Nothing last forever.

And we all know discs are far less durable than carts.

I just hope somebody figures out how to back up gamecube games (all the others are done, right?) before it's too late.

What disturbs me the most is that even if you take immaculate care of your disc theres still no guarantee they will last. Are there any laws that when you buy the game, you only have the liscense for the duration of the original disc?

What a nightmare it would be if you woke up 50 years from now and found out all your PS2,Xbox, or GC games didn't work anymore. As for dvds there are these cases that make it impossible to take out the disc without some degree of bending. It pisses me off that the manufacturers don't know enough to package them better.

Or maybe that's planned obsolescence. After all, if your DVD doesn't work any more, you'll be that much more likely to buy a data crystal of the same movie (or whatever media they'll use in 50 years).

I heard about CD not lasting and can decay like a couple of years ago on a news or technology show.

thats alright, because on the playstation 13, you'll probably be able to buy the whole library of games from the ps1 on one disc, and from the ps2 on another...same goes with the xbox of that time and gamecube of that time

Or can it......... [j/k]

I'm a BIG worrier, and this worries me. Mostly because when I see threads about how ppl with jobs have all these fucking old games and shit, so I think, "Well, there will be a time when I have a job and the new games I have will be old classics, I just gotta hang in there." But now, my dream may be shattered  ...........

They also say that diamonds are a girls best friend, and for that reason they can go fuck themselves.

I also saw soemthing about this years ago. Back then they said it was the ink that was breaking down the CD.

yeah Diamonds don't last forever, take a Geology class and it's a bit of trivia they like to teach you. Debeers just like propaganda so people can justify buying clear rocks.

Its disapointing that this happens to CDs and DVDs.

I'd actually heard of something like this before. Several CD publishing companies were pressing discs improperly when they first started printing CDs. These discs would get disc rot almost no matter how you stored them, because they just oxidized from exposure to air. I had a CD with 'disc rot', and had to return it to the publisher to get a replacement. Kind of irritating, since first-pressings are usually more valuable.

Here's a page describing the 'disc rot' effect.
