I've never pre-ordered anything before, and this is what happened when i pre-ordered we (> katamari about a month ago... I got this e-mail from gamestop yesterday:

"This email is to inform you that one or more products listed below from your order ***** has been delayed from shipping. At this time, we do not have a ship date, but your backordered product(s) should be available again within the next 30 days.

If you wish to cancel any GameStop product you may do so by sending us an email at Orders@GameStop.com or giving us a call at 1-800-883-8895. If you send an email, please include your order number.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay.

We value your business and hope to see you again soon.

Best regards,
(yada)(yada)..."

So now my preorder has been switched to a BACKORDER? wtf?!? If you were a victim, too, please vent your frustration....

Hoarders and earlier preorders got the copies first, I'm guessing.

I haven't preordered anything since Pokemon Colosseum after the stupidity of the local Kmart (the only local store doing preorders at the time) left a bad taste in my mouth.

We Love Katamari is backordered indeed (I checked the website hoping a copy would be available in Paducah, KY for when I go visit family in a few weeks)...

I'd like to put people who buy multiple copies of rare games for possible future personal gain in a katamari and send it straight to sticky ball hell.

gamestop is pretty crappy like that when it comes to pre-orders...it has happened to me before too, though i'm not sure on which games, i just know it was a couple of times...i'm pretty sure one was a Dog's Life....anyways, i planned on buying WLK from GS online next week (when the deadline for my 20% off coupon arrives)...though now i'm not too sure what i'm going to do...i'll be able to get WLK for $24 from GS, but I may just say fuck it and get it for $25 at BB...it'll probably boil down to whether or not GS online shows WLK as being in-stock by that time

I haven't pre ordered a game in a long time, I never have problems getting the games I want on the day or a couple days of the release. I even got Ocarina of Time for n64 day of release without a pre order

Hoarders and earlier preorders got the copies first, I'm guessing.

1. I was preordering Suffering and NBA Live 2006 earlier this week at EB. They had copies of WLK laying out. I thought they kept the preorders out of sight.

2. While I could see hoarders making a game scarce for regular customers, how can they affect preorder customers?

3. How could a company produce fewer copies of a game than the number of preorders taken for the game? Once a game is completed in terms of development, the manufacturing process is the simplest step. Preorder customers are guaranteed sales. It doesn't make sense for a company to reject a guaranteed sale.

Where I work, we got 4 copies of WLK, only 2 left at the end of the night, one guy bought 2 of them

Wow that sucks. That's one of the big reason's why I don't pre-order. If you live in a area like mine there are probably 5 stores you could drive to within a 1-2 mile radius that would have the game in stock. I just did a quick search and every local Best Buy lists it as available for pick up around me.

I remember people having trouble getting their pre-orders for Ocarina of Time way back in the N64 days. I drove over to Wal-Mart and got a copy on release day.

The other main reason I don't do pre-orders is I don't like tying up my money way in advance of getting any product or service from it when I don't have to.

Agreed. Plus you aren't sure if someone is going to put the game you pre-ordered on sale or not. Of course RPG's are an exception to this rule (as they rarely if ever go on sale), but for the most part every game is available from several stores, so why preorder?

Sometimes I have the feeling when these companies put out coupon codes for preorders, they knock down everyone on the list to the bottom who preorder with discount codes.

It's a good idea to preorder consoles, though.

At the PSP launch all of the PSP were preordered at both EB Games and Best Buy.

And a funny thing, EB Games opens 2 hours before BB so I drove past the line outside of Best Buy holding my new PSP up to the window. It was awesome.

Target here had *at least* 20 copies, and they filled up two of those shelves that they used.

My guess is that GS online just fucked up.

Cancel your order and go snag it at walmart or somewhere else man.

I pre-ordered this from a Gamestop B&M and the only reason they got more than three copies of this is because I pre-ordered it. I was the only person to pre-order from that store so the only other people that will be playing this game are the employees just like with the first one because no one around my certain area can stand these games.

Funny story: When the first one came out to get little kids from playing the PS2 setup and other consoles (A problem ever since they opened is little kids crowding in to play the systems and not buying anything. Problem because it would be like five of them at each one trying to play) the employees would turn up the volume on the monitor for it with Katamari in the PS2 on pause with the music blaring and they would get upset because they couldn't get it to stop.

Be very careful what you use that coupon on... it will give you the 20% off anything, but if it has some kind of bonus item with it, the Gamestop computer will void it out.

For example, I used the coupon to preorder Digital Devil Saga 2 w/ the bonus soundtrack. The coupon says can't be used with premiums or some BS like that, but it let me order the game + soundtrack no problem for 39.98, I even got the invoice stating this.

Now Gamestop.com, on the order status, shows it as 49.98 + shipping now, and they are trying to tell me it's an error with the coupon code so i'll be charged full price. I'm still having a hell of a time getting them to honor what's on my invoice, since they didn't email me at all about this "error", and instead just tacked on an extra $10. They won't even refund me the coupon code if I cancel, even though it's THEIR mistake.

Just a word to the wise to be careful what you use that coupon on.

i am willing to wait 30 days for the game... any more than that though would just suck, plus my ps2 and i would be really unhappy.... ;)

the thing is, i used a barnes and noble gift card to buy this thing at barnesandnoble.com, that's why target and best buy aren't an option right now.

on top of that,

1. i bought it when it was 26.99 (when they had the 10% thing going on), and had to have them adjust my original order of 29.99 over the phone. (still pending)

2. i asked if they will give me free shipping, i told them i wanted to use freeshipall. since i bought it from barnes and noble, i'm not sure if this will happen or not. (the csr said they will go through all these special requests once they ship the game...which will be forever...something tells me i won't get to use the code...any suggestions?

So they won't tell you if you can have free shipping or not until after they ship the game. Sounds like excellent customer service to me.

Maybe try to convince them to refund your purchase in something other than another gift card. (But I bet they'd really really resist doing that.)

I would be surprised if you ever got it changed... their system seems to be set up to not use coupon codes at all, and then they try to BS their way out of it.

I love the B&M store, but Gamestop.com fucking sucks for customer service.

Christ, I've beaten the game (with casual playing) and found all the cousins . . . with my son . . . he loves it.

I'd be pretty pissed with GS.
