right now, the rosters are pretty up to date, but aren't 100%. like someone said, the rookies aren't on there yet and i've noticed a few trades/signings not updated. i'm hoping that by the time we get this thing going, they'll have had another roster update.

It had been discussed, but aparently they decided to buy a house they found and my stuff was being boxed and bagged by the time I got home that Friday. The phone and internet connections were off, and I still don't have broadband since we had to switch from SBC to Verizon DSL. I'm using my friend's dialup.

i really haven't messed with the sliders at all since i started playing the game, so if you have any suggestions i'd be gald to see them and try them out.

and as far as cutting the league off at 20, i'm more than fine with that, but i would like to see how many people are interested and also give everyone from last year's league (who played their games) a chance to come back. but yeah, we know how the larger the teams the more the problems, last year we had to scrap the first iteration of the league because we had a player for every team, and a few people decided not to bother playing.

Hopefully we'll get to use the rookies this year... My copy isn't here yet, but are the rosters going to cut off again at a certain number and not let you choose your reserves, like last year? I had some guys I would have wanted to use that didn't make it to my roster.

Yeah shut that off along with speed burst on after fight, I would leave the offense, defense, and goalie sliders alone.

Also the penalty shot slider should be turned way down maybe 1 or 2 clicks. All the other penalties should also be turned way down.

Speed burst effect and duration should be lowered alot also, and fatiuge should be turned up so the third and fourth line have to play alot.

Watch out with that one. Turn the penalty slider too far down and you get NHL 2005. Hard checks, interference and a complete lack of realistic defense.

I've played many of games at the default sliders when my 3rd line touched the ice maybe once and the 4th line never sees the game, you have to limit speed burst a little at least the amount of time it is active before the player runs out of it.

although Im new to the CheapAss leagues, I definitely think we should leave everything alone on All Star. Momentum sucks, and fatigue: I love having to roll 4 lines (and not having to face Lemieux, Palffy, etc all game.). Line changes, penalties are part of the game.

Just my opinion. And I cant wait to get this thing started!

Sorry my fault, all the leagues I came from were hardcore sim leagues with very realistic sliders and rules. The default setting have always been to unrealistic for my taste, but I will adapt to them.

p.s.
Just dont be mad when I eat people up all day long with breakaways with Fata and Koltsov, because of their speed plus unrealistic default speed burst settings.

what would you guys think if i made the periods 6 minutes? whole games seem to fly by in 2k6, and although adding a minute to each period may not make a huge difference, it would provide a little extra time (though still under 20 minutes total).

We maybe should also have a "Back-up Goalie Rule" were maybe all teams have to use their back-ups a certain number of games in the season, adds a little more strategy to the games and season in a small way.

The way we did it in the one league I was in was you had to play your back-up 20% of the games so in the 82 game seasons we played you had to use them around 18-20 times. If we were going to plat the 26 game season maybe 6 games should be the number.

I like the backup goalie idea. It would add another strategic element to the season. I really like that idea, actually. It would be so fun to plan which games you wanted your backup to play (against the weaker teams, etc). Although I think 20% of the games is too high. How about like 10%?

Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa are out there, those are all really good teams. A lot of people have Ottawa and Calgary going to the finals. Surprised so many people took bad teams and passed most of the Canadian teams over.

In other leagues I've seen in other years, with injuries on, your goalie would get fatigued if he played too much and wouldn't be as good until he rested. Does it work the same way in 2k6 or does he never get tired no matter what?

ok, i just created the league. i slightly adjusted the sliders, but not a ton.

here's a quick run down of all the options:
-26 game season
-top 8 teams make the playoffs
-playoffs are best of 5 series
-6 minute periods
-difficulty: all-star
-one timers: hard

if someone wants to check those settings to make sure i didn't mess anything up, i'd be ok with that.

i like the idea of using your backup goalie, and it's definitely encouraged, but not mandatory. i'll be using my backup goalie, and as far as i can tell at least a few others will.

I've tried that, since logically, that would be the time it would happen, but it doesn't seem to work very often. I'll keep trying.

Yeah, theres no Crosby yet. I'd have waited. There was a roster update for September, but nothing since the season started.

I wouldn't get too worked up. Rookies always come in rated in the 60s or 70s. I doubt that even Crosby would have been given a rating too far above that in his first season.

Besides, the Pens are still pretty stacked.

Pittsburgh doesn't have Crosby, but they still have Morozov and Kraft, who are in Europe now, so it evens out. I don't mind either way myself.

Sorry, but it seemed you scored the same goal 7 out of the 9 goals you scored, it just seemed to me you needed to mix up your game play a little bit more, not just keep going back to what works for a goal 90% of the time. So I think the feedback I left was right on you found a soft spot in the AI and seemed to me you exploited it.

Like I said in a previous post I come from hardcore sim leagues and we always tried to stay away from trying to exploit the sure things in the game.

