I'm guessing it's a combination of 1) how long since the last post and 2) how long since you've read the thread. Anyone know the exact details?

It's whether or not there is a new post in the thread isnce the last time you visited the forum.

Are you really that thick?
A thread is bold if it has an unread post, and if it's old it won't be bold.
When you leave the site and come back it might have some topics bold even though you have read all the messages. That is a glitch.
