http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/9503/Developers-Migrating-from-PS3-to-Xbox-360-Development/

Basically, developers are balking at an initial outlay of $17.6 million to develop for PS3, not including development costs for the game itself. I don't think this is going to be a huge deal, but it does give MS an opportunity to court some of the smaller developers.

The article this links to at PS3Focus has much more information than the TeamXbox summary, I would read that, too.

Granted, that's a truckload of cash to develop for the system, but wasn't the same thing said originally about the PS2?

For companies like Nippon Ichi, Atlus, Treasure etc this is a boatload of money.

Could this mean? Dare I dream?

Oh c'mon, who is this article kidding.

Atlus is releasing Magna Carta 2 for 360, Treasure is making a shooter for 360, and Nippon Ichi is seriously considering 360.

Well I did here something about most cross-platforming titles getting the 360 treatment first before porting, like PS2 this generation.

NIS is working on the PS3, with the former PSP game Makai Wars or whatever it was called.

I know they're working on PS3, but not necessarily exclusively.

Actually this was debunked. The rumor that NIS was bringing Makai Wars to the PS3 started at the TGS, where NIS didnt have a booth. The head guy at Etoychest.org, a game media/journalism site, called NIS America and they said it was news to them. A subsequent call to Japan revealed that they are working on a PS3 game, but its not Makai Wars.

Ninja Edit: I dont see why NIS doesnt defect to someone thats not Sony. They shafted them with the PSP, and yet they come crawling back, like a beaten wife.

I think this argument has some merit as PS3 is going to be a bitch to program for. I just hope they don't use 360 as a stopgap to PS3 and release thier 'next gen' games that were in fact sloppy seconds from other current gen consoles ala Dreamcast with some shoddy PS1 ports.

Of course the easier to program for argument wont translate into devs moving to the Revolution.

Hmm, Gamespot doesn't seem to have the announcement article up anymore, so that may very well be true.

How did they get shafted on the PSP?

I suppose its not common knowledge, but a small group from the Penny Arcade forums, lead by the guy from Etoychest, who also is active there, did some snooping around. What they found was, Sony said to NIS, make it pretty or you cant make it. NIS said, we want to use the same low res sprites we've been using for 10 years. Sony said, well you cant make it. Also, in the back of the guide to Makai Kingdom, there is a Q&A section in which they ask about how Makai Kingdom came about. The answer was: We were actually in the middle of another game, but it was canceled for "adult reasons".

I find it interesting that the NIS America rep specifically omitted PS3 when he was talking about next gen platforms, but I took that as PS3 being a given.

This will be an interesting battle between the 360 and PS3... I used to think that MS didn't have a chance but after reading more and more about the PS3's complicated development, I'm leaning more towards the 360.

I mean, both Itakagi and Carmack have said that the PS3 was hard to develop for... and both of them are known for preferring to work with the best hardware available.

Its going to be interesting, I've heard alot of developers saying that the PS3 is hard to develop for and that its also alot more expensive to develop for. The cost alone could be whats driving most developers away. Heck it was cost that made Square say that they were going to be doing alot more multi-platform games. If its effect someone as big as square we can only imagine what its doing to the little guys.