I've gotten two negative feedback scores for verbal abuse despite the fact that I didn't have a headset plugged in for either game. I normally figure it's kids who are trying to get even for being beat. Worrying about what feedback someone leaves you is a waste of time. It seems to be general knowledge that the feedback system is broken.

It is a bit cheap to do that over and over, but if you do that in real life, you'll most likely score. Try keeping your defensemen in front of the net and use a foreward to go after the puck carrier. Or you can try switching to a more conservative defensive scheme. I think I've scored a couple times that way, but its not something I set out to do. But, people have been scoring goals like that since NHL 94, so you'll also have to do your part in not making it easy. It is cheap to do that continuously though.

Referring to my post about exploits, this guy kept trying to do it for an entire game, its all he ever did. What a loser. Kept it a close game, he took a 1 goal lead and kept skating with the puck behind his own net.

I only have a problem if people are doing it every single time they bring the puck into the offensive zone, which is what this guy tried to do earlier. I lost 5-4, but I didn't have a problem defending against it once I saw it enough times.

You just can't bring your defenseman away from the net and go for the hit, keep them in front of the net, and don't overpursue the puck carrier. You have to play good fundamental defense, just like real hockey, but it is a little too easy. In real life, the defenseman in front would take you the fuck out, and the goalie shouldn't go down that early and overcomitt to the first shot.

I refuse to be a part of the school of "well he keeps letting me score that way, I better find another hole in his defense."

ok, as far as the whole goal controversy goes, let me chime in with my take on the whole thing.

goals like this are ok as long as it's just incidental. i've played games online (mostly in 2k5) where players would just hang out in the corner waiting for that opening to skate in front and score, and regardless of how easy it is to stop, it makes for a pretty boring game. all i can ask is that everyone tries to play a fair game. a good way to deal with this would be to use your headset during league games, that way you can talk about it. other than simply asking everyone to use their best judgement, all i can really say is that we'll deal with a problem if and when it arises, but hopefully it won't come to that.

i don't think i really messed with any of the friction/speed settings, so i don't know. if everyone feels that it's too slow, i can edit the league settings through the league site, which is quite convenient. i should be playing my game tomorrow evening, so i'll let you know.

Good game tonight dude, I was starting to wonder if either of us would ever score a goal, mainly you though. Tonight was the first game I've played in this years version so I didnt expect much. I must say that Detroits team has some nice speed to it, my defenders were getting blown by a bunch. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Well, so far, so good. This is my first time in an online league, but so far a great experience. Almost completed a minor trade as the Sabres with the Bruins and just played a very close game with BigMes. I liked the 6 minute periods and the speed of the game.

Just a heads up to everyone, I'm having some problems with the game. Played three SP games this afternoon and two of them locked up after goals with a disc-read error. This was on my Thomson drive and Samsung drive.

BTW, anyone know a good way to transfer saves between Xboxes? I hate switching rooms and not having the saves I have in the other Xbox.

i'd rather not restart the league, just because we are already almost through the first week of the season, and it looks as though we are going to have every game get played. there are some guys on the wings that i would like to have on my team (i'm using a defensemen as a 4th line forward), but i don't know if it's such a great idea.

so, i'll leave it up to the majority. so far we have:

2 who wouldn't mind
2 who don't really want to

which seems to sway a bit more towards restarting. if a few more of you guys could let me know, i would like to get it figured out as quickly as possible.

The commentary on mine starts to lag severely (it'll cut out for a few minutes, then come in a few minutes behind the actual plays, then cut out, until the end of the game). Played another game today where it happened, but luckily I got through the game. It's just really irritating since it's only with this game and it doesn't seem to depend on which drive I use.

anyways, i think you got a bad copy of the game. i've only had mine freeze once, and that was when i tried to save a franchise after having a fantasy draft. otherwise, i haven't had any problems with the commentary or the game locking up. if you get the chance, you should try seeing if another copy of the game gives you the same problems.

Picked mine up at Fry's at release. Hopefully they'll still allow me to exchange with a receipt. I really hope this works as I really want to stay in the league.

Even though my man Zach Parise was added to the team (an impressive 82 at that), I still don't think we should bother restarting.

On a side note, Parise has 5 goals for me in 2 exhibitions so far lol.

I've determined that just about every way to score is considered cheap by someone. If you stay out to the side and attack when the defenders pull out of position, that's cheap, if you fire long slapshots and try to put the rebound in, that's cheap, if you do more than one one-timer a game, that's cheap, if you score on a wrap-around, that's cheap, if you dare to cut back and forth in some sort of deking motion while avoiding defenders, that's cheap.

I'm finally like fuck it. Just play how you play and don't let people make you feel bad for it. I've read about one fool-proof way to score, but at this point haven't even tried it because it just sounds cheap. It's almost up there with shooting off the back of the net from last year.

If either of you are on a router you should try to disconnect it first if you can and if you already have not tried that yet. I know sometimes I would have trouble connecting after the game setup screen and disconnecting the router always helped me.
