Can anyone reccomend a cheap set of Hex wrenches that will open the Xbox up? I'm finally going to replace the DVD drive in it, but I don't know where to start.

I got mine at Sears, but any hardware or automotive store should carry them. I found a 2nd set at the dollar store, actually.

Dollar store, that's a good idea. Thanks!

I feel stupid now.

You'll need torx screwdrivers or a torx wrench set for the job.

Allen Wrench Torx set. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00065DPDS/002-1181887-8988817?v=glance)

They probably have one of these at a Radio Shack that have nicer grips, and probably for about $5 cheaper. But, I'd recommend hitting up a hardware store first.

Just ask for a torx set (your prefrence of wrench or screwdriver) and make sure it includes sizes T10-T20.

they arn't hex wrenches. They are torx screw drivers. You need a 20 and a 10

here's a guide if you need it.

Stupid proprietary crap. I'll check out my Home Depot. Thanks for the input.
As a sidenote, has anyone done this before? I'm assuming it's relatively easy(I always terrify myself when I open expensive electronics).

It's easy actually. I was afraid at first thinking that I would mess something up, but then I thought about it and said the hell with it and dug in. It's basically a PC so you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure you have the right DVD drive to replace the one you have because the xbox DVD drive hooks up differently from the power supply than a PC(different connecter). What you are doing is easy compared to the other things you can do with an xbox.

I got a screwdriver set on ebay with the needed bits for about $15 shipped. The bits and screws arent exactly propriatary, they are standard 'security' screws that many products use. With the set I got on Ebay, I can open up any console I have, and any game cartidge too.

I used to use the torx to open my xbox up but I got lazy when I changed out my Thompson drive. If you get a standard screwdriver that is the right length and width it fits between the torx "teeth" and works just fine.
