Hey guys N gals..

I just purchased a ps2 yesterday. This is not my first, being that the first one i got was on the day it was released sitting inline outside best buy at 4 am. That ps2 died from a disease called disc read error. That was about 2 years ago so I missed all the games from the past few years.

Yes I am a cag newbie, and yes I have seen this question asked before, but I thought I would go out on a limb and ask it yet again. The other times it was asked the guy pretty much narrowed it down to only first person shooters. More power to him, but why narrow it down where you can’t experience a whole variety of what’s been out there. I value most of your opinions so I’m trusting that you will have some games that I can’t miss.

What games would you recommend as some decent titles to pick up?

Love me the silent hill series, Racing games are great, platformers, fighting, and adventure.

I’m thinking about picking up ICO and Need for speed underground 2.

Any direction I should be directed next?

Avoid NFSU2, sucks. Midnight Club 3 > NFSU2, but Burnout > all.. If you like Silent Hill, check out Cold Fear and Obscure.. the Ratchet and Clank/Jak/Sly Cooper are great platform/adventure games.. and, of course, God of War.

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal would be a great platformer/adventure. I'd skip NFSU2 though. It's pretty dull as far as arcade racers go.

While I love BO3 its not really a "racer." In a way it is but its so wholely different from the rest of the pack, I wouldnt suggest it to somebody who says they like "racers." (not that they cant love it too, its just arcade as hell and most racers are sim)
GT4 is a solid sim game however it didnt seem to break new ground.

Gotta agree with the NFSU2. Game was average at best. And the fact it felt like a damn ad the whole time sucked (youre next race is left of Best Buy across from the BKing)

Rachet/Sly/Jaks are great if you can dig on a platformer.

God of War is fun but its not cheap yet and you have years worth of stuff to catch up on. Save it for later.

With all the games you missed I would look at getting some of the recent price drops or markdown games out there. I been going back and picking up some of the past hits myself lately.

If you have a KBToys near you try and pick up Ratchet & Clank: Up yours Arsenal for $4.99. Also Mercenaries is another one that just dropped to 14.99 at best buy with the $5 McDonalds Coupon. TRU green tags may be worthwhile for Call of Duty at $4.95.

Its a great time to get back into the swing of things almost every store has some nice markdowns with the upcoming next generations.

Have you played Shinobi for ps2? Old school ninja action at its finest.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I think I get the idea that NFSU2 must not be all that great. I was thinking about picking up burnout. I checked out cold fear and obscure and I will definitely be picking up both of those. Thanks for the great tip.

Yeah ill skip NFSU2… anything that is similar with the tuning and racing with similar art style? Maybe just NFSU the original one? Midnight club would probably be good, but the art direction is done in a style that is more reminiscent to an arcade look. Yeah im an artist and I like weird things…

Rachet/Sly/Jaks are great if you can dig on a platformer.

will check these out thanks.

God of War is fun but its not cheap yet and you have years worth of stuff to catch up on. Save it for later.

My thoughts exactly. But this is a title I really want to play, I love mythology and all aspects of it, but I shall wait until its priced for a real cheap ass gamer…

Ohh I forgot about the getaway. Would you recommend playing the first Getaway before the black Monday sequel?

And no I don’t have an xbox or game cube so any more additions would be great.

Woah… I sense some anger over this game here… I will avoid it like the plague.

No I haven’t played that and I will add it to the list.

Thank you all for the great ideas for games…. And I have a lot of catching up to do….:bouncy:

Already been said but I have to jump on the Jak and Ratchet & Clank bandwagon (Haven't played any Sly games yet, but Sly 2 is incoming ATM.)

I recently picked up a PS2 (owned an Xbox for a year and a half). I've played Jak II, R+C 2, and R+C 3. All are simply amazing games (and I assume the rest of the series are just as good.)

You seem to like all kinds of genres, so I'd highly recommend checking out Katamari Damacy. It's pretty short, but very addictive, fun, and pretty unique

Klonoa 2 is another fun game (but very short and the story really sucks). However it's probably pretty hard to find this one for cheap.

You may want to try some of those Eye Toy games if you like party games or exercise. There are Eye Toy Groove, Play 1 &2, and Antigrav.

Get Ico for sure. It's probably the best adventure/platformer I've played and the graphics are up there with even some of the best looking PC titles. And this was a launch title :D
