I'm regretting selling my box and want to rebuy to play HL2 BF 2 Ninja Gaiden Black KOTOR 2 and Far Cry among some others. I don't necessarily want a 360 because I want to wait a few months to see how it does. I'm thinking once it releases the first one will drop and hopefully the games will too. Does anybody remember how quickly the ps1 dropped after the Ps2 came out? I'm hoping maybe I can get a box for 60-80 used once the 360 launches

It won't affect it at all most likely, this has been discussed numerous times before. The Xbox won't be supported at all once the 360 hits and the system will just fade away without any reductions on price. I believe production on the original Xbox has already been halted or will be in the near future.

I believe it won't effect the price of the original xbox at all.

I do expect the number of topics about the 360 to increase even more dramatically as the launch appears closer though.

I'm betting if MS screws everybody and the 360 isn't backward compatible to many games it may actually keep the xbox at its price point for a long time

When xbox 360 comes out, the first xbox will still be supported. I am pretty sure about that, might see around 40 or more games come out for it. Not to mention price drops on a few games, it aint going away that quick.

The Xbox just rose in price with that Forza/Xbox bundle.

I remember reading somewhere that M$ still loses money on every original Xbox they sell and may not lower the price of the Xbox any further. As already discussed they stopped production already I believe in July. The first Xbox was more of a Trojan horse to get into the home console market and be considered a legit company to make home consoles. The Xbox 360 is where they plan to start getting enough market share to make money. They knew going in the first Xbox was going to lose money and now they want to cut their losses and move on.

I think its already had an affect on the price you can get a used Xbox for now, just not retail price. If you dont mind picking it up from a CAG, the prices have been dropping with people selling xbox bundles as they save up for a 360. Once the 360 is out, i think you should be able to find some sweet bundles, but like others said, retail wise i dont think you will see a big difference.

There will not be any official price drop as, has been stated before MS loses big time per unit, so you won't see any across the board price drop for the brand new Xboxes....but many retailers, such as Target, TRU, Best Buy and Wal-mart are sure to drop the prices to remove them from their inventories for the new 360 product. The old Xbox takes a great deal of shelf space, and shelf space for a retailer is gold. And of course similarly, there will be a flood of Xboxes traded in and sold as the early adopters move towards the 360, despite the games still being with the current gen.
