All of mine I've had to scan a copy of the upc and then mailed that in along with a form you can print of ebgames.com.
As for the sale, there's some good points, but mostly on older games and trade-ins. Where's my $20 games with a $20 voucher!

Three "qualifying games". I wonder what that means exactly. This may be an awesome deal cause cant you just put 3 games towards the $50 pre-order and then just cancel it and get the credit instead?

YMMV. A more important question is, does GT4 still get ~$28 in GR credit like it did 3 months ago when they ran this same offer? I can't imagine how many copies of this game EB must have to be running the same offer on an older game twice in the same quarter.

Does it really matter what GT4 gets anywhere else? Can't you just cancel it/return it/whatever to get $49.99 credit at EB?
I've done it with preorders (NBA Live, Nascar, Suffering) I'm assuming "qualifying games" would mean PO, not POX.

As I said, YMMV. I've never tried it, but there was a big discussion about it before, sometimes you'll have success, sometimes not. Its also not a preorder, so there's no cancelling involved, you'd have to hope they give you the value on your receipt, not the original trade in values.

i didn't see this, but on the flyer i got at eb today this coming week they have b3g1 free going on.
which i'm thinking i'm going to take advantage of on GBA games. i saw 2x Aria of Sorrow, 2x Harmony of Dissonance, and a Tactics Ogre. i was thinking of picking up both both Arias, a Harmony, and TO, and sell one of the Arias on ebay. i think it would come out to $90 and if they add 10% off $81 plus tax. worth it?

I would have picked them up at the B2G1F last month, but I didn't know about the EB 30 minutes away with god-like PO game stock. B3G1F just doesn't sound that tempting.

So basically I can get 35% extra credit if I trade in 3+ games toward a 360 game. I might have to check that out.
Edit: Are trades for a working Xbox still at $75? With the $10 bonus, that would push it to $85. But they are only selling the used system for $99.

I can't wait until Friday when I get these puzzled looks from EB employees that have no idea what I'm talking about and no idea on how to complete the trade in deal (ie. Tiger Woods 2006).

Wow, Psychonauts finally dropping in price. And NBA 2K6 with a $10 gift voucher, meaning I could buy NBA 2K6 and Psychonatus for only $60! Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
So wait, I could trade in Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and MGS3, and get GT4 for free? Could I then take it to Wal Mart, say I lost my receipt, and get the full price refund? Is this standard operating precedure around here?

Yes, and there is a POX list thread in deal discussion . . .
This is a YMMV situation. Some have reported that when they went to return the game (happened to me at one store) they would only give them the pre-deal values.
When the GT4 was active, they valued the game at $34.99 (it was selling for $39.99) . . . despite what the receipt said, I got back $39.99 for the 3 copies I returned. $120 for 9 $5 games . . . not a bad return.
I'll likely do it twice this time around.

No I think most CAGs draw the line at "returning" things at stores where they weren't purchased—semantitically different from "flipping" and "taking advantage of stupid-ass EB/GS/BB/GR trade-in deals".
Plus, I hear most of the big retail chains aren't giving refunds for receipt-less games.

I could give the game to my mom, and she could make a big enough fuss at Wal Mart (she has no self respect), that Wal Mart would give her $49.99 back. And how would the "flipping" method work? If I tried returning it for full price, I would have to show them the receipt saying I got it for free by trading in 3 games, wouldn't the EB employee just laugh at me and say "yeah right"?

If you request a Gift Receipt when trading in for GT4, will there be any evidence of the trade-in on it? Just wondering, since that may make it easier to return without any problems.
mick16
10-12-2005, 10:55 PM
The last time I did the trade in deal was for Midnite Club III (traded it in Forza Motorsport) a couple of months ago, and at that time, the gift receipt didn't have any evidence of the trade in. I just usually waited a day or two and then traded back the pre-orderd game at a different EB Games store along the gift receipt for something else.

The EBgames web site does show the GT4 deal today... and you get it for $39.99 (not the reduced price of $34.99 like last time). Limit 1 per customer :-) and while supplies last.

