This has probably been covered in the past... but I found no topics specifically about cleaning ink off of old carts - anyone have any good suggestions or tips for getting writing/ink off of old carts? Especially one that will not mess up the plastic on the cart? (I tried this stuff called "oops" that was supposed to be safe on plastics, but it chewed a dent out of an old nes game.......)

Rubbing Alcohol works good as well.

That is the best (imho) to use. Works wonders on a yellow snes.

Yes, just dont use too much. Put a little on a cotton ball and rub it. I've used it before to take off permanent marker.

I find that my carts stink after using nail polish remover.
I stick to Rubbing Alcohol and Goo Gone....usually if one doesn't fix something, the other will.

Really? Did it completely take the yellow off, and not damage anything? Good as new (in terms of color)?
How long did you soak it for?

Make sure the nail polish remover has no acetone in it. I just made that mistake and it started eating trough the plastic. The result is a still yellow and smoother SNES. I tried regular nail polish without acetone by rubbing the SNES with it and it took a bit of the yellow off. I might try soaking if I can get the case off.

Thanks for the ideas - I was using rubbing alcohol, and it would usually get most of it off...... but the fingernail polish remover takes it completely off and FAST (never thought of that)! Although it does stink pretty bad! Sometimes I'll use the magic eraser thingy, but it can scuff up the carts a little bit -
EDIT: - note - be careful with the fingernail polish remover - it worked great on n64 games, but it turned the plastic on an old nes game I tried it on to an odd whiteish color?

regular pencil erasers actually do a decent job of getting the majority of markers off

Nail Polish remover burns the plastic, use goo gone and a cloth and watch your favorite show lol...

Did it change the consistancy of the plasitic, or just the color? Might have to try this on old yellowed systems...
