View Full Version : Resident Evil 4: 5 More Hours of Extra Gameplay!

Looks like Capcom went all out with making the PS2 worthwhile by adding Ada Wong as a playable character...with 5 extra hours worth of gameplay. Sounds pretty sweet, and apparently the graphics haven't taken as big a hit as most would expect.
Looks like I may have to pick it up for my Xmas break. Although, I feel bad for getting this version in lieu of the GC version. =(

Indeed, I refuse to buy this game again, but I want to play that extra part, so I'll have to wait until someone I know buys it, even though I'll be actively persuading everyone I know not to.

Capcom already pissed of a lot of people by port RE4 to the PS2...
Oh well, I still doubt it'll be as great as the GC experience was. A 9 month wait for a few extra hours of gameplay wouldn't do it for me. RE4 on the GC was worth the $50 launch price. RE4 on the PS2 won't be worth $50 me.
Non-GC owning PS2 owners deserve something... a 9 month wait and 5 extra hours of gameplay is better than buying a system for one game.:) Plus, the GC had the advantage of better graphics and I'm assuming load times (I can only image the load times for the PS2 version unless Capcom worked some magic into it).
I'll get this when it hits the $10 mark...LOL

I finished RE4 for the GC, but wasn't even interested in the Ada part. So I don't care if it was expanded or not.. ;)
Fun game, but I expected more due to all the hype.

According to the IGN article, the load times arn't much worse than the GC's on a non-final build. Of course, take that with a grain of salt.
I hope it's easy to unlock, because I'm only renting it.

What a bunch of babys. Capcom rules!
It is about time they release the better Capcom Game Cube Games of PS2 (like Vewtiful Joe), the game-Cube is just too small of a market. Nintendo is an excellent system, but the PS2 is king. Who cares if a the dozen or so GC players are pissed, 400,000 other gamers will be very happy.
Do people complain when Agetec releses yet ANOTHER variation of the same Armored Core, how about Konami Metal Gear Solid Substance (and Subsistence!), Tecmo Ninja Gaiden Black, Sega Super Monkey Ball Deluxe to PS2 and XB, Techu for Activision, what about every new version of sports title that EA brings out hell no!
As far as quality, the reviews already prove the the difference between the basic RE4 game on both platforms is minimal, just like VJ!
Of course, Capcom has a serious case a sequelitis, Imagine Street Fighter II running on PS3.....whatever...

There was an article about this a couple months ago in OPM, I've been excited about it since. I'm not going to pay $40 (the launch price) for it, but I'll probably rent it and then buy it for $10-$15. Resident Evil 4 was the most expensive game I've bought this year (at $30), so I'm not spending a lot to rebuy it.

I'm talking about a publisher re-releasing the same game with some cool extra features mere months after the original release, not sequels.
This is the same thing as the movie industry double dipping in DVD sales with movies like Resident Evil, The Fifth Element, I Robot and many more.

anyone hear anything about EBGames special edition of RE4 for PS2? It says it comes with a metal case, but does that mean it's the same as the gamestop one? If it's a regular collector's case like Doom3 or Splinter Cell:CT then I'll grab it for sure, but I never liked that gamestop one.

I am pissed off about this. I bought the GC version at launch and I think this is tantamount to a slap in the face of everybody else that did. Five exta hours in a 50 hour game like Final Fantasy isn't a big deal. But five extra hours in a 20 hour game like Resident Evil 4 is huge. All I know is there's no way I'm picking up a second copy for the PS2.

I'm still waiting for the GCN version to hit $20. I doubt the PS2 version will be that much better - plus, although it is rare, any type of graphical hit will probably make it a little worse of a game since it is supposed to be so immersive.

I dont think a graphical hit will affect immersion at all, but I do concur that it wont be significantly better. I think at this point I'm comfortable with adding it to my extensive boycott list.

I'm with you (although not necessarily on launch day). I don't like te double dipping either, but at least in RE 4's case, you had to know that there would be extras. Xbox owners have gotten better versions of the GTA series in the past when they got later releases. I'll likely buy the PS2 version cheap if the extras seem worth it (which they do). DMC 3 I will likely get near launch cause I love that series (if it comes here of course).

I don't expect anyone to just take my word on this until I find the link, but the Cube version of Joe absolutely KILLED the PS2 version; after having been out for nine months or so, the cube version actually still outsold the PS2 version the week it released.

As For RE4, Yes I'm buying it on launch. All the extras are worth it and its going at $40 so I'm just going to get the Special Edition of it.
If DMC3 SE comes out in the U.S. I won't think twice before buying that. So far DMC3 was the game that was most worth my money....ever. I have put tons of hours on it so the SE would be awesome too.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom will release Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition for the PlayStation 2 this winter in Japan. Development of the game is reportedly complete, so its release should see no delays.
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition will be an upgraded version of Devil May Cry 3 with a number of new features. The biggest addition revealed thus far is the inclusion of Dante's evil twin, Vergil, as a playable character. While Vergil was briefly playable in the original DMC3, players will now be able to unlock him and play the game from his point of view.
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition will also include a new "very hard" difficulty setting, and a "demo digest" option that allows players to watch cutscenes from the game. The game is expected to be playable at this week's Tokyo Game Show.
Now that the show has begun, Capcom has unveiled its official Web site for Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, showcasing some new artwork from the game, as well as Vergil and his various weapons.

It isn't like none of us knew RE4 wouldn't be coming to the PS2 since last Februrary. Game companies do this all the time. Seeing as how Gamecube has the smallest following of all three consoles, it was simply a business decision. XBOX did the same thing with Ninja Gaiden and Fable....Sony did it with each Metal Gear game. And how about when Gamecube got exclusive dibs on the Resident Evil Remake and Twin Snakes?

I really hate how people complain about companies double dipping like this. I really don't mind. No one is forcing you to buy it. Even with the newer versions coming out, it still doesn't take anything away from your older version. Its not like they are taking away something from you. They add stuff that they think people wanted, and it is up to YOU if you buy it or not. I don't condone what they are doing but IMO, the original RE4, DMC3, MGS2, MGS3, Ninja Gaiden, and any other game that was double dipped has enough content on its own to justify a purchase.
It seems like a trend is starting though. DMC3: SE is news to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of AAA titles followed suit and started releasing special editions of their games. It works for DVDs so expect it to continue onto gaming.