Medal of Honor: Frontline ($2 brought up to $13.33)
Bad Boys ($3 brought up to $13.33)
Midway Arcade Treasures 1 ($2 brought up to $13.33)
FREE GT4.
Got MOH at GameStop (Pre-Owned) for $4 and Bad Boys and MAT1 at Best Buy for $5.
Got a gift receipt too. But at the top of the gift receipt it says "Pre-Played". I wonder if this identifies the item as being part of a Pre-owned deal???

Did the GT4 deal (3 times) the deal is listed on the sale flyer and was posted in the PS2 games section. It was also automatic in the system.
Traded in: w normal tradein values (without the increase)
MidwayAT 1 Xbox 2.00
Rocky PS2 1.50
Ninja Gaiden 5.00
MaxPay 2 PS2 1.00
StrikeFBowl PS2 1.00
True Crime GC 3.00
Scrapland 1.50
Driv3r xbox 2.00
Bad Boys PS2 3.00
Normal tradein value $20 . . . got: $120 worth of games that are going back on Monday ;-).
My out of pocket . . . $22 in cash . . . $17.50 in EB credit and Ninja Gaiden doesn't count.
I got Ninja Gaiden on a tradein deal on release 5 games in but also got a $10 voucher . . . anyway, I just order NG Black for $20 PO from EB.com . . . so, I spent $7 in EB credit to trade up to Black.
Plus, it had taken awhile to pick up my last Ndogs from the GBA tradein deal . . . I returned it today and got back $35 instead of $30 (apparently they raised the price).
Man, I will miss EB when GS takes over.

Hopefully someone will console me so I'm not depressed all night....
The good news: FF: Mystic Quest, Zelda: Link to the Past, FF2 for a total of $15.
The bad news: Due to a combination of not planning on spending too much money and the clerk being incredibly generous, I declined Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger for a total of $35. He offered to show me his stash in the cabinet, which also included FF3 (which I have as mint as it can be after purchasing it ten years ago or whenever it came out). He breathed a sigh of relief when I passed, but I kicked myself the entire walk home. Though my fiancee was happy I didn't buy them...

I'm planning on getting MC3 with the proceeds of this deal . . . when it drops in price anyway.
Now one could get MC3 for $45 PO . . . $34ish after codes online.
Ideally, would take the $40 in credit from one of these tradeins and buy God of War, MC3, and, say, RE4 for $13.50 each when they reach the $20 point. After the games are $20 new the used price is $17.99 (use codes EDGE, CAG15, SAVER to get a game like that for $13.50 plus tax shipped free).
Requires patience but that way GOW, MC3 and RE4 would cost $40 in credit which was acquired from 3 $5 games from BB . . . making the above games (through the GT4 return) $5 each of cash . . . that's cheapassness.
What to do while waiting for the drops? Play the ton of other games I have gotten through CAG deals.

I can confirm that it is in-store, but not sure about online. However while working today at EB we got this e-mail from corporate
EBgames is NO longer going to be taking in trade ins on SNES, NES, PC GAMES, NGAGE Games, and Dreamcast Games effective Monday October 17, 2005. I just got back from EB, the 50% off classic games seems to be in store only. The sale is in the coupon ad and not the usual sale ad that can be seen online. So i picked up:
NES - Knight Rider - $1.00
NES - Low G Man - $1.00
SNES - Indiana Jones Greatest Adventure (in box with instruction manual) - $3.00
SNES - Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble - $9.00
The manager said that they are getting rid of all systems prior to the Playstation because they are getting prepared for the upcoming merger with Gamestop at the end of the year. Thats why we are seeing the clearance in the old stuff.
Also, the manager told me to keep on the lookout for an upcoming PC game sale because becuase Gamestop doesn't stock PC games. I'm pretty sure he meant used PC games, but you never know.

oh yeah, and my eb didnt even know about the gt 4 thing. I asked them about it and the guy said he never heard of it and they arent offering that sale. I figured id just get the 25% extra on the trade in value of the games, so the guy starts to scan them. Then, i look down and there's a flyer that has the deal right on the front page. The 50% is taken off at the register, so for instance Astyanax was marked $1.99, but they then reduced it to $.99. Also a bunch of games come up different then they are marked, like Little Nemo was marked $5.99, but was only $3.99, and then was reduced to $1.99.

