"Is the PlayStation 3 losing development support?

Rumors are flying high, spreading across a network of Japanese, Dutch, and German websites, that developers are wary of creating content for the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, the article in question is difficult to decipher, but perhaps someone with knowledge of Japanese can give us the clear scoop. There’s also a Dutch article that has a quote in (broken) English: “In the (Japanese) game industry, many people are losing trust in Kutaragi’s non-stop pursue of this evolution, people are leaving PS3 at a rate worse than Nintendo’s GameCube era” (source unknown).

Several developers, like John Carmack, have publicly announced a preference for the Xbox 360. But could that number be growing? The recent cancellation of Condemned for the PS3 seems to suggest as much…"

Fine by me, I have no interest in the PS3 as of this moment, and I have an Xbox 360 on preorder.

Idiotic, first off, the source already states it doesnt have a direct translation so who knows what is really said. Secondly, Japanese developers backing up Xbox 360 over PS3? Get fucking real! The GBA original still sells more in a month than the xbox does in a year in japan.

From what i heard, it seems like xbox360 will be much easier to develop for, but the truth is, especially in Japan, that Sony has a big hold on the market, and it wont easily lose it.

Must agree with Weedy - Sony rules in Japan. There is no way that major third party Japanese developers are going to skip production of games for the PS3. Even if production costs end up being higher for the PS3 compared to the XBox 360, games will be developed - of course, the end user will pay more for those games - aren't people mentioning $60 games at launch?

Sounds like BS to me, of course naturally smaller and more lazy developers are going to prefer 360 due to the lower cost and easy development but they dont really control the industry and what what Weedy said about Japan couldnt be more true. Sony doesnt have anything to worry about when it comes to support.

Given two years of solid development time with either system and I think companies won't be complaining any more.

The PS2 is harder to develope for than Xbox or Gamecube, but that hasnt stop developers from making games.
