**HIGHLY SPECULATIVE, UNCONFIRMED RUMOR** (JUICY)

This comes from a Best Buy employee.

--supposedly best buy is going to be able to release the xbox 360 before anyone else... but i haven't been able to find out an actual date
--ive heard that best buy will get an exclusive release before the 22nd
--but i don't know for sure, and i don't know how much sooner
--i've heard the 15th, i've heard the saturday before the 22nd
--microsoft rep mentioned it to me
--and i heard it from a buddy'
--but i haven't gotten any info from best buy on it

I just want to see the ebay prices if this is true

That would be cool. They are doing the Reward Zone pre-order thing like they did with the PSP. I just got the email from customer care saying it would happen but they didn't know when.
I find it odd that on Bestbuy.com they only have the Core System listed, no Premium. Anyone else think that's odd?

How about.... no f'in way.

Sega burned a ton of bridges when they did the early release at just EB, GS and TRU. No way in HELL is MS going to burn Wal Mart, TRU, GS/EB, Target, CC, Game Crazy, Media Play etc.

I can safely say this is one internet rumor that is complete bullshit.

ehh u never know, it could be some sort of hype tool or maybe giving special things to each store

I wonder if I should try to pick up the 360 at Best Buy. It would be a great Rewards Zone points opportunity.

PittsburghAfterDark

They aren't going to give any retailer a couple of days or a week of product exlusivity.

Complete bullshit.

Do you know what the marketing and purchasing people at Wal Mart alone would dish out as punishment? You think they'd take kindly to losing say 50-75,000 sales at an average of $500? Sales they don't have to discount, take losses on or market heavily?

No fucking way this is true. This poster pulled this out of his ass. Wal Mart wouldn't be alone in telling MS to go fuck themselves. Every major gaming outlet would unleash hell over this. Best Buy isn't close to being the biggest swinging dick in the gaming world. They don't have this kind of pull and MS would never want to see what the results of such a decision would be if they screwed over 90% of their retail partners.

The only way I could see this being true is if the retailer was Walmart, but even still, it doesn't make much sense...unless Mountain Dew had a store...

They do have a store. It's called Circle K. Seriously, you can't go into a Circle K where I live and not be bombarded with Mountain Dew posters, frozen drinks, and 12-packs everywhere.

My source on this is reliable. He's not the type to go spouting off stuff if he didn't have any basis for it, so he must have heard something. It's probably just some Rewards Zone pre-order thing, or it could be the MS rep is completely full of shit, which wouldn't surprise me.

Or your source is.... full of shit.

No MS rep would make such a claim. Peddle your snake oil elsewhere sonny.

i could see them doing double reward zone points and releasing it at midnight instead of making people wait till the next day.

Well, I certainly don't want to claim this is true or false...but when I was in GameStop yesterday, the manager there was talking about how Best Buy was going to be selling it a week early. I didn't bother going to BB to see if they would verify it since I really don't care if they release it early or not, but it seems kinda interesting that the guy mentioned that and this is up as well.

"Strange things are afoot at the Circle K." There.... I feel better.

On topic, I highly doubt this is true.....potential (probable) nightmare if it is.

Why would Microsoft want to piss off all their other retailers along with all of the people who have their 360's preordered anywhere but Best Buy? Best Buy would have to pay Microsoft a lot of jack to get exclusivity.

my friend walked into a circle K the first day it opened and will never go back. The %#$#$ manager said she tried to steal an item even though they paid for it. they pulled her over to the side of the store waited for everyone to walk out and they said they Stold an item from the store. I told her if i was there i would called the cops on my cell phone and Arrested the manager for holding them in the store and forcing them to stay there.. I would of also sued the #$#$ out of the manager

I heard the same thing from a Gamerush employee but I call BS. The consequenses with all the other retail partners is far too great for it to happen.

Well, called the BB that the GameStop guy claimed would be putting them out early, and they said that they'd be putting them out on the 22nd, as usual. So at least for here, that rumor is debunked.

Do you think think the retailers will really care as long as the shipments they receive sell out? The retailers don't care if the competion gets a jump on the game as long as they all get the same amount of units to sell. I don't understand how people constantly bring
emotion into business discussions. The only way retailers will be pissed off is if Microsoft gave BestBuy ten times the amount of 360s than the other guys. In fact, it would be a good idea to wait a few days to put them on the shelf. K-Mart did this with the PSP. I walked into the Greenburgh, NY store and found 15 brand new PSPs a few days after launch. Most other stores were sold out or were well on their way to being sold out and K-Mart all of a sudden has them. They knew, people didn't think about K-Mart when buying games or systems but they planted themselves firmly in my mind after buying a PSP from them. And no, they weren't there on launch day since I stopped there after I went buy EBgames.

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

The retailers would most certainly care. Customers that reserved the systems at EB for instance would be pissed off that they could have just bought it at Best Buy a week before their pre-order comes in. This makes them less likely to reserve items at EB in the future, which makes EB potentially lose money on future games and systems.

Must... not.. agree... with.... PAD....

This is completly retarded on MS's part if this is true. Might as well hand the crown over to Sony if that is in fact the case.

I might get one if $400 will be enough to pay it off :err:

It's only a SKU, BB has no Xbox 360's. Any employee can look through the computer and print up a sku for price verify.

I have heard that BB is going to be the Xbox 360 headquarters. Basically, if you don't have it reserved, they are the place you want to be because they are supposed to get the most systems. This was mentioned to me from a reliable source that I worked with for 1.5 years. He really never lied to me and I have no reason not to believe him either. He has several friends that work at BB as well, so this very well may be true. But as everyone else has said, don't get your hopes up until there is an official confirmation.

I'm sure you could pay someone there to lie to you. They might even do it for free if you ask nicely.

On another note, I'm hearing 4 days early from multiple Best Buy employees, which puts it on Friday, Nov 18th.