Well, you can get free shipping on all used games. Just put SAVER code in your shopping cart. You also get 15% off used with CAG15 code. If you have an Edge card ($5 per year), you also get 10% off with your EDGE #. 25% off and free shipping means I use my ill-gotten store credit online!
The free shipping includes all items in the order . . . so, most of us will add a cheap used game (SNES, GEN, PS1, N64) to get "free" shipping on our new stuff.

$40 isn't bad for an old SP.
Buying games with the 25% off using store credit is a cheap way to get games.
I always figure that my store credit costs less than half its value. Say, $5 spent for every $10 in credit.
It goes something like this: I was tempted to buy Ninja Gaiden Black for $30 when it came out, but by waiting a few weeks they had it online for $26.95 . . . after 25% off it was $20.24 plus tax. $20 in EB credit is like $10 out of pocket.
The game arrived complete but with some light scuffs on the disc . . . I was able to swap it instore for a minty used one.
i was really hoping to find KOF 99 or Evolution or Fatal Fury but no such luck.
What's the deal with the Halo 2 headset? I find it online for 39.99 with the puck, but it doesn't say anything about a voucher.

EDIT: Wait, let's say I had a new game in my cart with a pre-played game.
Can I use the 25% and free shipping on both games in my cart?
The free shipping will span the order. However, the 25% off will only work on the pre-played game. You'll pay full price on the new game and 75% on the used game.

In your cart, you add discount codes . . . CAG15 gets 15% off . . . your edge # (if you paid $5 per year) get an extra 10% off . . . SAVER gets free shipping if a used game is in your order.
I can't use my Edge card online . . . you can use instore credit which is on the Edge card (whether you paid $5 to get 10% off or not) to put credit on a Gift Card which can then be used online (you must have a pin # to do online orders).

I guess it's YMMV (some have had trouble). At my EB, they take the game back, process my receipt, and then put the return on a Gift Card ($39.99 each plus $2.04 tax that I didn't pay in the first place :-))
So, $126.09 in credit coming from less than $50 in spending . . . LOL

Went in for one last browsing of the classic games... just picked up a few stragglers, left FF3 for some else to find. Maybe if they discount them more at some point before sending them to the warehouse I'll pick it up to trade or eBay. Of course, if anyone wants cart-only FF3 and wants to trade one of the Lufias or something else comparable for it... ;)
Got:
ActRaiser (SNES) - $2.99
Dragon Warrior (NES) - $2.99
And, uh... Super Valis IV (SNES) - $0.99 -- hey, it's an Atlus game! I had to see what all the fuss was about :P

Anytime where they give you back cash / or store credit that you walk out with they will always ask for information, and its also the same when you trade in games. However when you do a even exchange or exchange something where you are paying more they don't ask for any information.
OK, tenzor, maybe you can help with this Namco $25 gift voucher deal. As you know, they feature Pac-Man World 3 prominently on the flyer for the $15 and $25 gift vouchers (and not just on the extra 10% trade-in for Namco titles). The voucher deal ends Nov 5th, and Pac-Man World 3 comes out Nov. 16th. So I assumed you could use a preorder for it.
So I buy 3 Namco games - Dig Dug DS, We Love Katamari, and the Pac-Man World 3 preorder (fully paid for) all on the same receipt. The register then prints up a rebate receipt and form to mail in - just showing the $15 for two games AND requiring the UPC's from the games (ARRGGHHH!). However, I was thinking of using the form in the store flyer, which simply says to send the original receipt and nothing about UPC's. Hopefully with that I can get the full $25 as well, since I did get 3 games. This is what I did with the GTA:SA $10 voucher and it worked perfectly. If they don't send me the rebate soon, I'll send in the register rebate form and rebate receipt on the last possible day (taking my chances by not including the UPC's).
Of course, the flyer says to "See Sales Associate for a complete list of eligible games" - he didn't know squat about the deal, and said the Pac-Man World wouldn't even be in his register system until it is delivered, so that's why it didn't come up on the rebate receipt.
Oh well - no biggie if they send me the $15 instead of $25. I was going to get all 3 games anyway (better get that shirt with Pac-Man World anyway!).

