View Full Version : Playing multiple games at a time

I'm curious as to where people stand when it comes to playing more then 1 game at a time. Now, this is only something I've started really doing recently, like in the past year. It's somewhat of a good thing, but also a terrible thing.
See, right now I'm playing SLAI and Raze's Hell. That's enough as is, but I'm already wanting to go ahead and start on a RPG. Funny, I had just finished Xenosaga a few days ago, but I already want to jump onto another game! And even before Xeno, I had finished Baiten Kaitos. It's gotten to a point where I can't remember what I played, or finished last.
It does seem that the common consensus here is to play more then 1 game at a time, but sometimes it really feels like overkill. I think the reason why I have gone RPG nuts is that I had mainly been playing RPG's very slowly, about 1 game every 2-3 months. I had around the same free time as I do know, I just kept at it slowly, 1 title at a time. I can't remember what game triggered me, but I just went berserk at the thoughts of RPG's and have been playing them constantly since. (I think it was Shadow Hearts Covenent that made me psycho!)
I better kill this before it gets longer. When it comes to just finding something to play, do you tend to almost go on gut instinct, or plan things out?

Simple, gut instinct.
Who doesn't want to play what they feel like?

I'm playing about 50 games at the same time right now.
My now playing stack is bigger then many peoples collections.

I do it. I usually don't mind it if I play a handful of games that I know I will have time to play/finish. I try not to lump up a handful of games that are all 30+ hours or even 40+ hours. Right now I am working on Trauma Center (DS), Castlevania: DS and if I have the time for it, Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker.
It's hard to be playing one game at a time when there are so many fun ones out :)

I play what I feel like playing, which means I haven't finished many games at all.

I play multiple games at one time just to get through my backlog quicker. Also, sometimes I feel like playing one type rather then another. I usually don't have a problem remembering where I am in a game either. I do seem to forget the plots of RPGs rather quickly after I've beaten them. I think this is just from constantly having a RPG in my now-playing stack.
What I do is I play a action game, RPG , and a sports game. When I get stuck , or want a change of pace I just switch it up.

Same thing here I never play anything from the same genre. Playing two RPGs at one time would be too much. I usually have an RPG sports game and a action/fps game running at once.

I normally have one game that is story driven be it a Action game like Zelda or a RPG like Final Fantasy. And they I have a couple pick up and go games that I don't have to worry about story or anything. Mostly Fighting, Puzzle, Raceing, FPS or simple action games.

My collection is worth more than the yearly economic output of probably 1,000 turd world citizens.

Yeah, I try to mix up genres too, for those times I might get stuck in one game, I can just go to another. I think it's important to have a relaxing game, otherwise it gets tiring. I found that out with Raze's Hell and SLAI, fun games, but hard. I went ahead and started on Golden Sun LA last night. I have a feeling those 2 will be put on hold for a while.

I am currently playing Catlevania CotM, Rebelstar Tactical Command, Burnout Revenge, Metal Gear Solid (remake), and I am going to start Untold Legends as soon as it arrives (will probably have beaten Castlevania by then).

I only play maybe 2 or 3 games at a time, because I like to finish. A friend of mine however, often plays 2 games simultaneously. That is to say, while he is playing FFxi on the PC, he'll be playing single player RPGs like Breath of Fire 4 on the PS1, while waiting for a party or something. Once, when he was short on gil, he played FFxi on his PS2 (selling teloports), WHILE in a party on his PC. Madness!

I usually play 2-4 at the same time. Right now I'm playing Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and Battlefield 2. I also just started Ultimate Spiderman and I'll probably start Castlevania: DoS soon. Plus there are several games I have started and need to go back and finish. Damn backlog is starting to get out of control.

I play action/adventure and shooting type games. I hardly ever play an RPG and I dont even own a sports game.
I occasionally play racing games (Burnout 3 is the last one I played...and the only one this year besides F-Zero GX).
So basically, I play them until I get to a really hard part or get bored, switch up with a different game and then switch to another game and then maybe go back to that first game if I'm up to it...otherwise I start another game.
I actually do finish games this way
Actually...almost every PS2 and GC game I own I have beaten...besides the few RPG's I own...I just get so far in those and due to low level I cant go any further, so I quit.
I got this scenario from what I am doing now:
Played Ikaruga (I WILL get through without using continues :headache: so I have moved on to Alien Hominid which I just bought and then to Star Ocean: TTEOT, and now to Silent Hill 3 and I don't know if I'll go back to one of the games I already started, or start a new one :)

I usually play a whole bunch of games at once. Right now I'm playing Burnout Revenge, Mario Superstar saga, Castlevania COTM, Zelda OoT, Ultimate Spiderman, Kingdom Hearts, various sports games, trying to finish Jade Empire, and a few other games that I can't think of right now.

I used to play one game at a time but now I play one game per system.

I generally play one game for each system and just pick up what I feel like. However, I'm generally compelled to sit down with one game and beat it so I keep moves/story/etc fresh in my head.
Though, ever since I got WoW, I havent done much console gaming.
I usually play 2 games at the same time. If a game really hooks me in I may play just 1, but most of the time I like to have 2 going to mix it up.
If I start to play more than 3 at once there just isn't enough gaming time to make much progress on any of them.
Over the past few weeks I've played Fight Night 2004 + FFX to FFX + Sly 2 (heavy on the Sly 2) to FFX + Castlevania: LOI (heavy on FFX) to C:LOI + Arc the Lad: Twilight (heavy on Arc over the past few days)
I'm considering dropping C:LOI in favor of Devil May Cry. But if I do, Lament will probably not be picked up again.
Actually...almost every PS2 and GC game I own I have beaten...besides the few RPG's I own...I just get so far in those and due to low level I cant go any further, so I quit.
Not a fan of seeking out battles just to level up, eh? I agree with that one. A couple reviews I read of Arc said it's 'easy' which I take to mean you don't have to force yourself to level up to get through it. Sounds good to me.

I usually play more than one at a time, but make sure to set aside time mainly for one. Once I start finishing the one I focus on more, I start putting more time into the next game... and so on... I find it alot easyer to do it this way. I don't really lose track of anything, and it breaks up the time accordingly pretty well.

I usually play 2-3 games at a time. I have my epic, story driven RPG/Action/Adventure/whatever type game and then I have an arcadey type game (i.e. racing, sports, puzzle, etc.) This way, I can choose what type of game to play depending on how much time I have. RPG's for hours, or arcadey for less than an hour.

I play what whatever I feel like playing at the time. Normally it is 2-3 games. Now I am playing Castlevana: DoS, Trauma Center, and Ninja Gaiden Black. I don't normal finish my games though, last one I finished was Resident Evil 4.

Well...I played through Golden Sun while Playing Skies of Arcadia on my Dreamcast...and when I say "while playing..." i mean quite literally having by GBA on fight while my ship flew for a bit, and switching back and forth. Worked pretty good for those two :)
