My laptop recently just broke, and Im looking for a new one that can run programs such as maya,3ds max, photoshop, etc. pretty well since im going for game design.

http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/132902/originURLEncoded/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.circuitcity.com%252Frpsm%25 2FcatOid%252F-12963%252FN%252F20012961%252B20012963%252B31296300 1%252Flink%252Fref%252Frpem%252Fccd%252Fcategoryli st.do/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs

I found this one which seems pretty nice. Im trying to go for less then $1000 right now. my old laptop had 1gb ram which I think I can swap into this one. Let me know what you guys think.

If you really want to do 3D design, get something with a dedicated video card.

That system has a video card off of the system board, and it has very weak 3D rendering capabilities.

the power adapter outlet on the back of the computer where you would plug in the AC adapter in busted from the main board and is basically floating around in my computer. I asked on the dell forums how much it would be to send it in and they said around $700. So I said screw it, might as well buy a new one.

What about the HP zd8000 Series. It's $1199 (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?series_name=zd8000_series&catLevel=2&category=notebooks/hp_pavilion&storeName=computer_store). (I know it's just a BIT over your $1000 mark), but look at these specs:

If on the go use is a concern, be wary of those pentium 4 models. I have one with similar specs and tr totally rocks except for the battery life. Going 90 mins unplugged from AC is a minor miracle.

Edit: Mine is this one for reference

check out dell if you're on a budget. The 9300 is the one you want to look at if you want a high res screen.

I know dell has a bad name among some people but I've always had a good experience with them. I've ordered 5 desktops and 1 laptop over the past few years and never had a problem with any of them.

And if you're ever in need for a coupon, check out gotapex. I got 10% off base price, 30% off upgrades, and 35% off overall price on my laptop from there.

I dont think I want a Dell this time, not after the shitty work on the AC outlet.

My search is over, I bought an HP vu 6270 at circuit city for $1000 after a $200 mail in rebate. It has 1 gb of ram,100 gb hard drive, ATI 128 dedicated graphic card. ATI 64 Athlon 2.2 ghz processer. Its perfect. Its $200 more on the website so I got a good deal http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/134806/originURLEncoded/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.circuitcity.com%252Fccd%252 Fcategorylist.do%253Fcmpstr%253D%2526bMore%253D%25 26N%253D20012961%2B20012963%2526No%253D20%2526catO id%253D-12963%2526PAGE_ACTION%253D%2526c%253D1/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#tabs Thanks everyone for your help.
