For some reason, Konami made new cover art for the US release of Suikoden. However, you can see the original cover art on the cover of the manual. I can't imagine anyone would think the new art is better. It looks even worse when put alongside the other 3 Suikoden games which all have cover art in the style of the original.

Yay, my first poll. ;)

I thought Suikoden was a wrestling game at first (by looking at the cover) when I was younger of course

I remember buying Suikoden when I was 13 because I saw it at Walmart for oh, say nine bucks.

Wish I could find that again. I believe I also picked up Namco museum volume 5 for about six bucks shortly before that. Man, to have those games again now...(disappeared into the sands of time)...

Suikoden's cover art was horrible. I really liked the game though; I recall being "sick" one day in 8th grade to play it all day. Those consequence-free days were nice.

Honestly, I got my copy of Suikoden used for Christmas, mostly because I didn't care about its condition and it was about to be impossible to find after its initial run. I couldn't have been happier. It was missing the box art but came with the manual in a double-sided jewel case popular for RPGs at the time, so I ended up with a large box great for holding extra demos while doubling the manual as the cover for the game.

And yes, the original box art was quite poor. But, all things considered, it was still around that time where RPGs were only pseudo-accepted and Suikoden not only sounded like a niche title but its 16 bit-ish looks didn't help matters any. I guess Konami just said "well, this art isn't going to sell it...so let's use a generic fantasy novel-esque cover instead!"

Nope. I was thinking it was the cover of a goosebumps book, those books were amazing.

I bought Suikoden when it first came out and can remember my mom and the guy working in the store where I bought it(buy-rite) both making comments about how horrible the cover art was.
