I never understood why they changed the names of these two characters in America, especially after they had been established in many games and TV shows.

What do you call them by?

I say Bowser and Peach.

I say Bowser : King of the Koopas and Princess Peach Toadstool.

Or Bowser and Princess Toadstool for short.

I thought "Peach" was a nickname.

"King Koopa" is like a title. Like King of the (insert country here).

That's how I always thought they were....not separate names, just different...."levels" of names. Formal versus casual, "tu" versus "usted" in Spanish for example. Low level recruits in Koopa's army would call him King Koopa, while higher level people might call him Bowser.

Toad might call her Princess Toadstool, but Mario would call her Peach.

No?

That could be an after-thought explanation, but the original names of the characters are King Koopa and Princess Toadstool.

I know that in Japan, they still say King Koopa (like in SSBM for instance), not sure about the princess though.

Also, you never hear Bowser/Peach in the Super Mario Brothers Super Show I don't think, at least not until Yoshi comes in.

In Japan, the Princess's name has always been Peach. But when Super Mario Bros. was released in America, Nintendo of America decided to rename her Princess Toadstool, a name she kept as throughout the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. When Super Mario 64 was released in the United States, she signed a letter to Mario "Princess Toadstool" and then handwrote "Peach," which led many fans to believe that "Peach" is her given name and she is of the Royal House of "Toadstool". In sequels and spinoffs, however, she came to be known only as Princess Peach. (The first English game to call her Peach was Yoshi's Safari, but most people associate the milestone with the much more popular Super Mario 64).

I stoped calling Bowser King Koppa after Super Mario Bros 3.

Peach, I've been call her by her real name ever since I found out thats her name in Japan. I got alot of weird looks when I would call her Peach back during the SNES days. It was just faster to call her Peach then Princess Toadstool.

I see their names just like Psydrogen
Bowser King of the Koopas
and
Princess Peach Toadstool

let us not forget Princess Daisy as well

couldnt they all go together, like first and last names

King Bowser Koopa and Princess Peach Toadstool. I mean the royalty are just titles, and a lot of times the name that follows is the surname. So I'll stick with that.

I say Bowser and Peach, but I remember having a hard time saying either when they decided to change there names. King Koopa sounds too ill.

I say Bowser and Peach now, but when I was younger I knew them as King Koopa and Princess Toadstool. I suppose the princess could be Princess Peach Toadstool. I would also think that King Koopa would be a more formal title.

Bowser is called King Bowser Koopa on the Super Show at some point... and Princess Toadstool's name is Peach.

also, since when did Dr. Robotnik become Eggman? I remember hearing Eggman for the first time in Sonic Adventure (I think) and thinking WTF?

Strell

Eggman was Sonic's derogatory nickname for Dr. Robotnik (given his shape, and I'm sure it was a comment on his demeanor in some sort of "only-makes-sense-to-the-Japanese" way), at least that is how they passed it off to Americans. I beleive Eggman was his original Japanese name, but I could be wrong.

*Notices the irony in discussing Sonic characters in a Mario thread*

Agreed.

I used to think of Sonic and Mario as mortal enemies, but know, more like friendly acquaintances. Why I think of video game characters interacting with each other is a topic for another day...

Bowser since SMB.

As far as peach/Toadstool... I think I used to say Toadstool because I thought it was odd when I saw peach.

I prefer to call them Bowser and Peach. I think of Peach's full name as Princess Peach Toadstool.

According to the Sonic Comic book series Dr. Robotnik and Dr. Eggman are two different characters. And Dr. Robotnik is FAAAR more evil then Dr. Eggman will ever be.

When I was younger: Koopa (I didn't say King) and Princess (I didn't say Toadstool)

Now, it's: Bowser and Peach.

Ditto with the then-and-now Koopa/Bowser. I have always and will always call her the Princess.

It's supposed to be King Koopa and Princess Toadstool but I call them Bowser and Princess Toadstool.

I honestly can't remember where "Peach" came from.