I dropped by Jefferson Point EB today after job interview. I got Super Metroid for $10. I didn't see much else. Though I am thinking of picking up a dreamcast. They had a few regular ones and a black sports one. The black one had something rattling inside so I definitely won't get that one.
The Namco deal link is back up on EB's web site (of course it wasn't anywhere to be found when I was trying to figure out which games to get yesterday):
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/vom/oct05/
Pac-Man World 3 is clearly indicated on there. If you do this deal, get the rebate submission form from the store because it doesn't require UPC's. I sent mine in today - we'll see what happens. The rebate form that prints with your purchase, and the web one linked on the page I posted, both require UPC's.
In some ways this is better than the TRU Buy2Get1 because I can use EB trade credit, and it includes a DS game (Dig Dug) and a preorder (Pac-Man World 3) that I wouldn't be able to get at TRU (with the deal). There are a ton of other games that qualify (Soul Calibur II and III, Xeno II, Tales of Symphonia, various 'museum' collections, etc).

It should work but YMMV. As you get GT4 ask for a gift receipt. Then return a day or two later and return it for store credit and say you want Blitz instead . . . even trade.
You will have a new receipt for Blitz that shows payment with store credit . . . use it to submit your rebate.

Nice hustle.
There's a place in Etown, KY where you can buy 6 PO games for $25.
Trade in for 2 GT4s for 2 Blitzs. Have 1 rebate go to your home and 1 to your workplace or relative's.
Blitz (PS2) is going for $35 on eBay. So, turn $25 cash into $70 cash and $20 in rebates.
<Sigh> I am but a simple apprentice to masters like you.
Just curious. How hard is it to return a sealed game from store 1 to store 2 for $50 store credit? It'd make the turnaround time on the hustle drop to 1 hour from 24 hours.
I got denied on a GT4 deal today - "we can't do it" says the clerk. Then the manager mumbled something about the 1 per customer and something, I think, about telling me about that (which they definitely didn't do). I tried to get 2 a few days ago at another store, 30 miles from this one, and was only allowed one. I was perfectly fine with that since it does say one per customer in the flyer.
At the store I went to today, I had gotten one several days back on the first day of the deal. They remembered me from then, apparently, and wouldn't let me get another today. I have not returned or cancelled anything at this store, so they have no reason to dislike me :D. This store always has the same guys working in it and I have always thought we were on good terms. Guess I ain't going there any more though. It didn't take a second for them to cut me off from the deal - like they had my mugshot or something :D. Definitely not a pleasant experience. So I went in to Gamerush where they've always been friendly to me, and did a trade 2 for preorder deal, no problems... I guess my business goes back to GR again (I had been leaning towards EB more recently).

EB definitely needs to strictly enforce the 1 per limit or not put it in the flyer/computer/training/etc at all.
For example, I hit four EBs on a consistent basis.
Some details are obscured for the sake of anonymity.
Store #1's lower level employees have to have the deals explained to them before they know about it. Something on the order of "see customer for details". They enforce the 1 per limit. Their manager lets me trade in as many titles as I want for preorders so long as the PO titles are unique.
Store #2's employees and managers let me preorder 1 title per deal. For example, I can order 1 PS2, 1Xbox and 1NGC NBA Live 06. They've explicitly told me that I can complete more preorders the next day.
Store #3's employee (I've only seen him/her working there) is just like store #1's employees. At first, I thought he/she was snooty, but, on my third visit, I got a good enough read from him/her to realize he/she just isn't that bright. I was trading in 8 PO games (3 for GT4, 5 for TW06) and he/she just couldn't figure out which games I wanted to trade in for which deal. Damn! Like it would really matter.
Store #4's employees and manager are golden. They let me trade in as many titles as I want for preorders or deal so long as the PO titles are unique on a per day basis. I've specifically asked the manager if he/she will get into trouble with his/her higher ups for completing all of the deals I run through there. He/she just shrugs and claims he/she hasn't heard anything yet.

The 25% extra trade in credit and the GT4 deal are seperate. With the 25% extra trade in credit deal, you get 1.25 times the credit they normally give on games if you trade in 3 or more.

Usually a $49.99 game will get you $25.00 trade in credit
-Exceptions are for big title games (i.e. Madden 2006, Socom 3, Halo 2) those titles for the first week or 2 will get you $30.00 trade in credit
$39.99 games will get you around 17.00 trade in credit, sometimes they can even be $20.00 or $15.00, but $17 is the average.
$29.99 games get about $10.00-$12.00
$19.99 games get $5.00-$7.00
however that is just a estimate, but sometimes they can be lower due to the company having too many copies etc.

