as a person who played FFXI for a little less than a year I can say it's no blessing. That game sucks the life out of you like MMORPG fever. I am happy I quit

But it's one of the titles I'm really looking forward to on the 360, since I don't own a PS2 and don't like playing MMORPGs on the PC. MMORPGs are perfect for couch potatoes!
So count me as one of the jealous ones...

I would seriously recommend against it. It is a major timesuck. I think I reached like lvl 66 (out of 75) and realized that after college I just wouldnt have the free time to support it. Plus it is incredibly repetitive and getting items missions requires much waiting. It's just not cool. The main positives with the game was basicaly since it is an MMORPG it is immersive and conversing with the JP people was pretty cool. But besides that yeah =).
Nobody can really stop you from trying it though haha, but yeah up to you but those are just my 2 cents.

I'll probably wait for a more accessible MMORPG to come along...as FFXI is somewhat archaic by now, I imagine.

The only reason they are doing this is because Microsoft is trying to whore themselves out to Japan. Hell, they gave the japanese a $50 pricecut.
I have FFXI for both PS2 & PC. Honestly, i got tired of this game really quickly. Ill wait for the Marvel MMORPG. *prays for Blizzard to come out with WOW 360*

*prays they have their own server*
Honestly, the WoW crowd is already pretty bad at times, I don't want a bunch of Live kids in my game as well.

I have to disagree, the game was very fun. If I had the money and time, I'd still be playing it. The music was great, the battle system was good (though it could get monotinous at times), but it was enjoyable.

when ffxi came out on pc i racked up about 180 hours in less than 3 weeks and was at like level 28 and had over 100k gil. I sold all the money on ebay and then stopped playing, it was crazy. I managed to play that much DURING SCHOOL, i dont know how i did it.

Dude, MMO games are not good, stay away from them at all costs.
If you must game online, play an action game, like Counter-Strike.
MMO games will destroy your life.
I played one once, I played for about 8 hours and realized how much time it would take and I immediately stopped and have been MMO free and preaching this healthy lifestyle wherever I go.

$50 pricecut due to the fact of Japan's diffrent tax system from what I read.

Plus, I think they won't get all the little extras that we get with the Premium pack. I could be wrong though...

holy shit.....and I thought 80 hours in 3 weeks with dead or alive online was bad
How much did you sell the gil for?

Well that's opinion based and some people did find it fun. But you cannot deny it is a huge time suck to get anywhere in that game.
porting over WoW to any console will mean pretty nice boost in sales. I mean the game has singlehandedly revived a "Dying PC Market" for video games. I can only imagine the console sucees the 360 could have with that.
Personally in my life i've quit MMORPGs all together. While they provide that immersive feel, it comes at a cost of time. And as cost goes, it doesnt really matter since when you're playing MMORPGs you tend to go out less and save money that way heh.
I'm not sure if Characters are worth any money anymore but I sold my lvl 66 Black Mage with around 3 million gil worth of stuff and 1 million gil on hand for about $180. The Part that scared me whne I finally quit was I had logged about 110 playDAYS. Of course some of that was Idle but a good portion of that was spent actually playing. Scary if you ask me.

Most MMO's are timesucks, but you aren't really supposed to go all that far by yourself. Having friends to go lvl up and travel with is really fun so you can talk and have fun while you are lvling up. Being apart of the CAG linkshell was pretty cool to always have a bunch of friends to talk to even when you're not with them in a party. I just don't really have the time to put into an MMO anymore, but I'd loved to play FFXI again if I had the chance. I can't really speak about WoW since I've never been interested, but it would probably get console gamers who never got to play the PC version into the game.

Technically according to people WoW is not as much of a time suck for advancing. It is more of a timesuck in that people create more multiple characters. Most gamers arent looking forward to waiting 1 hours for a party at lvl 50 or killing lichs for 4 hours . I mean even Everquest 2 (tried it for a couple of months) progressed faster than FFXI. FFXI has practically no soloability (except beastmaster class) which is insanely repetitive and boring. Maybe it was the Job I played but at lvl 66 partying got insanely boring as well. it was just clicking a series of macros over and over and hoping your party didnt fuck up and die.
