going to the Gamefaqs message boards for quite some time now. I have nearly 900 karma. There are some bad/annoying fanboys on Gamefaqs, but most of the people are ok.
There are also a ton more, and lots of specialized social boards, so for example I can go to the Star Trek message boards and have a bunch of Star Trek topics to chat on, while here I dont know how many Trek fans there are, so I dont post anything Trek.

Two differences here...

1.) For the most part, the people that participated in the "quote chain" are intelligent and contribute much to the site. On GameFAQs, there are a lot of posters that exist solely to piss off others.

2.) We don't do things like that very frequently. It's happened before (with the cans of spam, IIRC) but they've been isolated incidents. Stuff like that happens on GameFAQs all the time.

Glad to know I'm not the only one disgusted by the gamefaqs message boards. But to give credit where credit is due, I would have never found CAG if not for someone posting about it in a topic over on the Beyond Good & Evil board.

They are a guilty pleasure for me. I have a desk job with lots of down time so if I really get that bored with the other websites I go to a lot, I'll check out their boards.

I agree with the OP about certain oft-repeated styles of posts. I'd also like to add a couple of my pet peeves: people claiming opinion as fact, people bashing/raving about games/consoles that aren't even out yet, and the endless "RATE MY COLLECTION PLZ" posts.

Their moderators are idiots because shit like that goes unpunished. Instead they are on the lookout for people that write "f**k" because OH NOES censor bypass!

I like to troll their boards by being an anti-troll, with a heavy dose of sarcasm. It's amazing how out of place common sense and reason seem there sometimes.

Yes, I admit I post there. But pretty much for all the wrong reasons (like telling people "wow thanks for posting about it on the internet" or "well if your friend heard about it IT MUST BE TRUE" or "NO WAY you post on a video game message board and HAY LOOK AT THAT you even own video games too! thats far out man".