I just pick up my 7th and 8th copies of GT4 . . . I'm planning on stopping at 10.
30 games for $400 in credit . . . too bad I don't want a 360.
It's so impossible for me ;_;

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but I'm pretty happy with my deals.
For $30.70 in cash I will have gotten $127.17 in EB credit.
Thanks to deals like $0.01 Promo version of MAT2 at TRU and $4.99 THUG2 at BB (Free after BBB). And I owe it all to CAG... I thought I was cheap before I found CAG... Now I realize that I was just an amateur.
There is nothing like the power of all of us CAGs sharing our scams . . . um, ideas. Now take that EB credit and spread it out on $5-$15 games and you will really get some great stuff from the $30 down.
Right now, EB credit is pretty much how I get my games.

Who is in the avatar Tenzor?
All these were PO for the GT4 deal:
Midnight Club Racing II PS2
NBA Street Vol 2 PS2
Strike Force Bowling PS2
Bad Boys Miami Takedown PS2
Pro Bass PS2
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 PS2
Time Splitters 2 GC
Traded in Bad Boys, Pro Bass, and Midway Arcade Treasures 2. I only got a regular receipt showing how much I would of gotten for each game, then each game bumped up to $13.33. Would I be able to exchange this for a game of equal value with the receipt I have?

It's going to be tougher. I would make sure in the future you ask for a gift receipt so it just gives them the value of the game and doesn't show how you got that game. ;)

Thanks for the advice. I did another trade in for GT4 and made sure I got a gift receipt this time around.

Does anyone live in Michigan that knows if getting a copy of GT4 and then trading it back in for $39.99 credit with a gift receipt works at any EBs around Livonia/Westland/Redford area? Thanks. :D

On the back of the receipt:
With a gift receipt, you may receive an exchange or a gift card of equal value.

I returned 2 and they offered me cash back. I just wish I had started abusing this a little sooner.

Arg, I wish I would have know this method sooner...would have used GT4 to get DDR Extreme 2. Oh well, maybe this promotion will come up again soon...

Wow - that is unusual. They usually give you a gift card.

Wow, so my 30 PO games (my cost, under $150) would have netted $400 in cash!
That's alright, I actually prefer the EB credit I picked up because then I can spend it on games . . . if I had gotten cash, I would spend it on my kids or my house (or my wife would claim it :-) )

That's why you don't tell your wife what you did until you've already used the money.
As far as getting cash goes, the first time they offered me cash I just asked for shadow of the colossus instead(they didn't even take down all my info). I returned my other one for cash yesterday and used that to get a game and a wireless controller at BB with my BB-bucks.
I did this because the wife was going to kick my ass if I spent any money this week. I just traded in a game at Gamestop and got my 3 PO games there.

Not bad, although with my system all these packages arrive in the mail but my wife knows that I use EB credit so she can't give me shit for the hundreds of dollars of stuff that comes.

Well, I did the deal 9 times at like 6 different EBs. I gave them some good stuff too, like sealed LOZ:WW, Suikoden IV, MGS:TS, etc etc. Anyways, I've returned 3 (got cash for one of them), gave 3 to one friend to return, gave 2 to another friend to return, and I'm going to keep the 9th one.

Is the trade-in deal for GT4 over now or what? My EB is telling me that it's done by they didn't try to do it on their system. Please let me know - I have 6 games here I was hoping to get rid of!

Since the Zelda deal ends tomorrow, I'm gonna scrounge up some games tonight and do one last pre-order tomorrow. I have a feeling this is the last great trade in deal we'll see this year.
I love this deal because it's so easy to transfer the credit to another game just by complaining that it's been delayed so long.

How difficult is it to do this? Wouldn't EB be able to tell from the receipt that it was a preorder deal specifically for Zelda?

I did this a bunch of times and got some new games for cheap. Unless they remember how you got the pre-order or you are foolish enough to mention it, they won't be able to tell how you got that pre-order by looking at it on their computer.
I usually just changed the pre-order a few days later when somone different was working. They never even questioned it.
